THE OFFICIAL HALO FEEDBACK THREAD

343i needs to bring Halo back to greatness with Halo 4. Bringing Master Chief back was a good first step, but a lot of multiplayer changes need to be made, mostly just making it like Halo 2 and 3 were. Remove reticule bloom, bring back real ranked matches with visible trueskill (1-50), and remove aim acceleration.

Making these changes will bring back a ton of the players that abandoned Halo when Reach came out and crapped all over what made Halo great. These changes will help Halo reclaim the multiplayer crown from Call of Duty, and will help it reclaim its place as the best FPS franchise in gaming.

My thread with everything we want in Halo 4:
http://halo.xbox.com/forums/general/f/14/p/9664/78517.aspx#78517
Please have a look 343.

I love Halo to death. It is the only game I will ever really play. The series is great, and I dont understand why people complain so much about reach and ODST, they were great games only with a few minor set backs. I cant wait until the Halo: Anniversery comes out along with the old school maps for reach from Halo: Combat Evolved. Also cant wait for Halo 4, hopefuly you guys take it back to the original Halo style, and well please try to keep it true to halo, I would love to see that. I know a lot of people have been saying that they dont want to see Armor Abilitys, I would have to agree with this exept mabye keep the running, diving, and invisiblity(for elites only because they can go camo in the original games). I do have faith in you guys that you can make halo even better, but it is going to be difficult, your really gonna have to go big on Halo 4. Hopefuly some new stuff comes out soon for both games. Also I would like to suggest something for the site. Mabye have more forums, like you could possibly go by games, such as Halo Wars, Halo: Combat Evoloved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo: Anniversery and Halo 4 (so we could have a better forum to talk about it, also you could keep some of the other disscusions such as fiction for all Halo’s, Random halo stuff, and somthing like the classifieds, and opitmatch from bungie.net forums. I think this would be a better way to browse the forums, also please have it so we can view more than just reach stats, make is so we can view, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo Wars stats as well. Thank you for reading this. Also Mabye Change our username on this, I changed my gamertag, but it isnt showing up on this now. That is all I have to say good luck guys, I have faith in you and I’m sure many other people do too. Keep Halo Going Strong.

With Much Halo Love and Respect-

At first I was pro-AA but now I have seen the light. Keep it for games like infection or invasion though. Also I think loadouts should stay and me more customizable but still balanced so you can’t say you start with an advantage, choosing different starting weapons.(perhaps maybe you would want a balanced Dmr for long range but as a secondary a SMG for closer fights, or even a pistol.) Add powerups to maps and increase their variety like extra speed and jump height or more damage. Also I think I mentioned these before but I want to make sure,
Kill Streaks. Now before you go on saying “NO! HALO WILL BE LIKE COD!” Just want to say they would be a good replacement for AA’s while still being competetive. Instead of Airstrikes or turrets though you would get powerups. Being able to choose your kill streak per loadout. There would be 4 different killstreaks to choose from unless more are added. Camo, speed/jump, Overshield, and damage. There’s 3 tiers taking 5 kills for each tier. After you get a 5 kill streak you get the first tier gaining an ability for 30 Seconds(adjustable to change.) After 10 kills you get tier 2 Giving you that ability until you die. After 15 kills you get an enhanced version of that ability. As an example lets say you get permanent Overshield tier 2. When you get Tier 3 you will get a permenant overshield as well as 2x shield recharge until you die. Or lets say you get Camo tier 3, you jam others radars(but not yours or your teams) in addition to your camo. The other streaks would work in similar ways. Also bring back equipment and add more kinds. Like something you put on the floor and it puts a tag on every player that walks within its radius. Plus due to vehicles nerfed health make regenerator heal vehicles as well. Walking speed needs to be increased and bleed-through see a return. Nerf nades to do at MAX 3/4 of our shield but increase the fuse time by 1-2 seconds and keep the radius then MAYBE increase the max number of nades we can hold. Have variety with the weapons. Bloom needs to be kept but revised. If they make the reticule expand faster and reset faster it will make pacers win MUCH more often. Also what about stocking powerups? As in you have many at once or if you get the same one again it adds on to your time not reseting it.

Copy and pasted from another thread, because I can’t stress enough to 343 how much this is important to me, for Halo 4:

main hope for Halo 4 would be much improved storytelling. I do feel 343 will provide us with this, but I just feel the need to place it here for them to see. Let them know that it’s of great importance. John’s diving into the unknown once more, so I would like to see that sense of wonder, and mystery, which was present in Combat Evolved. Bungie stepped up, with ODST; but then unfortunately took backward steps with Reach. They should also increase the amount of in-game story-telling, too. Having the story pan out in-game doesn’t take away player control, and so gives them more time to tell a story whilst we still play. It would be much like Uncharted, when Nate and Sully have discussions in real-time.

I’m also praying for fleshed out characters. People say shooters can’t really do this, but they can. It depends on the effort the developer is willing to put into the Campaign. As I mentioned, ODST was on the right track; and other popular franchises such as Half-Life places emphasis on making the player connect with its characters. Gears of War has the player interacting and bonding with a select group of characters, too, who you learn more and more about as you progress through the game. It doesn’t have to be RPG level character development, but I don’t want bare bones, basic, characters that I can’t care about. Halo has a truly fascinating universe, and the games need to do it justice; and one of the ways that they do this is through the way they tell the story. Reach disappointed me, after we were told we’d get a much more human story. As I said above, though, I’m hopeful purely because 343’s contribution to the series has been about telling stories and fleshing out the universe, before they took up the position of making the games; and that will not change. I feel they’ll translate this to the game experiences. Would be cool if they introduced characters from the novels, and made them just as endearing.

Another thing is the animation; I think that needs to improve. Make it less stiff, and add more expression. Tbf, they did step it up in Reach and it was better than the trilogy, before it. Make enemies more vicious, though. I was disappointed with the entrance of the Elites, in Reach, when the Zealots attacked Noble Team. The Elite that leaps out with the sword moved a bit too slow, for me. I don’t think the animators truly showed their ferocity.

In terms of the MP aspects, I would love themed Forge worlds. Covenant, Forerunner, Human, and Flood. A Custom games finder would be cool, and I like the idea of ranks being brought back; but still keep the credits to buy Armour and stuff. Perhaps they could allow for the ability to unlock characters from the books for competitive multiplayer, regardless if they make the game or not. The ability to play as Kelly, Fred, Linda, Sam, etc, would be brilliant. In Firefight they could expand the roster, and add humans like Jacob Keyes, Lord Hood, Johnson, Miranda, ODST crew, Sgt. Forge, Mendez; and so forth. Maybe even dig into Graphic Novels, and have those characters unlockable.

343 are you really reading all of these. If so why haven’t you hired me on already? I know once you read my ideas you would instantly be sold on what I’ve got going on in this -Yoink!- head of mine.

Farcy editor with forge in halo 4 with ai

that is all

Hi 343i, its me again

I hope you do not forget my idea about the Locuste but this
time, i’m not here to ask you something but to give you some
ideas about some little details you should keep in the next Halo.

There is nothing about what you should errace or put away,
just some details you have to keep, intergrate or reinstate.
But this is just some ideas then I find great.

TO KEEP:

-The cartridges goes out from the guns while shooting

-The differing HUD between the speices (ex: Élite and Spartan)

-The horn on humans vehicles

-The bullets impactes on walls or structures

-The differing ability between the speices (jumping height, shield color and resistance, runing faster, etc)

-The health bare

-The high personalisation of the armor (like Reach)

-The differing language between the races

-The blood (I meen, the same level of blood, not too gore)

-Trading weapons with the AI (in campagne or firefight)

-The assassinations

-The physic on the gunners when the vehicle is in mouvement (like on the Warthog)

-The position of secondary weapons on the buddy (pistol on the leg or rifle on the back)

-The possibility to play 4 players in split screen or on local (like play 4 players on every xbox in a LAN)

-A side a little realistic as in Reach

-The armor ability

TO REINSTATE:

-The SMG

-The little equipements to use one time (like, protections bubble in Halo 3, etc)

-Some heavy and geant vehicles as the Elephant of Halo 3 (to make the game a little bit more… Epic)

TO ADD:

-The breakable windows as in COD or Crysis

-Some destructible structures (some panel or huts)

-The armor customisation of the other playable speices (At least as much as in Halo 3)

-The walking effect in the water

-The bullets impact on vehicules (as in GTA IV) this shall be so great!

-The bullets impact on the armors/corps and on the visors. this shall be so good too!

Just imagine to put a headshot to a guy and come to his buddy to see the hole in his helmet!

So, that it, is my idea.
Its hard for me to not show all my ideas so I just send you my best.

For me and a lot of players, this little detail make an Halo differant to eny games.
and I hope you found great some ideas I wrote for you.

In hope you will keep some of this ideas, to make the next Halo, still closer to the prfection = )

Love 343i

Some thoughts:

We need more than 9 missions
I know the length of the campaign depends on the story but Halo 2 had a lengthy campaign and IMO the best storytelling in the series.

Health bar creates issues
Separating health from shields creates weird scenarios. Grenades “seem” stronger sometimes but it’s because of the change of how much damage can kill you. Halo is all about being at equal terms with everyone on the map and using skill to best others. When your health is down, you are no longer on an even level as others. I suggest have it recharge also, just much slower.

Firefight needs to emphasize "survival"
In Reach, Firefight has been reduced to a race to see how many Covies can one person kill before someone else, or how many points can one get. I’m starting to think that all the additions made with Reach weren’t for the better. With infinite ammo cache’s and jet-packing to high points, the skill and survival instinct is gone from ODST.

Streamline the gameplay so that we use our tools, whether it be VISR or Armor Abilities, etc. so that we use them for certain circumstances to SURVIVE.

Artificial Intelligence
It baffles me that after 10 years of Halo, the friendly AI is still incredibly incompetent! I understand that we have to take control and not let the AI do all the work but they are just bumbling and useless weapon holders. In Reach, for example, when you are on the Corvette in Long Night, you may or may not have marines with you but when the cutscene starts, there are none and Jorge has to detonate the bomb himself. What are they there for then? It would be cool if they actually took the role of the weapon they held. Example, Emile has a shotgun so he should be in the front of the battlefield, etc. Also, a way to change this would be in-game commands. Use the d-pad to tell them to move up, regroup etc.

Hope you read this 343, thanks!

For the love of Halo increase that frame rate. And Bigger team matchmaking. I’m talking at least 16 on 16. Huge maps with drivable dropships, Scarabs, vultures ext. I want my xbox to blow up. I don’t care if its 4 disks. I would get up off the couch every ten minutes and pop a disk in for that experience.

So being the Halo fanatic I am I decided to compile a list of things that I feel could benefit Halo multiplayer in the future. Some of these ideas are pretty far-fetched but would greatly benefit the game.

1. Multi-target aiming capabilities- I always thought it would be really cool if you could fire at two enemies at once if they were within range of each other. This is how I envisioned it: By holding down lb or L you would enter an enhanced vision of "focus fire". With this enhanced vision there would be two reticules instead of one and they would move with each other as you moved your aim. By lining up your reticules on two targets close to each other you could do damage to both of them at once. Releasing L would move you back into normal vision. This feature would be on all weapons except power weapons.Maybe if its too powerful the damage would be halfed but allow you to shoot two enemies at once.
Yes that idea is pretty far-fetched but I always thought that would a cool feature in a FPS. Even a weapon that had dual-target capabilities would be pretty awesome. Maybe there could be a weapon with two reticules that would be fired like a rifle, but only do half as much damage as say a BR on each target. A multi-target weapon or feature would be AMAZING and add so much depth.

2. Secondary weapon functions- I was thinking of ways weapons in Halo could become more dynamic and awesome and I came up with this. Each weapon would have still have their primary function, but would also have a second more powerful but more difficult capability. This would fit into the idea of making timing and high risk vs high reward more important in Halo. This is how I envision it:

Needler- Secondary function Charged needles- By firing the needler in a semi-automatic fashion it would begin to shake with power making the reticule shake slightly doubling the damage of each needle firing semi-automatic much like the needler rifle is now. Each charged needle would take double the resources of a regular needler shot and be harder to land. A kill would result if you hit all single projectile needles but the clip would be smaller making it so if you missed more then 2 super charged needles you would need to reload or something close to that.

Plasma rifle- Secondary weapon function Plasma scorch- Shooting the ground would result in a small fire to burn creating a small obstacle for a period of time that would be like a slow DOT if enemies stepped into it. This would add another level of strategy to using the weapon. Or you could make it like the AR where it would be throttled but overheat if fired to quickly at once fitiing in with the high risk high reward mentality of Halo 4.

Assault rifle- Secondary weapon function Throttled fire- The longer you hold down R the more damage you would do but with increasing/or heavy recoil and maybe even a smaller reticule. Burst firing it would result in accurate and more consistent damage, but if you are up close you would have to control the HEAVY recoil in order to get a quicker kill holding down R. Getting the fastest possible kill with it would be pretty hard.

Plasma pistol- Secondary weapon function- Stun/EMP- when fired semi-automatically it would have a stun of 0.22 per hit making it a great change of pace weapon similar to how it was in HCE. Catch an enemy off guard and keep consistent fire on him and you would have a big avantage in CQB.

Pistol/Br/DMR- Secondary weapon function- __Focus fire-__when aiming down sights the reticule will get smaller but will result in more range. If the Br is to be the weapon it would switch to a single-shot burst(similar to how the H2 Br tech demo BR was) when aiming down sights and reward good marksmen without slowing/randomizing gameplay like a bloom mechanic might.

  1. E__nhanced strafing capabilties-__ Dont know why this hasnt been done yet. The left movement stick would be for the normal strafe while the lb and rb bumpers would be for more quicker and short horizonal movements. This would enhance the 1v1 battle and take strafing cabilties to a another level in Halo. They could also be used as a very short but quick dodge move on charging enemies. When jumping you could also perform masterful jumps with the combination of of these quick horizontal bursts of movement. Maybe you could also apply this to jumping as well where if you double tapped A you could jump off walls giving players even more movement capabilities.

  2. Grenades that explode by shooting them.- These grenades would be highly explosive and would be wonderful to take out campers or as a strategic move on a chasing enemy. They also would have an EMP effect on vehicles if shot in mid-air. They would be slowly thrown projectiles and would only explode if you shot one with your gun or in combination with other explosives, creating for a more strategic but powerful grenade that would kill if a direct hit, but otherwise would have a small blast radius. The trick shots with this kind of grenade would be legendary!

5. Enhanced melee combat- By holding B you would have a farther reaching lunge melee that is slower, but has more range and would take down the opponents shields completely. The result of missing this melee would result in a slower recovery time where the opponent would have the advantage at CQB. This all fits into a high risk high reward philosophy.

6. New weapon- Air gun- This gun would be a charged weapon that would shoot concentrated bursts of air allowing players to propell themselves up and over the map. The height would not be nearly as high as the max range of the jetpack but more like how high you could get on a grav lift to allow for creative decision making and enhance combat options. It would have a large reticule similar to the size of the shotgun’s that would require the player to be aiming at the ground to propell themselves vertically, or at walls for a quick escape move. Air gun+sniper rifle combination would allow for unbeleivable trick shots postitiong. This gun would also allow players to shoot enemies creating distance between themselves and the enemy and possibly knocking weapons/vehicles off cliffs or flipping vehicles.

7__. New power-up- Enchanced movement__- This would be a new power-up that players would have to control that would give players double the speed and jump capabilties of a normal player for a short period of time lasting a shot period of time(maybe 20-30 seconds?). A sword+shotgun combined with this power-up would be devasting, and would allow for flanking capabilties and would make enemies focus on this player to bring him down much like the overshield.

These are just the ideas I came up within a short period of time, and I will be adding to this list if I come up with new ones.i know at least a couple of my ideas could be implemented and would greatly benefit Halo!

I recently watched the preview of Halo CEA on Amazon.com with a few of my friends, and we all noticed some minor discrepencies with the game. Before I explain them, I need to mention that everyone but me thought that these are 343 Industries is trying to change elements of Halo to be the way they want rather than the way Halo is. I saw these more as mistakes, which I will now point out for repair. But of course, if 4/5 people watching it thought that, there are doubtless a good amount that will be buying Halo in the future that will feel the same way.

First and foremost, we noticed that the Covenant were wearing the Reach armor, which they weren’t still using in Halo CE; they were all using the generic armor (the minor form). I can understand that new graphic capabilities allow you to play with new models. I also understand that since the Covenant were using several different armor types on Reach. Taking those two facts in to account, but also including that they had transitioned to a simpler armor form, set it up so that some use the generic armor with the colors indicating rank, while others still haven’t been given new generic armor yet.
Here’s my idea. The forces boarding the Pillar of Autumn are all using the generic armor, but in the first level on Halo and Truth and Reconciliation, some of the groups are using the generic and some are using the old armor from Reach. In The Silent Cartographer and Assault on the Control Room, they’ve all been given generic armor, but in 343 Guilty Spark, some are using the old armor again because they’ve been there a while. There are no [living] Covenant in The Library, so that’s not a problem. Then in Two Betrayals, Keyes, and The Maw, they’re all using the generic armor.
Setting up the game to be in the process of transitioning to the standard armor would satisfy most people, and make perfect sense within the Halo Universe.

The second thing is minor. We all compared the new Mark V to the original, and the visor runs farther down the helmet in the original. I think the new helmet looks kind of stupid now, with a big ol’ slab of green metal on the bottom. Looking down at your feet would be difficult in that thing…

The third involves the Assault Rifle. What is the point of making it look more like the one in Reach? The original is more streamlined, making it harder to break and more effective overall, if you really think like someone who designs weapons. Not to mention that the original one was the one in the original game, which you’re remaking.

The fourth and final is about the weapons in general. I couldn’t tell if you were adding any weapons that weren’t in the original, but if you do, do it right. Don’t go making the tube (grenade launcher) more abundant than shotguns. I saw that you were bringing back the old pistol.
I had a suggestion about that, too: why not put in that pistol and the pistol from Halo 2? Just add their actual design name (M6D and M6C) to the name you see when you pick one up. Players should have an easy enough time telling them apart; one’s a mini grenade launcher, and the other is your typical compact handgun.

>

I also have a suggestion, one that wouldn’t affect anything in terms of gamplay. We all know that Clarence Clemons passed away over the weekend, and I find it hard to believe there aren’t a lot of you out there at 343 Industries that are E Street Band fans, and there are tons of players out there that must be, too. You guys know how Johnson was playing music before he and his men landed in the swamp in 343 Guilty Spark, right? I think it would be great if you were to replace that song with a Bruce Springsteen song. I was thinking of either part of Jungleland or the part of Tenth Avenue Freeze Out where Bruce sings, “… and the Big Man joined the band”, and the Big Man himself plays. Both songs would fit the story and dialogue - they are the Humanity’s history - and I’m sure the E Street Band would love for you to use their song.

Unfinished game is unfinished.

Give them some time and I’m sure they’ll sort out the errors. I think 343i is trying to keep alot of things the same in Halo CEA as in the original. If they’re keeping the physics the same, and giving us the option for original graphics I’m pretty sure they won’t go round changing stuff unless it’s for the upgraded graphics (in which case no change to original graphics). Oh but there will be terminals and data pads but that’s minor.

On top of much improved storytelling I would just love a long, meaty, Campaign, that shocks and awes; and which feels both fresh and familiar. That would be so very welcome. I would also like to see the same buzz around Halo 4, as there was around 2 and 3; more so the former. The build up to Halo 2’s release was truly felt by gamers, and non-gamers alike. With Halo Cryptum enjoying great reviews by fans of the universe, and sci-fi enthusiasts in general, it’s a nice start. I think the new Forerunner trilogy is preparing us for some huge, and fascinating, experiences.

I believe in you, 343.

I guess if I could relay any message/wish to 343 it would be the desire for a Halo Wars 2 that supports space battles. An ideal version of Halo Wars 2 would mimic the setup of Star Wars: Empire at War but based on the Halo-verse instead.

Bring back duel wielding.
Have species differ combat wise.
Elites-faster, shield recharge faster, bigger melee range.
Spartans- jump higher, faster melee, MUCH faster health recharge.
Also new Visr Ideas besides night vision.

  1. Variable zoom. Makes you zoom more with most weapons and allows you to aim with it.
  2. x-ray- lets you see through walls.
  3. analyzer- evaluates all enemies on your screen with a little box next to them showing primary and secondary weapons, equipment, Shield and health%, and more if needed.
  4. Rear vision lets you see behind you with a little box in the corner or split screen.
  5. Heat sensory vision- allows you to see enemies better especially from longer distances.
    Also equipment idea.
  6. Shatters glass within a radius making drivers in certain vehicles vulnerable.
  7. Marks each player that comes within it radius with a tag until they or you die. (may show to teamates.)
3.An explosive device. It explodes when you let go of the button you used to throw it. (should have a decent explosion.)

Phantoms and Pelicans would be nice, even if just in campaign. I know you can drive one in reach but it’s glitchy and you can’t fire its main guns right and have nobody to ride in it with you unless you play co-op.
More shade turret types, like AA and fuel rod in forge.

Also for the rank system I think it should be trueskill based on individual play(k/d ratio.)
Positive k/d gives you 1 point 5+ gives you an extra point and vice versa. Plus 1 point for mvp.
Then have a different rank like recruit-Noble for armory purposes. Each piece of armor could require many different requirements. Lets say 1 needs highest skill of 12, rank captain, 600 Halo gamerscore, and a certain achievement.individual requirements would be easy but fun as you see your goal get closer.
Since many people have a problem with AA I suggest a different filler. Each game you spawn with a number of your chosen equipment seperate from equipment you pick up. Lets say I start with 5 power drains. After each use there’s a 30 second cooldown and I wasted 1 of my equipments. Once I waste all 5 i can only use my equipment pickups and not my stockpile equipment. It wouldn’t be that cheap because you would get a very limited amount each game and it has a long cooldown. But it would also help in situation in which you are getting spawn killed or a vehicle is present and no anti-vehicular weapons are available.

I did enjoy the holiday writing on Valhalla and hope 343 does something like that for Halo 4.

There have been many great stand-alone statements, discussions, and even criticisms posted throughout Halo’s career. The majority of the well written items have been relatively positive and helpful. To save time and space, I will only briefly list a few overarching trends I’ve noticed across the Halo-nation over the years. Please, take these items to heart.

> For Halo…**
>
> 1) Create a compelling, mysterious, captivating, and beautiful story we all know the Halo Universe holds. There are many paths future Halo games may take. Capture our imagination, make us think, and provide us with that world of wonder we came to love ten years ago.
>
> 1) Represent all walks of life in the multiplayer gaming-sphere equally. Never again should one item dominate the entire sandbox. Variety is the spice of life.
>
> 1) Communicate with members of the Halo Nation as much as possible. Gamers, especially those with Halo from the beginning, represent a large portion of your longest and most valued consumer. Design your product for them while being fair yet equal to your other target market.
>
> 1) Regardless of the controversial topics surrounding Reach (one’s I’m not ashamed to admit I participated in), do not be afraid to try something different. Halo will always know what its bread and butter is. As long as your company can stay firm and admit any faults, you will prosper in whatever kind of Halo title you create.
>
> 1) Finally…

That is all I have for now 343 Industries. Thank you for your time.
