THE OFFICIAL HALO FEEDBACK THREAD

I would like to see Halo expand beyond what it is now. Maybe an ODST game that plays similar to SW Republic Commando or(as another user said) a rogue Squadron esque game w/ longswords and seraphs. Also I’d like to see another Halo Wars, but this time with The Flood as a playable race(maybe forerunners/sentinels too) and space combat. I really would love to control a massive UNSC or Covenant fleet.

Fisrt, sorry for my english, i speak french, but i really want 343i to read what i would like to see in the next Halo.

Halo 4 weapons :
Bring back dual wield (dw), improve the bloom

Human:
-MA37 AR (32 rounds) MA5B AR (60 rounds, i really miss this gun, make it feel different from the MA37)
-DMR (one shot, it will keep a lot of fans happy) BR (3 shots burst fire, it will make the other group of fans happy)
-M6G (dw, scope, low rate of fire, high power) M6C (dw, high rate of fire, medium power) M6C SOCOM (dw, scope, high rate of fire, low power)
-shotgun
-grenade launcher
-M41 SSR rocket launcher (lock on flying target) M19 SSM rocket launcher (lock on ground vehicles, less powerful)
-sniper rifle
-SMG (dw) Silenced SMG (scope)
-Spartan Laser
-grenade

Covenant:
-Plasma repeater, Plasma rifle (dw) Brute plasma rifle (dw, i really like to dual wield with the plasma rifle)
-Plasma pistol (dw)
-needler (dw)

  • covenant Carbine, needle rifle
    -spiker (dw) mauler (dw)
    -focus rifle, particle beam rifle
-Brute shot ( bouncing grenades from halo 2) concussion rifle
-Fuel rod gun (both reach and halo ce versions) Plasma launcher
-Plasma sword, gravity hammer, energy stave (from halo 2 honor guard, long range melee weapon, less powerful than plasma sword)
-plasma grenade, spike grenade, firebomb grenade

Forerunner:
-sentinel beam

3rd person view weapon :

-flamethrower
-missile pod (lock on flying and ground vehicles)
-AIE-486 heavy machine gun (gatling turret) M247H heavy machine gun
-plasma cannon, hunter assault cannon (beam version)

add new covenant, human and forerunner weapons

What i would like to see in Halo 4

AA:
-Jetpack
-armor lock (more balanced)
-sprint
-evade
-hologram
-invisibilty
-bubble shield
-new ability that makes you able to pick up, carry and deploy equipments from halo 3

equipment:
-bubble shield (indestructible, don’t regenerate heath)
-regenerator (regenerate shield)
-flare
-power drain
-deployable cover
-portable gravity lift
-auto turret
-radar jammer (and simulating sounds like gun fire, explosion, etc)
-trip mine
-invincibility (last 10 seconds, can move, shield don’t regenerate during the 10 seconds)
-invisibility (last 20 second, permanent invisibility even if you move, fire your weapon or get shot)
-overshield (can only use when shield is full, slowly reduce to normal shield)
-jackal gauntlet shield (can only use with dual wield weapons)
-new equipment that makes your spartan armor self-destruct in an explosion when you die

Vehicles we can drive in campaign and multiplayer i would like to see in halo 4

-warthog (chaingun, gauss, missile from reach, rocket from halo pc, troop transport, flatbed)
-scorpion tank
-mongoose
-falcon, hornet, banshee
-Pelican, phantom, spirit dropship(that means huge maps 16vs16, can carry vehicles)
-ghost, chopper
-wraith, anti-air wraith, revenant
-prowler, spectre
-Scarab halo 2 version (powerful, easy to board and destroy) scarab halo 3 version (less powerful, difficult to board and destroy)
-shadow (troup transport version)
-elephant
-vehicles from halo wars like the locust, gremlin(would be great, no fire power but a EMP cannon that can neutralize vehicles an spartan shield), etc
-water and forerunner vehicles

halo ce shade turret, halo 2 shield turret, halo 3/reach shade turret (normal, anti-air, fuel rod gun)

There may be similar vehicles or weapons in my list, but they are part of halo universe. I know its’s a lot of things, but more you add, more the fans will be happy. Diversity is what makes a game fun to play. It’s your fisrt halo game, i think you have to do the best you can to make it the best halo game ever. thanks for reading and bringing new ideas.

> All right here are my ideas for Halo 4
>
> Multiplayer:
>
> Bring back the skill use (like in Halo 2 and 3)
> Don’t over power the grenades like in Reach
> Bring back the ranked and unranked skill level
> Bring back the customization
> Make the credit earning and ranking up separate (so the player can still customize their character but still be in the same rank and we can tell who has skill and who doesn’t)
> Bring back the challenges like in Reach
> Bring back the skill to be able to use weapons
> Don’t put in weapon customization then it will be like Call of Duty (well thats a rumor i heard)
> Don’t bring back armor abilities
> Don’t put in vehicle customization then it will be more like a racing game (another rumor i heard)
> Don’t make the maps huge unless invasion is making an appearance
> Make the game feel like Halo 2 and 3 and build on that
> Bring back the BR (that gun was the main weapon in Halo 2 and 3)
> Don’t use the campaign for multiplayer maps (make original maps)
> And make the Halo Veterans happy excluding New Players in Halo Reach
>
> Campaign:
>
> Make the Campaign Challenging at Legendary unlike Reach
> Put armor abilities back but only in campaign
> Make the Legendary ending rewarding
> And make the Halo Veterans think this is the best Halo Campaign

> Forge:

> Basically keep it the same as Reach but build on that

> I believe you guys (343 employees) can make a good halo game if u guys listen to us as much as Bungie did

Wow…some non-MLG-easq comments in the last few pages…I’m excited.

*Flood Fire Fight = Cool…hell they could even take over a regular firefight in later rounds just to make it harder.

*I also support the Reach Ranking system…& would like to see both unused credits & your own personal armory carried over…just for those of us who have stuck around & supported the franchise with out money / time. I think I’d also like to see the Katana come back from Halo 3 if possible.

*Making the visor do “stuff” like back in ODST would be great…hell ODST was great except for that empty open world stuff.

*Miggagito…you seem like the “MLG”/Elitist type to me. And, I do think Halo: CE multiplayer would hurt Reach; moreover, CoD is the current fad…& splitting our community into two isn’t smart. Epically with Gears 3 being on the horizon; moreover, I think we’re going to loose a lot of people to that. If 343 wants to sell any more map packs…they need to stick with what they have.

*Halo 4 Beta should come with Halo: CE…this is common scene…

*Grenades are fine…they should kill people…they are massive explosions in a ball. Frankly, I think they should have more power like they did in the Beta.

*I think custom weapons would be cool…its something CoD has done right. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy…even just a diffrent sight or scope would be cool…even if it were just for Fire Fight or something.

True story.

Since the announcement of CE anniversary, my buds and I have been playing 4 on 4 on halo CE. in a frenzy about finally being able to play it online. I mean sure back in the day we used “XBconnect” some nights we would have full on 8 on 8 sidewinder ctf going all night. or slayer on hang’em high, straight bloodbaths on beaver creek shotgun rampages on longest, back alley street fights on rat race mayhem on blood gulch, and the occasional damnation or chill out (we may be the only who despise those maps) one of the guys i was playing asked if they are gonna keep the multiplayer exactly the same on the anniversary edition. I figured slight changes to it, basically new maps a couple new game modes. then last night I had a thought, “what if they mess it up” so around 3 am I am on the computer to look this up, it didn’t take long to find out it’s not gonna be the same at all.

Fact: the only thing missing from the original, that was flawed, that aggravated many, NO XBOX LIVE SUPPORT.

not once did anyone say “Oh I wish they had put in cool abilities like a jet pack” or “Man this game woulda been so much better if only they just had better maps”

But I can guarantee everyone who ever got 8 people playing 4 on 4 on two tvs or the occasional 8 on 8 on 4 tvs, sitting in the next room as your enemy, whispering CTF strategy to your teammates, screaming when those plans failed or laughing as they screamed bc they succeeded. Have said aloud with others nodding there heads in feverous agreement,

“THEY HAVE TO MAKE THIS GAME ON XBOX LIVE”

Not add armor abilities or change any maps, I pray they don’t put new guns in it. If I pick up or see someone using any weapon that wasn’t in the original I am giving away my xbox forever. most likely I won’t buy the game, but if I do and I’m getting REACH again than I’m done. I had Reach, It was and still is fun at times, in my opinion best since Combat Evolved, don’t get me wrong Halo 2 was pretty good too, but If I’m getting Reach again,I might even fly over to 343 studios and have some words with these yahoos. If I want REACH, I will go out and buy REACH used and return in 7 days for my money back, like I said it is fun from time to time.

I want HALO. not Halo 2. Not Halo 3. Not ODST, Not Reach.

I want Halo. I read they did this as to not divide up the fans. A true halo fan would want the original. a true Halo fan would sell his sister to sea pirates at the chance to kill a noob on xbox live with 3 shots to the dome from a pistol that can be used across the biggest maps. I don’t care about graphics. I don’t care about new maps, I don’t care about armor abilities, I don’t care about Reach, I don’t Care about ODST, I don’t care about Halo 2 or halo 3.

But I do care about Halo CE. I would hope Mr. O’connor would care too. Maybe have some Integrity, show some spine and make this game exactly like the original. Do it for the true fans. The ones ten years ago bought your masterpiece and launched this behemoth franchise, don’t change it because “fans” that ten years ago weren’t old enough to fully enjoy the experience, maybe weren’t even born yet, probably watching an older brother play while holding a control that wasn’t plugged in, won’t buy the game if it isn’t made exactly like the newer games. Don’t change a thing from the original, leave the graphics leave the weapons, just give us XBOX live.

We have been faithfully buying all things Halo for 10 years. And this is the thank you we get?
Make Halo 4 however the heck you want, leave Halo CE the way it is.

Amen to that dude

I was looking at the trailer for Combat Evolved Anniversary and saw a couple new stuff and they had an interview (which im pretty sure you saw as well) saying that they added new stuff i was like “Nooooo why add stuff if you guys just said that they are keeping the game as it was 10 years ago”

I was pretty excited when i heard rumors of CE getting a remake but when i saw the confirmation and the interview i was like this game is going to turn into Reach. Which us, Halo Veterans, loved to play the original CE over and over without any thoughts of this should be add or this should get deleted. We loved the way the game played and 343 should respect that and leave it the way it is, just update the graphics and make it xbox live compatible not “Oh since this is the anniversary lets add stuff so it feels like Halo CE in the campaign and Reach on Matchmaking.”

343 should respect us with the anniversary by not changing the way the game feels but the way it looks.

Okay we don’t get the original Halo mp online compatible, but can we still get it so we can play splitscreen or system link? I guess it wouldn’t ask that much more effort and it would be better than nothing.

I have to say, when I heard the rumor that Halo CE was being remade EXACTLY the same it brought be back to halo. Then I find out that the Multiplayer will be on the Reach engine… I must say… I little disappointing. I won’t same I am not greatful, but it isn’t a true remake that way.

At the very least, please make Death Island, Danger Canyon, Timberlands, infinity, and ice fields some of the classics you are bringing back. I always wanted to play these on the xbox Halo CE but it was never made an option. Only the PC players had access to these. If you can do this, I will give you no complaints about it being on the Reach Engine, and you will have my buy!

Halo 4 Forge: It should have skins for objects, for example human, covenant, forerunner, natural. I also think that a large forge map which has areas with different environments would be good, eg snow, forest, dessert. Players can then choose which suits their map best and could even use multiple environments.

Halo 4 general points: Maps for multiplayer and firefight (if they have this) should not be created as part of the campaign as well, otherwise they would be compromising between what’s good for MM/FF and what’s good for campaign.
Customizable weapon traits would having many benefits.
Most importantly the scenery in the campaign has to be amazing and must have the mysteriousness that the previous halos brought. This is especially important when it’s going to be the start of a new trilogy.
Also please stick with canon.

Halo 4 ranking system suggestion (copied from a post I may in another thread):
The ranking system I suggest is similar to both Halo 3 and Halo Reach, taking the advantages from both and removing the disadvantages. Imaging the Halo 3 system, but instead of earning EXP at the end of every game you earn cR instead, much like in Halo Reach. Highest skill will again play a part in your rank, accept this time it is not determined simply by win or loses alone but also how well you play in a game. That way if your team looses and you played well your highest skill won’t be negatively affected, but also at the same time wining will still positively affect your highest skill. This means players will be motivated to win but will avoid boosting. Highest skill will only be achievable through ranked playlists.

The benefit of Reach’s ranking system is that most players can keep player for years and still have a higher rank to aim for, the disadvantage is that rank does not represent skill but time played instead, which is somewhat unfair to skilled players who don’t have a lot of time to play. This is where Halo 3’s system was better, rank more accurately represented skill.

For this reason, in the new ranking system, ranks up to general require skill as well as cR and ranks after general (which requires the maximum skill of say 50) will only require a lot more cR. This system represents skill but still give players ranks to aim for even after reaching the maximum highest skill.

Now that I have summarised what I think would be a good ranking system, I will add a few details. Ranks leading up to and including general have a base rank requiring a certain highest skill. These ranks will then have a prefix/suffix depending on how much cR they have collected, eg Force Colonel, General Grade 3. cR can be used to buy armour like in Halo Reach and can still be earned through commendations and challenges.
Also I think it would be good if the ranked playlists had something similar to arena ratings, so even after a player gets 50 highest skill in a particular playlist they still have a reason to play that playlist.

> Halo 4 general points: Maps for multiplayer and firefight (if they have this) should not be created as part of the campaign as well, otherwise they would be compromising between what’s good for MM/FF and what’s good for campaign.

This is very important. Campaign, multiplayer, and Firefight levels should be kept completely separate. If you’re trying to make a good campaign map but also make sure its suitable for MP or Firefight, you’ll end up doing neither very well. Learn from Bungie’s mistakes.

Change the armor in Halo ce anniversary to halo reach mark V armor but with less bulky shoulder pads, no knife and his Ammo/utility belt. That would look so much better than re doing his armor like the trailer. yuck

Ideas for Halo reach add on’s or for Halo 4

  • Flood firefight(no explanation needed)

  • Reverse firefight( Covenant versus UNSC AI. Army, Marines, Odst, Spartan 3’s, and final wave Master Chief!)

  • Weapon weapon packs(Instead of map packs add new and classic weapons from previous games and novels)
ex: smg, MA5K Carbine, beam rifle, needle shotgun, mauler and the list goes)

  • flood infection( play as the flood and kill players. Have AI carrier forms to infect dead body then players take control)

  • 8 on 8 is so ten years ago(16 on 16 or more)

  • forge firefight(nuff said)

  • Mix game types in forge(use to make spins of invasion or even mission type games with working AI and ext)

  • Armor ability pack(new armor abilities like over shield or berserk, self destruct for certain game types maybe)

  • Better friendly AI( AI is awesome for the enemy but your guys not so much. It is some of the best AI but you know its bad when they make your teammates invincible. They should hide at take cover like thoughs damn Elites do when there shields are down. And Emile shooting his shotgun at enemies way out of range).

Sorry for the format errors, I’m new to forums.

New game ideas.

Idea 1

Since everyone loved flying in space in halo Reach you all should really consider making a xbla title with the same premise. Just saying that would be awesome. Look at how many people bought the peanuts flying games. Have an online coop, battle and firefight mode. the campaign could take place throughout Halo history and play similar to rouge squadron and star fox 64 with rail shooter levels like being a gunner on the back of a pelican or a falcon. Really it could be awesome. Hire me and I could be like a creative director of something lol.

Idea 2

Halo wars 2. Please. First one was to simple and one sided online. Add more units and let us use the full wheel in matchmaking

Idea 3

Another Halo Odst. I loved the first one except for the night missions. Nathan Fillion is the Man! I don’t really have ideas on a story off the top of my head but i think it should play differently than other halos. I mean the feel should be the same but a first person cover system would be nice since we only human and all. Keep sprint and jet pack for certain missions but not as switchable abilities.

Idea 4

Halo survival horror game with the flood. I liked the mona lisa alot and although there are games out like it now it would be nice to see a Halo spin on it. You just can’t be a spartan.

These are a few ideas and hopefully the right people would like them.

A fan’s perspective of the evolution of the series (long read).
Hi there, I’ve been playing Halo since the very first game not since day one, but before Halo 2 was announced. Halo CE was an instant favourite of mine; it had a certain feel of adventure, of exploration, gritty science fiction, big, relatively long missions that were quite different from each others, multiple types of enemies and encounters, cool twists, etc. It had something which is kinda old school in a way since it’s drifting off games nowadays, something which I always loved, and it’s a more… intimate, adventuresque approach to the FPS genre. You know, getting from point A to point B in a quite progressive way, keeping your head into the game the whole time. Long missions that had a certain steady pacing, letting you feel like playing the Master Chief. I’ll get to that later, but nowadays it’s more about a certain movie feel and being afraid of boring the audience with too long or repetitive sequence, and I think what results is an experience that don’t take the advantages of gaming. It makes you feel like playing an interactive movie rather than a real game, the cinematic style, the pacing which is too fast and all over the place, there’s a certain number of elements that makes it hard to get INTO the game, to not feel taken away every now and then because there’s too much happening all the time, or because it looses that certain intimate feel.
It’s probably the reason why Halo CE is my favourite Halo. You start as the Chief in the Pillar of Autumn, making your way to Keyes, getting briefed, then trying to get out. Crashing on Halo, trying to rescue the marines, and then rescuing Keyes. Then, you were dropped off a pelican not too close to the lift, making your way through the desert, getting in the lift, inside, searching through the Covenant ship for some time. Better examples are Silent Cartographer or Assault on the Control Room. In the former, you were on that island, which you had to go around in any way you wanted to find the map. It was a certain space, and different objectives were given to you and asked you to go around the island, it wasn’t go from point A to point B, not that it’s negative, or always negative in itself, but the level design of SC really gave a certain feel of being there and do things. For Assault on the Control Room, I liked how the outsides and insides were connected, and how it helped to give us a certain sense of exploration and scale. Take the ONI: Sword Base mission for example, you spend a certain amount of time outside doing things, but when you go inside, it’s tiny. You spend 5 minutes there. It felt disproportionate and unrealistic there. Sure, nothing can be on realistic proportions in games, but you just can get inside the ONI building, something I bet many fans were excited about, only to get through a couple of corridors to your objective. Nightfall did it much better though.
As I said, in Halo CE, you felt like being the Master Chief doing his thing, in Reach (even though I preferred the cinematic style to Halo 3), you felt like playing an interactive movie instead because the pacing was all over the place. Even on my first playthrough I was unsettled by this. On Winter Contingency, I was like “wow, pretty cool, wait it’s over?” In ONI: Sword Base, I got inside the base and was like: “wait, that’s it? That’s all I get out of the ONI building, finished already?” The worst offender was Long Night of Solace. The beach encounter was 2 minutes, then when you reach the launch site, bang in the Sabre already. No getting rid of enemies? No briefing whatsoever? It’s a secret launch site, it would have been fun to get more out of it, rather than walk a corridor and straight into space. At least the transitional cinematic was really well done and exactly my type of thing for this. And then same thing, the Sabre encounters are short, and we never really do anything special. Then you get the epic thing of boarding a Covenant vessel, but the fight on top is a very short one. And then the interior is very small. What made Truth and Reconciliation so epic, was how long you spent time into the ship, it was you getting further and further into the belly of the beast to rescue Keyes. It’s thing like this that makes decently long encounters and steady pacing a good thing, giving feel to encounters and effects that Halo CE did on numerous occasions. In Reach instead, it was get in, get out, easy as that, it didn’t feel dangerous at all. All this to say, please 343, make epic missions again. Give us a feel of progressing through the objective, give us a feel of scale in other ways than fancy explosions and such, give us bigger levels again. But that’s not even what I originally wanted to say.
Anyway, I also loved Halo 2. The missions were shorter, but they were actually cut in half, so they were very much still on par with Halo CE in their length and sense of everything I said earlier. The missions were more linear, but because of the environments, because of the story, the objectives, level design and the still intimate feel of the storytelling (despite being more space opera-y this time, you still felt like following the adventures of the characters you controlled) made such thing appear less problematic. And I loved playing as the Arbiter, it was well done, a bold move, yes, but it helped give us a whole new perspective, go to different places and do different exciting things. It also helped Halo 2 feeling quite different than Halo CE.

Then came Halo 3 which I had mixed feelings about. The missions got shorter (except for 2, maybe 3 of them which were by far the bests) and the cinematic style was way too much Hollywood-y. Too much did it felt like saying “look at me, see how epic I am”. The problem is, it doesn’t work that way, at least for me. For me to feel something being epic, I need to feel what is happening being epic, not being told so through music, speeches or whatever. It kept telling us we were the last hope and how the flood had to be stopped else all life would disappear, but we all knew that, and it’s a game, it’s hard to care for something that doesn’t exist, so why try to appeal to us with our sentiments for something we already understand and don’t need to be talked about. You need to show us that instead. And then you got the ending which I didn’t like at all. Why show us what happened on Earth? We know it is devastated and all, and what we saw was kinda underwhelming. Not showing us would have made us use our imagination instead. But even then, I still think it shouldn’t have been shown. You played as the Chief the whole game, you ARE the Chief, so why loose time somewhere he isn’t? It’s irrelevant. Going straight to Chief in space would have been much, much more ominous. You succeeded, yet you are lost and have no idea what is happening. It gives a much cooler feeling for me, I feel it is a much better conclusion to a epic trilogy. Giving a sense of mystery and unknown, something the series always did for the Furerunner or Flood would have been much more appropriate. And then, why should I care for all those who died, why mourn them in front of me when I’m just playing a game?
And something I was about to forget, I think Bungie dropped the ball on the Arbiter. Why give him as much play time as the Chief, only to throw him away in the next game? He’s around, but he does nothing, it’s as if he’s there only because they need to do something with him because he was important in Halo 2. Otherwise I thought there were a couple of neat things added to the gameplay to keep things a bit fresh and exciting, like scarab battles, all of which were different and gave you choice on the approach.
Then arrives ODST. It was kinda neat, but playing as an ODST wasn’t all that different, I think it was a missed opportunity. And the campaign felt like a best of the “best” moments of past Halo games. It had the sense of progression of Halo CE and 2 back, but the gameplay started to feel stale a bit. It had a couple of neat things about the environments you were in and the objectives, the story, but ultimately it was all “done this, done that”, and it felt even more obvious as it felt like a compilation of specific Halo moments.
Reach tried to do things a bit different by adding armor abilities, but it felt like an afterthought more than anything else. The jet-pack bit in New Alexandria was cool, but brief and wasn’t explored to its full potential. It brought a more intimate cinematic style, although I felt the story and campaign lacking. I didn’t care much about the characters, and I felt they missed a lot of opportunities from the game taking place in Reach. No spartan training ground? Not more of the UNSC or ONI? What about the space defenses? Reach didn’t feel like a military stronghold at all. And you rarely sensed the scale of the battle. As far as the level design goes, there was a couple of neat bits, but ultimately, it felt like a downgrade form Halo 3. It felt like Bungie didn’t know what to do after all those games. A lot of the missions felt like “b-sides” of past Halo ones. They didn’t bring things to a higher scale at all, in fact, where did the scarab battles go? So we got underwhelming level design which helps contributes into aging the gameplay.
All this to say, 343, please bring some life back into the franchise. The series is aging, and nothing really special happened. It’s the same gameplay, more or less the same level design approach, and each subsequent Halo game lost a bit of the magic, excitement and fun of the original gameplay. Also, I know different people look into things differently, but please try to get certain feelings back in the series, may it be via the pacing, level design or cinematics. Use the technology to make real sandbox levels, introduce new elements, dynamic objectives, multiple ones, etc. Keep the original gameplay sure, but build on top of it as much as possible to make the series stay relevant. I always looked forward each Halo game, but the excitement somewhat dropped over time. I also wanted to say all this to give a fan’s perspective of the evolution of the series.

If Halo 4 has equipment allow you to carry 2 at once but only if they are the same exact equipment like an ammo cap. Also maybe vehicle abilities? like autodrive, cloak, self destruct, auto repair? Also to make up for vehicles low survivability make regenerator heal vehicles as well or make a seperate equipment that fixes vehicles, maybe even if they are already destroyed?

The Halo 4 ranking system absolutely needs to be competitive once again with a 1-50 ranking system. I sold my copy of Reach within a couple weeks due to how boring ranking up with exp is. Please give us the 1-50 ranks again!

You should of played arena to test you skill. That is a great way to test “true skill”, just saying.
