THE OFFICIAL HALO FEEDBACK THREAD

-The first and most important thing is an awesome capaign with a non-cannon breaking, breath-taking story line and the return of the Halo feel which I deeply missed in the past two Halo games.

  • Modes in the game:
  1. Campaign
  2. MatchMaking
  3. Custom Games
  4. Forge
  5. FireFight
  6. Theater
  7. I think a new game mode will be very welcome, but it shouldn’t be anything we can expect. Make it different.

-MatchMaking Improvements:

  1. AFK mode- when turned on, a player will take extra time to respawn, therefore he will not be an asset to the opposing team. When turned on, this option will exit to the Halo 4 menu after finishing the game. This will allow players to stop playing without having to quit and ruin every one’s connection.

  2. Map specific actions. Some maps should have unique things happening in them. For example, someone in the Bungie Forums suggested that a map will be made on the Forward Unto Dawn as it aproaches the forerunner world, with the time ending in the match as the ship enters the planet (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=63011418).

-FireFight Suggestions:
Make it more like ODST and less like Reach. In ODST it felt like a real survival mode, but in Reach it felt like an Arcade mode more than anything else.

-Forge Suggestions:
A thread was made in the Forge section here on Waypoint with some great suggestions (http://halo.xbox.com/forums/games/f/9/t/7540.aspx?PageIndex=1), here are some of my own-

1.Interactable- as a new item option. Whe this is turned on the item will fly around the map if you shoot it with rockets or splatters or grenades and stuff and you could spawn thing way up in the air (instead of them spawning where they hit the floor) that way you could make maps with meteor showers (falling rocks) and stuff like that. This could add a ton of much needed creativity in to forge.

  1. Despawn- this is very much needed, for creativity again.

  2. Multiple pallets: Each wall will have a forerunner look, a human look and more (possible convenant look, wilderness look with vines and stuff, ruins look and so on). There is no need for more than two, but it will be nice to have more variety in that point. 343 will bearly even have to change the model, just its textures, to give it a different look.

  3. Monitor Armory- 'Nuff said. Here you can right your name which will work like a tag (for example 343 Guilty Spark)- first select a number and then two words (adj. and verb or whatever). Then you should be able to change the color of the light you emanate, some basic shapes and even some armor effects. Just basic stuff but still awesome stuff.

  4. Monitors in Custom Games- most people don’t know this, but in H:R the monitor can shoot a focus rifle beam for a fraction of a second after changing from human to monitor (I have a screenshot of it somewhere). Why not make it a turn on turn off option for Custom Games? How about you give us an option to use these guys like we can use elites? Maybe even have a mode where its basically juggernaught, just the juggernaught is a monitor that can use his lasor. Maybe a mode where everyone is a monitor without shields and with lasors turned on. (Obviously you can’t spawn stuff in custom games though).

New Game Mode Idea-

War Mode

This is a mode that follows all the awesome battles in the Halo Universe, and lets you experience them from first person. This will have the highest possible amount of players per match (at least 8 vs. 8, hopefully much, MUCH more). War (maps) examples- Battle of Installation 04, The Ark, Battle of Harvest, Battle of New Mombassa, the Fall of Reach, Forerunner/Flood War and more…

This mode will pit two armies against each other. Most of the time, it will be UNSC vs. Covenant, but sometimes, it can be Covenant versus flood (as they take High Charity for instance) or humans vs. Flood or even Forerunners vs. Flood. It will detail the wars as they truely happened historically.

[This next idea should only be if the player cap will not be as high as, say 30 vs. 30.] In this mode, every player will be the leader of a squad of 3 AIs (marines, grunts, minor flood, sentinels and what not) and there will be some strategy to it. Like changing their actions and reactions by setting them on offensive and defensive modes.

In this game mode, there will be scoring, much like FireFight, except you get to buy things with the points (or credits) you get. For instance, you got a killing spree? Now you’ve got enough points to call reinforcements if your squad has died. Got a Killtacular? Now you got enough creds to get a drop pod with a sniper rifle in it. Got 10,000 points? Have a scorpion! Its unbalanced in a fun kind of way. Got 2,000 credits when you play as the covies, you get a hunter squad member. Everything will still be very linear and very Halo. And very unlike COD (which I hate by the way).

The battlefields will be HUGE. There will not be a lot of them, but each one will represent a different environment type and a different gameplay aspect. One will be a space battle above Reach, one will be a tight combat type of game in the forests of a Halo ring, one will be focused on vehicles and will be set in the streets of a city.

There’s more to my idea, but this is the basic thing.

I’d like to see you put a lot of work into new game modes for firefight. Something LIKE zombies from Call of Duty. There’s also some game modes for firefight that could be done in space, covenant ship vs. UNSC ship where you have to blow up the other ship from the inside and out just like the space levels from Star Wars battlfront 2. That would be epic!

Also put a lot of time into forge and put a like forge desert similar to forge world but no grey items. Good items like from halo 3. Put in stuff like the little cabins from boneyard.

I liked big maps like boneyard in multiplayer, ones where you can get away from the action once and a while.

Thanks and hope you read this!

EDIT: I would like to also see a ranking system similar to halo reach in halo 4 BUT… you only get credits for kills, sprees and other medals. So if I got 4 kills in a match I would earn 16cR and nothing else (If kills were 4cR per kill). A double kill maybe 2cR, triple kill 3cR ect. The value of credits would be brought up and challenges could then only dish out 100cR or more.

Another idea is having sprint as default armour ability. There might be a few other AA pickups on the map but say if it ways drop shield, it might only be able to be used 3 times and this could be changed in forge when you click the x button. You can enter how many times it can be used or if it can be used unlimited.

Ever since the addition of “2X Score Attack” (which at the time was fantastic btw!), Score Attack has otherwise been neglected ever since. Unfortunately, one of the most frustrating parts about Score Attack currently is that everything (both “challenge” varients and “fun” varients" are thrown into one playlist, and at times voting rounds can be absolutely ridiculous e.g.:

-Score Attack
-Skirmaggeddon
-Mythic Attack

  1. Something I never understood is WHY a voting round like this even appears as often as it does? Why do we need BOTH Score Attack and Mythic Attack appearing in the same round? Mythic Attack IS just Score Attack with Mythic Skull on. Where’s the variety?

  2. Secondly, like I said above; why is everything thrown into the one playlist? Given that it’s a “single player” playlist, it wouldn’t hurt to have a “Survival/Challenge” style playlist and a “fun/arcade” type playlist like how Firefight was split into “Firefight Limited” and “Firefight Arcade”.

  3. Something that a lot of people have wanted is more variety from the standard Score Attack match in itself. There’s so many possibilities, and it seems like such a waste to JUST have Score Attack available for those who want to be able to play solo to be limited to the exact same “formula” at least for the most part (i.e. ALL Grunt’s, ALL Jackal’s, ALL Brute’s, ALL Skirmishers (and yes there is differences in the boss wave at least).

  4. While I don’t think some of the varients are OVERLY difficult, I find them tedious because of the fact that unlike progressive actual Firefight matches we have a huge disadvantage which makes them more annoying than anything else:

Score Attack:
-ALWAYS Cloud Skull (slowing things down and inconjunction with the “full waves of enemies such as Skirmishers” makes it all the more annoying than fun)
-One player
-Overshield ONLY in 2X Score Attack(/Fiesta Attack) and Crashsite (i.e. not in Rocket Attack, Sniper Attack or FRG Attack)
-Limited Ammo
-Static enemy appearances (aside from Boss Waves and enemy specific varients)

Firefight Arcade:
-Radar active for 2 rounds
-Enemy attention focused on FOUR players
-Overshield in EVERY varient
-Unlimited Ammo
-Dynamic enemy appearances.

I find it odd that the playlist where you’re already at a disadvantage being alone; that even in the more relaxed 2X score attack etc - that those differences exist.

Suggestions/Requests

  1. A “Challenge/Survival” Score Attack playlist, and an “Arcade/fun style” Score Attack playlist (there should be no real problem with “splitting the population” and it just makes it easier for us to select the type of gameplay we want.

  2. More variety (e.g. Plasma Attack etc)

  3. Arcade Attack - People have requested on B.net forums (especially toward the end and with the appearance of Firefight Doubles) that a refined tweaked Arcadefight (or Arcade “Attack”) should appear. Yes have SOME of the same varients, but throw in longer games also. This would also mean less monotomy of enemy appearances.

  4. Remove Cloud Skull for SOME varients. IMO it makes more sense to have that on when you’ve got multiple players watching your back or on challenge varients. Otherwise it slows down action and even on 2X Score Attack you can be put on the slow defensive against still formidable Skirmishers and Spec-Op’s Elites).

  5. Unlimited Ammo (esp in the absence of “Arcade Attack”). We already have unlimited ammo for most weapons anyway, hell I don’t mind if “Weapon Drop’s” are disabled on 2X Score Attack (so people obviously don’t just use unlimited power weapons) to make it work, but at least on varient like that (aside from Crashsite) would be nice.

  6. Unlimited Ammo (and weapon pickup disabled) in Fiesta ATTACK. Otherwise it seems like a waste.

I wouldn’t expect everyone to necessarily agree but I feel at least some of that should be considered coz like i’ve said: Score Attack’s been neglected for far too long and it could be better.

First Person Driving toggle.

Hey guys, here’s a thread I posted over at Bungie awhile back, the thread got bashed by Reach lovers, although this forum looks much more mature with everyone being open minded and overall listening to criticism, also known as constructive feedback! =P

The first big step to make is to bring back to 1-50 skill, the algorithms and what not are already running in the background according to your weekly updates, it’s just not visible to the public eye in-game. It is almost as if Arena which resets every month was created in an attempt to counteract boosters and stop buying/selling of accounts, although this is just speculation. One should not forget the success of Halo 2 and 3, and the fact that what made those games so different to any other was the matchmaking system with worked flawlessly with skill ratings 1-50.

Thus the difficulty of implementing the skill system is not hard when all Bungie have to do is make it visible, nothing more. The skill rating does not need to appear in the service record of a player, nor should it unlocks ranks, armor etc. The skill rating should merely appear in e.g. Ranked Team Slayer for the simple purpose of setting a goal in the mind of the player.

Here’s an analogy (for Arena), a stockbroker sells and buys shares, the number one stockbroker makes $50,000 (50 skill) a month, Bob decides to go into the stockbroker business/playlist/job, and in his first month he earns $39,000, “good Job Bob”. The next month he earns $42,000, and the month after that he earns $43,000, slowly getting closer to $50,000. But wait there’s a catch to the stockbroker ‘playlist’. Every month the taxman takes all your money, and you start all over again, sounds great doesn’t it? Maybe you’ll do better this time round…or worse.

  • Hopefully I have made my point pretty clear as to why Arena is flawed, and I’m not going to bother going into detail about how the rating in Arena promotes betraying for the Sniper and going +20 Kill/Death Ratio due to the complete vice versa of teamwork, or how a player on the losing team can still get a good rating. I could start another analogy about a soccer team winning 1 - 0, with one player touching the ball only a couple times during the game, the player is still vital to the team blah blah blah…you get the idea.

Another major problem is the lack of maps, some of those firefight maps might as well be copied over into multiplayer. The game has on launch, 9 maps, and I just downloaded the Noble Map pack - 3 great maps. Lets all divide 9 by 3, now lets think for a second, OK moving on.

To summarize the above - The two biggest problems with Reach? Skill ratings of 1-50 missing and not enough maps, the latter a little hard to be instantly fixed.

(My wish list for the next map pack? Three…symmetrical…maps…medium…to…small…sized…ma ps…But this is unlikely, since from what I can see in the Noble Map Pack, map packs are there to make money, and in doing so you want the maps to cover as broad of an audience as possible, so more people will spend the Microsoft Points, fair enough, but damn don’t leave the hardcore halo community hanging with Forge World. Kudos to Anchor 9 btw.)

Now for a few other MINOR issues I have with the game:
(My own opinion, pretty open to scrutiny, and I repeat the word ‘minor’…)

Personally I don’t think armor abilities should even be in the game, but this is a matter of preference, some people will love em, some people will hate them, I don’t think they belong in a Halo game, innovation is good, and Bungie had the right idea and tried to push the game in the right direction, but lets face it, there all designed so you can survive, and what does that lead to? A slower pace game, more frustration for players and, drum roll, an imbalanced game. Armor abilities will never be removed from the game of course, but there is definitely the need for a few playlist to have them completely removed, including sprint.

Again personal opinion; I would like to see a return of the Battle Rifle, this will most likely never happen, but how hard would it be to replicate the Needle Rifle for example, change the model and skin of the gun and change the bullets and sounds. Abracadabra you have a BR. This in conjunction with the implementation of skills 1-50 would be very quick and easy on Bungie’s part.
-Balancing issues? No, it’s the needle rifle.
-Something against 1-50 skill? Then don’t play that playlist, go play something that’s not ranked? Play Arena, it’s slightly more competitive than “social playlist”, I mean “competitive playlist”, wait what? Haha, good one Bungie, I get it!

A few other minor things I don’t like such as how hard it is to get assist medals, halo is a team game, this alone separates it from many many games, and one in particular. Arena encouraging individual play, assist medals really hard to achieve, the players speed being slowed down to compensate and encourage the use of armor abilities such as sprint and the reduced jump height, which I’m assuming is to encourage the use of armor lock, invasion a new playlist having it’s very own maps when there are so little to choose from to begin with, and so forth.

Overall, believe it or not, I think Halo Reach is a ‘good game’. The fundamentals of halo are there, things just need to be tweaked and changed. Not so much fixed, but some fine tuning so to speak. Reach has a little over 60,000 online, a number I only saw a couple years after the release of Halo 3, reach has been out for a couple months. Numbers don’t lie. The game needs to undergo some form of change ASAP.

Leave something constructive
Cheers!

I think it would be a really good idea if the spartans could climb. It would go into a 3rd person camera view and you could climb kind of like in assassins creed. I still think that the Beiber shooter where you shoot cardboard pop ups of Justin beiber is a good idea. Well, actually not. Also, being able to switch loadouts with the d-pad! Like be in armor lock. then when it runs out you quickly switch to the evade loadout and roll away! That would be sweet! Also copying and pasting things in forge. Mass selecting of objects. spawning friendly and enemy AI and being able to forge firefight maps. That is a must.

Also space battles like in Starwars battlefront II. Have a covenant supercarrier with two corvettes against a halcyon class cruiser (Pillar of autumn) escorted by two Charon class frigates (Like amber clad and the savanna) then have respawn points inside the main ships and have a hanger in which there are pelicans, longswords and space hornets. and in the alien hanger there will be Phantoms, Seraphs and space banshees. Then you can fly into space and dogfight or you could take out the big ships by knocking out the engines, or their lifesupport, their comms, their navigational systems, their bridge. Then have each ship have a commander on their bridge that you can kill for a bunch of points. If they added that I predict it would shoot halo to the top FPS in no time and it would be even more epic if they did the following suggestions.

Red vs Blue firefight voices.
Flood Firefight.
Arbiter and Heretic armor for elites.
bring the old armor back too.
Flood Juggernaut!!!
Being able to pick up jackal shields with Energy swords.
Weather effects in forge (Snow, rain, lightning ect.)
more than one map like forgeworld.

343 Industries. Please consider my suggestions. A lot of these suggestions have made games famous just for these reasons. (Assassins creed got famous on the climbing and Starwars battlefront II got famous on the space battles.)

I felt that Halo: Reach lacked what the past Halo games had. Fun glitches.

Lets face it, Halo wasn’t about the graphics or the complexity when it comes to the campaign. It was about the fun glitches that let us go where we would never had come across if we were just following our current objective. Glitches that let us journey outside of the level into some wide open space, or let us achieve that short cut we would use to get across. The point I’m trying to make is that the reason we could replay the campaign in Halo 1-3 over and over again was because we would search for glitches and hidden objects to keep us entertained, it made it feel like a whole new experience when we would find a secret area outside of a level and it would get rid of that “boxed in” feeling we get when we do the same objective over and over again.

If you ever find a glitch that doesn’t tamper with other people’s experience, but makes yours even funner, I strongly suggest that you do not fix it and move on to the other glitches that are actually bad. However, don’t add too much glitches. Keep glitches limited, but still somewhat in abundance.

Also, you should spend a little more time with the campaign than the multiplayer because people get frustrated with multiplayer, so they want to go and kick back with some campaign to cool off for a bit. We can’t do that if the campaign isn’t fun, so make damn sure the campaign is incredibly fun before you jump to tend to the competitive players, ok?

Some Multiplayer Suggestions
-Get rid of armor lock (it recks the cannon a little bit and it is extremely frustrating. It also cannot be fixed by tweaking it a bit, so just kick it out altogether.)
-Keep armor customizations (it adds some “spice” to the gameplay. Do not add to campaign because it will reck cannon!)
-Add some weapon add-ons, such as a scope or lazer pointer or whatever (Don’t make it too complex, complexity isn’t what Halo is about.)
If I come up with more, I’ll edit this.

I want more love to the invasion and big team playlists. They need polishing. Also, somethng that would be fun as hell would be a flood firefight map. That and a new sand/snow forge world would be awesome.

I like where halo is heading and, you guys rock.

I want a fileshare in this forum like bungie have :frowning:
With likes and download and top 10 and and and ^^

But one thing I like on the 343 homepage that you take videos and pictures from us for updates or videos ^^

a german opinion,
cheers

My only request is that when you do nerf Armor Lock, which I know is inevitable and also want despite being a more than frequent user, please leave it still capable of being a viable choice for an AA.

If you plan on making more DLC for reach, please make more that are very forgable like Tempest or Forge World.

343, do you think you can make a covennent equivulent to the shotgun? My idea is the needle blaster, the ammo comes in a cylinder packed with 6-8 shells which are also packed with needles. The gun looks like a pipe and has the cylinder attached to the bottem along with the trigger. Do you think you can add this to the Reach TU or Halo 4 for whatever enemy is in that game.

If you at 343 read this, thank you.

P.S. could you bring back the ODST SMG I thought that SMG was the best, thanks.

For the love of all filmers please 343 let us put our weapons down, or make a option to have no weapons. Let there be a clan roster. Let the blood flow from our opponets bullet impelled corpse like for example halo 1 that was beautiful.

Bring out your zing to forge i am sure you have your ideas. Let there be bigger maps, more forgable maps, the option to change the skybox, doors that open by pressing a button.

When playing infection add a huge zing the infector should be a flood combat form, and when blood strikes the ground let a spore infest the body of thy fallen enemy.

Let the light be shined at halofest.

With love and hope,
-USF Deathstingr

Easter Eggs! Hidden bits and bobs (no pun intended) such as hidden rooms, vehicles, weapons, information, jokes etc. gives excellent replay value.

I second this^.

I love all the Halos, they all have their qurks that make them fun. But what I loved the most was the glitches in Halo 2. I know glitches arnt post to be a good thing. But it made the game fun. just a fruit of thought

Yeah, it never got old in Halo 2. Loved building hopping.

I really hate the fact that if I accidentally kill a civilian then my Spartan dies. This single aspect of the game makes me really dislike campaign. Whoever came up with that idea at Bungie should be sacked.

IKR? They always found a way to get right in front of you -_______________-
