THE OFFICIAL HALO FEEDBACK THREAD

I’m speaking for all the Italian Halo fans community (and I’m sorry in advance for any Written English errors), and I followed and commented Halos development since Halo 2 till now.
For the next saga of Halo, starting from Halo 4, me and most of the fans I represent would like to see:

-The return of the special relationship between Master Chief and Cortana, and a more emotional (and speaking) Master Chief. In Halo 3 he has lost a lot of “humanity” and seemed like a robot-that-kill’d-everything, a lot more then before. In Halo CE and Halo 2 he spoke a lot more, he had a lot more class and humor, especially with the Cortana’s word tricks. I would like him to return like that, even if war has changed both;

-A better told story and cinematics. Halo CE and Halo 2 were just amazing on how they told their story (even if I didn’t like playing the Arbiter and splitting the story arch in two), but Halo 3 missed something “deep” into it, and it feel like a bit rushed to the end. I would like to see a more cinematic and intriguing depth, like the books/novels, or movies. So: more cinematics, better dialogue between characters, and more twists and “climatic” moments well told;

-A more “Mature” look and feel of the Universe: many people are literally grown up since they started playing with Halo CE, from teenagers to Men. But even for the others I think it would be great to give Halo Universe a more mature color grading, realistic look and feel. Not only with the colors (less colorful, more “true”), but with a mature and deep world characterization, sounds, enemies, and every single aspect. I read Cryptum recently, and I imagined an Halo game with that feeling and depth, and, god, it would be so, so great if it will be like that;

-A more “optimized” and classier gameplay: with less confusing Armor Abilities for example. Giving the player all the same abilities for everyone like the previous game did, but leaving only abilities like Sprinting or Assassinate enemies, and that’s all. Invincible armors, invisibility, jetpacks…they were ok, but Halo must be the “perfect gameplay” and the perfect mix between: depth and easy controls. And have a lot of fun without thinking too much which “Perk” or “Class” must be chosen, and which is better or not;

-Big, open, explorable Environment: sandbox gameplay, sandbox exploration. Primary and secondary objectives. What Halo CE did in 2001, but a lot more complex and big at the end of 2012. Possibility to backtrack a level, explore and, in the same time, having action packed encounters like Halo 3/Reach. But not something like ODST. Only a big city or a big map, and that’s all. All levels must be unique, and different…but keeping the exploration and sandbox structure;

-Dedicated Servers for Multiplayer: while the Reach Matchmaking is the best P2P system ever made, it’s time to use official Dedicated Servers for every region (USA/Europe/Asia etc), for instant games search, lagless experience and to eliminate host power once and for all

That’s it for me.
Hope you guys from 343 will read this, and consider at least a bit of it.

Thank You!

Halo… what an amazing universe. Well here is my feedback:

Halo Reach:

  • I really hope bloom will be taken out in atleast some playlists with the TU.
  • My view on AA’s are the same as they are with bloom, except multiplied by ten fold.
  • I do not want anymore forge maps, I do not enjoy looking over the edge of the map and seeing the same island. Or the constant gray of the map itself. This probably sounds like a petty problem but it gets very old.

Halo Anniversary:

  • You already are doing all the right things.
  • Your one firefight map should be based on the library and of course with the flood.

Halo 4:

  • I cannot live without my BR much longer, so it would be great if I could have it back in my hands.
  • No AA’s or bloom, they just doesn’t belong.
  • Other than that I’m looking foward to what you all have planned for this game.

Agreed too.

Hello,
I was told you watch this thread more than any other so here goes:

Please Please Please Don’t have armour abilities in Halo 4. I cannot stand them. Halo 1 2 and 3 were all following a similar formula and they all were very successful.

In order to appease all sides you can have playlists with armour abilities and playlists without them.

BUT if you have to decide on one type of settings than PLEASE, NO ARMOUR ABILITIES and NO BLOOM.

Thank you for following us on the forums.

Good Luck with the franchise.

Empire

O by the way, I CANNOT STAND sprint either. That still counts as an armour ability.

Anywho, thank you for listening to my venting. haha

No. AA’s made the game more interesting. So did bloom. Remember, most of the community enjoys Reach and they’re playing it right now while the others that don’t like it (5% or less of community) come here.

I agree completely.

I would politely like to know where you got those stats from. 5%? There are tons of people who left. The first day had tons of people online.

My current complaints with Reach:
-Bloom is completely random and should be fixed for precision weapons.
-Armor lock is absolutely gamebreaking and annoying.
-AAs, particularly dropshield, jetpack, and armor lock, do not belong in the arena style gameplay Halo has. Jetpack and Evade should be used as pick ups and sprint can work with a few tweaks, but otherwise remove all of them. Active Camo should be a powerup.
-The no-bleed-through melee system encourages players to double melee and discourages others not to shoot. This breaks the balance of the guns, grenades, and melee triangle.
-Grenades are way too overpowered and they are too bouncy.
-Sword Block’s interval between whether they register the clashing sword and melee is waaaaaaay too long.
-the map selection is horrible.
My proposed fixes:
-Take bloom out of all precision weapons, or fix it so that shots will go to the very edge of the reticle when spamming. Also, As the reticle expands bullet magnetism should grow visibly weaker. When it is fully bloomed, the bullet magnetism will have a negative effect on the shot’s trajectory, meaning that the bullets will never be able to hit the player’s hitboxes when the reticle is fully bloomed.
-Take armor lock out matchmaking entirely.
-Sprint can be a default mechanic if they added a melee recovery interval in between sprinting. Jetpacks, evade, and active camo should be powerups in Halo 4, and remove the rest of the AAs.
-implement Halo 2’s melee system. Say a player has 110 hit points before he dies. Melees should be 45 hits points when standing still, and 55 hit points when lunging from extreme lunge distance. This makes it a 3 melee kill standing still and a 2 melee kill by lunging, which negates the AR melee rush people complained about in Halo 3. Return to the bleed-through melee.
-Nerf the grenades’ blast radius or make it less bouncy.
-players should have to melee at the exact time a sword wielder presses RT to block the energy sword.
-More symmetrical maps. They worked wonders for multiplayer in past games, and I had no clue to why Bungie would make most of the maps asymmetrical.

There are more than you think that do not play I believe because of the new gameplay of reach. I could be wrong but it seems halo dropped off. I don’t believe it all has to do with COD either. I agree with NO ARMOUR ABILITIES AND NO BLOOM.
That’s my opinion. There is no right answer but i would love to see Halo 4 with Halo 1 2 and 3 type gameplay.

P.S. In case I forgot, Please no AA’s and NO bloom, lol

  1. I just hate how underpowered the assault rifle is. Even at close range, a dmr will overpower an assault rifle. Because of this, the assault rifle is underused even though it’s one of Halo’s symbolic and iconic weapon.

Option 1. Make it so that it takes 18 bullets to kill an enemy, not 24.

This or…

Option 2. Decrease the reticle size on the AR, but keep the bloom effect proportional to the previous size.

Ex: if reticle/bloom= 6cm/8cm, then smaller reticle/bloom = 3cm/4cm

Which ever option you choose, it will become useful and not be overpowered by a dmr at all ranges. This way, it will beat an dmr in close range. It will also balance out with it in mid-range. Then it would be beaten by it in long range. Currently, the dmr always beats the assault rifle unless the AR user is lucky because the dmr user doesn’t know how to aim well.

  1. I want to be able to use nightvision/flashlight in multi-player. It’s very useful when you’re in the caves.

  1. I want to be able to lower my weapon in match-making. I don’t see what harm lowering your weapon in mm would do. Or at least let us lower our weapons in custom games. This would let us have machinimas with 16 people better.

Oh and can you make it so that if we press Down on the D-pad, we’ll lower our weapon? I don’t like how we have to press a bunch of buttons just to do one action when we still have two free buttons on the controller to use: (Right on D-Pad, and Down on D-Pad)

CEA:

Needs firefight with the flood!

Reach:

  1. Credit cap needs to go. It’s absurd to tell us how much progress we can make per day. I’m an Inheritor and I’m still protesting the cap on principle. I’m playing. I want my credits. The banhammer can deal with the AFK boosters. There have been several mass resets. Let legit players earn what they can. If Firefight boosting is such a problem, change the system to pay more for performance/commendations and nothing for game completion.

  2. You need to give us a way to report the people. Not just the firefight AFKers, but the people who constantly grief in firefight. I’m tired of being expected to not quit matches when people want to shoot me in the face with a fuel rod the whole match and keep knocking me off my sniper perches.

  3. Please fix all the medals that are totally unattainable. For example, Unfrigginbelievable in Firefight matchmaking (not to mention Skyjacker and many others). We need an infinite firefight/score attack mode, preferably with Arcade Fight loadouts and infinite ammo. Lives could be limited, but the timer needs to go.

  4. Armor lock needs to go. It was dropped from team objective. Why is it still in objective matches in other playlists? Moreover, it’s stupid to have in multi-team at all.

Bungie went the wrong way with vehicular gameplay.

Vehicles are superior to infantry, so they should be able to dominate them.
But currently, there are a million and one ways for foot-soldiers to effectively counter vehicles. You’ve got:
-Rockets
-Plasma Launcher
-Laser
-Grenade Launcher
-Sniper
-DMR
-Plasma Grenades
-Armor Lock
-Plasma Pistol
-Frags

You get the point. Things got this way because Bungie made a mistake that 343 should be careful not to repeat: They listened to the community too much
Remember the Halo 3 beta trip mine? Remember how it did its job and killed anything that ran over it?
Remember how the frustrated victims of the trip mine complained about it?
Now look at the current trip mine in Halo 3. Not only can you walk over it and survive; it also now emits a loud, obnoxious beeping sound. It’s useless.

It’s awesome when a developer listens to the ideas and wishes of their fans, but you need to realize that the average gamer can’t just admit that he was beat by an enemy player; SOMETHING has to be completely broken in order for him to die.

That being said, I’m not here because I’m just mad after continuously hop into Warthogs and get killed by the enemy team. Quite the contrary: I’ve learned it’s smarter and more beneficial to avoid getting in Warthogs altogether. Also, I frequently kill the enemy team’s vehicles with ease. I’m not a victim here.

I’m just here because I find it disturbing how vehicular combat has almost completely deteriorated. On vehicle-based maps, it literally has been reduced to a multitude of short, ~30 second vehicle-runs separated by a few minutes of infantry on infantry combat.

Please consider this post when you are developing Halo 4’s multiplayer. Also, bs Angel should answer the pm I sent…

My main qualm with Reach is how much of a slower pace it is compared to the previous titles.
For example, in Halo 3 the average 5v5 slayer match would last 5 to 6 minutes given that no one quit out. In Halo: Reach, however, the average 5v5 slayer match is around 7 to 8 minutes. The pace of the game is much slower.

I believe this is a large reason, whether the people who stopped playing Halo realize it or not, why the community has shrunk from a sizable 300k community in Halo 3 to a respectable 150k in Halo: Reach. Games like Call of Duty and Battlefield are obviously faster paced than Halo, the fact that you have no shield and less health in those games pretty much guarantees it. People like this with short attention spans become easily bored with Halo and switch to faster paced (more popular) FPS titles like the ones mentioned above.

Now the one playlist that sticks out in my mind to speed up the pace of the game extremely well is the Team Classic playlist. First of all, the move speed is 120% and the jump height is increased. What this does is it enables people to get to where they want to be and kill people (or die) faster. Increasing the speed.

The second thing the Classic playlist does is it increases damage to 120% and makes the needle rifle the primary rifle over the DMR. This is significant because the damage is 120% and the needle rifle keeps the 5 shot kill of the DMR. Since the needle rifle has much less bloom than the DMR it eliminates a lot of the randomness in rifle duels and adds a lot more skill to the game. And since the needle bloom resets faster it leads to more kills faster.

And the final thing the Classic playlist does to increase the gameplay speed is to remove armor abilities completely. Now I’m not suggesting to remove Armor Abilities completely, but just some from the playlists such as Armor Lock, Camo (or atleast the Radar Jammer), and Jetpack (which is inherently unfair because people who play on Bumper Jumper, like myself, cannot use it). Keeping the ground movement oriented abilities like Sprint and Evade will increase the speed of the game in the same way the increase in move speed.

Basically the thing I’m trying to get at is to model the playlists after the Team Classic playlist (perhaps not as dramatically like the 120% but atleast 110%). I think an increase in the pacing paired with the new Title Update will really bring a lot of people back to Halo: Reach and the Halo series in general.

ALSO!
Invasion needs less invasion slayer/skirmish, and MOAR COMMUNITY INVASION MAPS.
2-3 maps get old!

Halo Feedback? That’s so general!

Environment
Seeing the short previews and such for Halo:CEA, I’m reminded that the whole Halo universe is beautiful, and it’s something that has kept me interested in the series since I first played CE. Shooters are all console gaming seems to be anymore, but Halo does it without sinking into the drab gritty worlds seen in many of the others. Halo has balanced this really well so far, and I think color is a very important part of Halo.

Characters
The AI characters (Cortana, 343, Superintendent, Serina, etc) have always been very interesting to me as well. Playing through the first part of Halo 3 I really missed Cortana’s voice. Even in ODST I loved the Superintendent/Vergil and how it manipulated things in the environment to communicate. I’d like to see AI characters flushed out a little bit more, and I’m sure we’ll see that in Halo 4 with Cortana.

Multiplayer
In multiplayer, I don’t want to get into all the debates as to BR/DMR, etc., because I see good in both, but I’d love Forge to be amped up just a little more in the next games. When we get community maps in matchmaking, it’d be nice to have a picture at the menu when we vote. I’m just now starting to remember which maps are which from Trident, Mt Lam Lam, Renegade, etc. In forge as well, when you go into editor mode as 343, you’re kinda floaty, which although nice and realistic can be annoying trying to put things together exactly. It’d also be great to forge with some Covenant or UNSC pieces.

Final Thoughts
But most of all, as I said before, the environments are what really keeps me coming back. There are many other games where I can grab a gun and shoot stuff in, but nothing quite like Halo. But loving the Halo universe doesn’t mean I just want the same thing over and over. Even recently, I remember first playing Spire and loving how vertical the level was, and loving jumping off the spire and jetpacking to ease my landing, thinking it was so cool to do that in Halo.

I would like if…

  1. There was a ranking system like the good old days for the core playlists.
  2. Bloom was removed in several classic playlists which happened to be ranked.
  3. The silly melee animations would stop altogether.
  4. Theater could be viewed with friends.
  5. Playlists were cleaned up with removal and addition of maps in like Living Dead and others.
  6. Time was not wasted in making large quantities of silly armor.
  7. Fall Damage could be controlled in settings.
  8. Living Dead added 1 or 2 more rounds for a complete experience.
  9. Armor Abilities were used in less abundance across the playlists.
  10. Armor lock needs to be less annoying if that is possible.
  11. Big Team Battle would not pair up randoms versus parties of 8.
  12. The current ranking emblem structure stayed but easier to achieve for those who have a life.
  13. Bleedthrough damage returned.
  14. Nerf grenades closer to a more classic feel being less strong.
  15. The health bar and health packs were removed just show your shield.
  16. Nerf sword block to a more classic feel.
  17. There was a option to control what appeared in your information feed to prevent *** medals and walls of text.
  18. Slightly faster kill times to prevent running away.
  19. Downloaded and recommended file share (crap) was a huge down grade from Halo3, (hey sort of like theater mode.)
  20. Mute bans needs to be turned off as MLG players are often muted for other reasons obviously.
  21. A racing playlist was added.
  22. Credits were taken away if one chooses to quit a match.
  23. The original Reach gameplay was altered with the Classic playlists to a certain degree.
  24. Assists counted like they did in Halo3 and were rewarded higher credit earnings.
  25. I know I missed some important things that need to be included as well so hopefully that is in there too.

I’m not going to pretend to know anything about how the game works and what works better or not. But we do need several things done to Halo Reach to improve it. Some are larger things that could take some work to do and others are relatively simple fixes.

Armour Lock. I hate to be one of the masses that bring this up but it needs to be changed. I actually dont mind it, especially in games like Invasion and BTB. But in smaller games like Rumble Pit it slows down gameplay and its pretty much an overall pain in the -Yoink-. I think it shouldnt be removed all together, just kept in larger games, like Invasion and BTB where vehiclular combat is common.

Invasion. I actually have two points to this, the first being maps. We need more Invasion maps. Currently we have three invasion maps and one of them never appears in the lineup. With any future maps, CEA for example, can we get at least one map that can play invasion. Also why not add some community maps? Ive seen some amazing forge maps that are designed for invasion that get no attention while I see subpar maps being added into Slayer left, right and centre. If you need community maps, set up a thread for posting them pick out the half decent ones and stick them in a playlist to see what the community thinks, similar to the community map playlist that Bungie made while their Forgetacular contest was running.

Second Invasion point is the actual gametype. I don’t speak for everyone but I cant be the only one that goes into the Invasion playlist to play Invasion. Not Invasion Slayer or Invasion Skirmish, Invasion. The only solution is to move the Invasion Slayer and Invasion Skirmish gametypes into a new playlist and leave Invasion in its own playlist. I know that you need a certain amount of players playing in each playlist to make it worth it, so if you were to do this you may want to add more maps as well.

To be honest thats all I can actually speak of, I dont want to start talking about things that I have no idea about like game mechanics etc.

Put Covenant and Covenant weapons in Halo 4, 5 and 6 even if it is only in MM and FF

Considering that the Arbiter will not be included as a main protagonist in Halo 4, I would love to see a couple of levels, maybe only 2 or 3, dedicated to the Arbiter and his Elites, and possibly their search for the Chief. I would be very disappointed if a character who was a main protagonist is 2 games in the trilogy was just ignored for 3 games. His story is not yet over 343!
