THE OFFICIAL HALO FEEDBACK THREAD

One thing I forgot…
Im never one to choose Call of Duty over Halo… EVER.

But the one thing CoD has had on the Halo games for a while now is customizable weapons, and my sniper friend would throw a fit, if I didnt at least mention the possibility of customizable guns with attachments and such.

hellz no :stuck_out_tongue:

easily the worst halo game i played. campaign was lacking and mostly a farce (if you read the books you would feel the same). bloom was the second worst concept ever introduced. im playing as a super human combat killing machine. this is an uber unrealistic concept. dont try and add guns with preset inaccuracy in order to get a realistic feel. bloom is only beaten out by AAs. loadouts are for COD. halo has always been a game where everyone starts out equally and sheer gameplay determines the outcome of the match. reach will never be as good as the previous halos because nobody wants to play some crappy hybrid where you can drop a guys shields just to have him use evade down into cover as far as 50 meters away.

i understand that a game franchise must change and adapt to survive. but somehow the first 3 halos managed to do just fine while appealing to the heart and sould of the halo community: THE ORIGINAL PLAYERS.

all in all reach was decent. however, with a name that included “halo” i was severely dissapointed with ‘decent’.
my personal opinion: idk where bungie went wrong, maybe they got rid of the wrong people. but reach was a failure.

ps. i will defend to the grave my opinion that bungie stole the loadout concept from cod in order to appeal to a wider audience. i still feel betrayed.

Thats not entirely true. I mean, yes, if you build loadouts with all the rocket launchers or plasma launchers, and Armor Lock to go along with them, then yes, skill probably doesnt play a factor in that game. And yes, a lot of the default loadouts built by Bungie fit the profile of taking away skill. But why should a sniper have to spend 15 mins fighting with other ppl over the one sniper rifle on the map? Or why should someone who prefers covenant weapons have to get pinned down by no-lives with BRs for 15 mins before he can reach a needler or a plasma repeater? When you really experiment with creating your own game modes with your own loadouts, they often increase the amount of skill in a given game.

one very basic concept in Halo is that weapons are not really personal preference. You have to become good at using the precision weapon (pistol in CE, BR in H2 and H3, and DMR in Reach), and picking up better weapons, and timing their respawn rate is part of the game. ,

The only problem with that is that not every weapon can be classified as better than the precision weapon of the game. I dont consider a Plasma Repeater, or an AR, or a Needler better than the DMR. Theyre just meant to fit a different play style, so if you limit everyone in the game to a single primary weapon, youre really giving the upper hand to those who prefer the DMR, and making any other playstyles involving equally viable weapons irrelivent.

NO AA’s in the next halo please. I want old school halo 2 invis and os triangles strategically placed on maps. Also i think implementing sprint in the next halo as a default ability would be good UNLESS is Halo 4 and its following the chief. Hopefully if the MC’s story continues we see no AA’s because that would just mess up the Chiefs Story and you will have thousands of angry people on these forums. If you are adding to the Chiefs story dont change the old formula but DO go deeper into the story. let us get immersed into the universe of halo like CE did and the others have failed abit to do so.

I’ll try to keep it short and to the point without explaining everything in detail.

-No Armor Abiltites for the next Halo
-Keep up the work from the Defiant Map Packs and we’ll be good on maps
-No bloom on precision weapons-it just ruins competitive play, and makes the game more random
-Epic Campaign!

I truly love Halo but Reach has left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth. That being said I do enjoy it just not on the scale that I did before. I think if gameplay wise we get something like Halo 2 and 3, with the “design” of Halo 1 and ODST, we will have something special. I have faith in you 343i!

Loadouts/classes have been present since Counter Strike (earliest I can think of off the top of my head). Did I mention that the vast majority of CoD gametypes are copied fro mother games?

-Moved to another spot-

“Its Wednesday, Wednesdays are HALO night!” ` Sheldon Cooper

Ahh… The wonderful comedic moments that are “The Big Bang Theory.”

Unfortunately, Reach just doesn’t feel like Halo. Please, make the next game keeping in mind what made the first 3 really great and unique.

In the next Halo game, it would be great to see enhanced weapon damage customization settings. Currently, altering the damage percentage messes up the sandbox and is not useful when designing a competitive and/or balanced gametype. Enhancing weapon damage customizability would completely remove balance issues in the game. It would also make it easier for the developer to implement new playlists into Matchmaking that really change the pace of the game and appeal to larger audiences. It would allow players to change the damage of individual weapons. An example:

Specific Weapon Damage settings:
Assault Rifle: 50%

Battle Rifle: 115% (Reviving the Battle Rifle wouldn’t hurt either!)

DMR: 110%

Grenades:85%

etc.

If players are allowed to alter the damage of individual weapons by 5% increments, there would be no weapon balance problems, simply because they could be fixed straight away. Coupled with Forge and the current customization options, Halo would be able to function in any way that the player wants. Please consider this when making your next game. I doubt it would be easy, but I’m sure that it would be worth it!

Also, don’t limit the 5 percent increment editing to this, allow us to do it with everything else aswell (health, movement speed, jump height etc.)
Another thing to consider for the next Halo game is a revival of a Global Ranking System similar to the one in Halo 3.

This will initially sound ridiculous, but just think about it for a bit.

Try making the next Halo game a little more gory. It would give the “whoah, that’s awesome” factor (similar to Reach’s assassinations, but more consistent). It could potentially draw more appeal to Halo, as some people, especially the CoD audience, (I have no idea why they say this but they do…) classify it as a little kid’s game. This would reverse that (stupid) reputation and would also contribute to making Halo the pop culture again. Teenagers (a large part of the audience, I’m assuming) could talk about it at school without sounding like “nerds” or “geeks”, simply because it is gory, therefore letting it compete with the “coolness” of the modern day shooters (like CoD).

If possible, you could make it a toggle system, where you can turn gore on and off. This would make parents more willing to accept their kids owning the game.

I think Bungie were considering it at one point. There are some incomplete but violent animations where arms are cut and ripped off in a Vidoc advertising Halo 3 prior to it’s release.

I really hope that all of these ideas are being listened to!

> I really hope that all of these ideas are being listened to!

As I said in the first post, we’re listening. And thank you to everybody who’s shared their opinions thus far!

I hope if 343 makes any changes to anything that they are very, very clear as to what has changed and how it is improved. I like Bungie and will continue to like them as long as they make fun games. However, I think their tongue in cheek way of dealing with the community is starting to wear thin. I think "most’ forum goers are interested in the mechanics of the game. Please 343 respect your community by educating them throughly. Give us Power point, videos, diagrams, etc. The more educated we are as a community the more we will appreciate and enjoy your games.

okay 3 quick questions:

  1. will 343 be unveiling its next halo related project at e3 2011 or 2012?
  2. when can we get some new armor for halo reach?
  3. and when it comes time to say goodbye to halo what will become of 343 industries?

you dont have to answer these question fully but at least give one GOOD answer please.
thank you for your time and patience.

(Before everything, let me say I’m a French gamer, so I hope you’ll get what I want to say)

I don’t know why, but this thread is definitely underused.

I’ll mostly explain what I liked in each game (never read the books, and never watched any related stories, but I certainly will).

These are juste MY thoughts, and the community may have a different opinion about Halo and the games.

Halo CE :
I only played the campaign, but that was truly amazing, though the last levels are really repetitive,.
But the game had all sorts of nice stuff : exploring a mysterious planet, landing on an island, driving a tank on the snow, discovering the flood, leaving the Pillar of Autumn in a warthog…
One of my favourite moment in the game is the very end of the level “343 Guilty Spark” when you have to run in the forest whith lots of marines while the flood is attacking from everywhere. Truly epic and frightening.
I won’t forget the music… Just great.
Don’t have much to say for this game.

Halo 2 :
My personal favorite 'til now.
Again, almost never played the multiplayer, but I may have played the campaign a dozen times.
Following and playing two different characters gave to the game a great narrative aspect that I haven’t found in the other episodes. The story mode was not really repetitive, this time.
The last level, and others of course, had great sequences : fighting with Hunters and helping a scarab with a banshee were really great moments.
Maybe the flood was not introduced the way it should have been.

Halo 3 :
I played both campaign and multiplayer.

Campaign : this was still pure Halo, but it felt less inspired.
The beginning should have had some sort of recap.
The first levels were closed, and kind of repetitive (Crow’s Nest).
The campaign only started for me with Tsavo Highway and The Storm, and then of course with The Ark and The Covenant. These two levels were really the most epic ones I had ever played in Halo, even better than some levels in Reach or Halo CE. Huge environnments to drive the tank, fun and new hornet sequences, fights against scarabs (even if it was used a little too much in Halo 3) , having the chance to play WITH the Flood for one time…
The Warthog run was fun, but a really new gameplay-sequence would be better next time (and please don’t make some sort of firefight like in ODST to end the next game).

Multiplayer : it’s hard to talk about multiplayer, but I’d say that most of the maps were good and really differents from each other (you know, Reach and his grey forged maps…).
The little “powers” (don’t even know how to call them) didn’t really change the gameplay, though.
Forge was a great addition, but it only really showed his power with Foundry and Sandbox.

( Had to cut my post)

Halo Wars :
Yup, I will play it this summer.

Halo 3 : ODST :

Firefight : I will start with that, beacause that was the real addition.
Well, the biggest mistake was the fact that we couldn’t start matchmaking games, and back in time, I couldn’t play so much with friends.
Beside that, maps were great (even if we already saw them in the campaign) and fighting waves of cool ennemies, well that was fun. But I do think that, now, we shouldn’t have some sort of firefight sequence in campaign. For example, I found the end of the level The Package way too long, and that lasted actually in only one location. Except when the firefight is different, like in the space combat sequence… But we’ll get to it later.

Campaign : it was a short campaign, and the environnments weren’t really varied. I thought that it was mainly this modern streets.
But the game, during the night, felt really open, and It gave something new to Halo. Walking in the city, alone, by night felt new and refreshing. Even if that’s not what I really except from a halo game, this was still nice, but I personnally don’t want to play that again.
Again, great musics, alternating between epic ones and sad ones.

Halo : Reach :

Multiplayer : my biggest disappointment are the maps, first of all. Only grey, grey, and grey, and remakes that don’t fit with the new gameplay. Real maps should not be in the campaign. It needs to be distinct (you may tell me one disc is not enough, but I hate to play on places that I’ve already seen in campaign. Same goes for firefight, as I said.).
Forge is great, but the maps on the disc should have been mainly “real” maps. Forged maps should come later, with the community.
Then, AA. Well, I don’t think it fits in Halo. Sure, I love the jetpack and the sprint, even evade… But it’s truly impossible to make them balanced. And so, it ruins gameplay (Armor Lock, I’m looking at you.).
We have a bunch of new weapons to play with, and they are great, overall.
New Vehicles (I know that’s not just in multiplayer, but anyway…) are nice (falcon, revenant, sabre…) but the usual warthog is not really cool to drive in reach. It has weird physics.
And the Big team Battle, which I loved in halo 3, feels wrong, now. It’s either a pain to drive vehicles or a pain to be the infrantry, depending on the map I play.
About maps, pursue the work that was done by CA and you for the defiant Pack, because I love it. Won’t talk about bloom, because I’m not so disturb about it.
Though invasion was a great idae for a Halo, it really felt boring (2 maps, …), but that may not be the gametype itself that provoke it.

Campaign : the most varied campaign, yes. But I expected better than what we got.
I wanted huge environnments (well, okay, New Alexandria is huge, and gives new feelings, and is great, but i’m talking about epic stuff, and not that king of epic) with huge fights, not a cutscene that shows a great battle but then we are lead into a small section where we begin the level (Tip of the Spear).
Space Combat was outstanding, and this needs to come back for the next Halo. Maybe make it a little longer, or make a sequence that lets you go forward, through different locations (asteroids, etc.), and not just playing in one location, then cutscene, and then one new location.
The post-credit scene was a nice touch, but it can’t be done a second time in a new Halo.
I was also disappointed by the story, and the characters. I don’t know how to explain it in english, but I loved the story and the characters of Halo 2, so that may help to understand.

Firefight : matchmaking : great. Customisable settings : great.
I only have one reproach : like the multiplayer maps, I would like firefight maps to be really distinct (Unearthed). But I do get why it can’t be done (again, space on the disc).

Forge : well, this forge 2.0 is awesome, but the Forge World geometry doesn’t feel great to build on.
And of course, there is a lack of variety with the pieces, it’s mainly grey, grey, and grey again…
Besides that, I discover new gametypes every week, thanks to this, so it’s nice anyway.

Armory, theatre, sharing system… Good work, needs to be pushed deeper, though.

For me, the next Halo game should have that :

  • an epic campaign, playable online, with a variety in terms of both gameplay and locations, with a big focus on story.
Try to create sequences like the scarab sequence that was cut for Reach, and make new ennemies, we need it now.
  • a great multiplayer (matchmaking and customs), customisable, totally separated from the campaign and the firefight, with different maps that fit with different gamemodes.
  • a great firefight, customisable (more than what we can change in Reach ==> vehicles, etc…) , totally separated from the campaign and the multiplayer, with different maps.
  • a Forge that isn’t redundant.
  • Side stuff like Theatre mode, armory, nice menu, etc…

Well, I ask a lot.
But if Bungie didn’t spend months trying to create the hovercraft, which was cut in the end for real reasons, they could have created other nice stuff… You get what I mean, I think.

I have faith in you, 343i.
