> Personally, I’ve been done with Reach for a long time and have no intentions of ever going back to it. In fact, I can’t because I sold both of my copies. I would love to be able to play Damnation once again, but if it’s going to be in the context of Reach multiplayer, I’d rather not. Reach just isn’t fun, for me at least. Original Halo CE multiplayer, on the other hand, is a lot of fun. And I’d love to get the old teams back together for some matches. Unlike when I was younger, it’s nearly impossible to get everyone together in one house these days to LAN Halo CE. Just too many different schedules and responsibilities. Halo CE multiplayer through Live would make it possible though.
It think you’re letting nostalgia get in the way of common sense there buddy. I loved Halo:CE it was one of the greatest games I ever owned, I played Campaign so much I know all of the dialogue by heart, I played so much split screen multiplayer and XB:Connect that I absolutely rule with the pistol.
But once I played Halo 2 I realised that it was more fun online, the new system of doing things in Halo2/3 was all together more rewarding than CE and a LOT more people enjoyed it. Now I agree that Reach is far from the game we all loved but aiming for CE multiplayer would kill it even more.
The Anniversary remake of single player is an excellent idea, but matching multiplayer wouldn’t be as popular as everyone likes to believe. I think using the Reach engine was the right choice by the majority of the fans but what needs to be done now is tweaks to Reach multiplayer, specifically the Bloom mechanic and AA balance.
Here are a few suggestions for the upcoming Halo 4;
Weapons
1)The BR should return
-It should be a single fire weapon not a 3-shot burst (solves the BR spread)
-should remain 4 shots to kill
-make a rate of fire cap (fixes the spamming problem and balances the BR as it wont work as well in CQC)
2)Pistol
Either a little faster or same rate of fire as Halo 3 make it 4 shot too.
Sniper rifle should NOT be an anti-vehicle weapon
Weapon Gameplay
No Bloom on precision weapons (a.k.a any headshot capable weapon)
-instead have fixed rates of fire (this automatically balances the weapon and fixes spamming)
Make them ineffective against vehicles UNLESS its team concentrated fire
Take out Armor lock but keep other AA’s they aren’t AS overpowered.
I hate to say this but Cod went the right way with their custom classes. That would be nice but not to make a HUGE difference in gameplay only a slight one to tailor each player to their preferances and playstyles. Also Flood fight is a must but make it a different game from firefight.
If you do include flood fight:
1.Make new flood species.
2. Make better rewards after each wave/round, like a vehicle drop or reinforcements.
3.Make the maps large so you can escape easily but lots of cover to block lines of sight. Also make camping spots that are only good for one scenarion. Like a park surrounded by a gate to fight tank forms but vulnerable to air enemies. Or perhaps a barricaded building with small holes to let in smaller units.
4. Allow flood to infect spartans as well as marines and ODSTs.
5. If enough flood are concentrated in one area allow them to form a Gravemind. It would have health for itself and seperate for its tentacles. Each tentacle could either be used to sieze assets such as an incoming pelican that’s going to drop troops or a vehicle you were about to enter, making the gravemind a high priority and giving flood fight a sort of “boss fight”
ALL Armor Abilities should be taken away EXCEPT for Sprint, Evade and Jetpack
-Sprint should be part of the base spartan and it should be like in all games (i.e hold LS to sprint)
-Evade should also be part of the base spartan should be on the Right Bumper
-Jetpack should ALSO be part of the base spartan and it should be on the Left Bumper
(This ensures everyone is on the same level playing field as everyone starts off with the same thing)
Bubble-shield should be a pickup
-Active Camo should be pickup
-Armor Lock should be taken away but and instead be replaced with invulnerability for 1-2 min (only on certain HEAVY BTB maps to counter vehicle -Yoink!-)
~ A Good Ranking System (Which Everyone Loves) [1-50?, H2 Ranking System?]
~ No Bloom (I Don’t mind, but a lot of people that left Reach Did)
~ No Campaign Maps (A LOT of People Complained about the Maps, No Campaign Related maps)
~ No Armor Lock (It Could Be frustrating)
~ Grenades Less Powerful (Please, I Do Not enjoy getting killed by Mini-Nukes)
~ An Epic Campaign [Not one that bored me… [Reach,ODST] it was ok but I just didn’t understand it well)
I was thinking, since they took the hornet out in Halo: Reach does that mean it will be in Halo 4 since Reach was before Halo 3 and in Halo 3 there was a Hornet?
In Halo 4 I’d like to see:
-Individual Weapon Modifiers
-The return of a 1-50 skill-based system
-No reticle bloom
-SLIGHTLY less floatiness than H3
-Shield bleed-though damage
-Less random BR/DMR
EDIT: Also, removal of all AA’s that slow gameplay, as well as the restoral of Active Camo & OS to its formal glory.
Give them a buff; honestly once you get into a warthog your destined to die in less than 3 mins -they should not be vulnerable to BR’s
(however they should be vulnerable to concentrated team fire)
the hornet should return as it was a viable option against the banshee
-Add some new ones in Grenades
-Either a) Return to the Halo 3 style (a.k.a fire crackers) or b) Make them stronger then Reach’s but you get to only have one and plasma nades should be RARE on the maps
Also another thing I think they should have is let turrets on some vehicles survive when the vehicle is destroyed so you feel beast. Like you are hiding behind a ruined wraith and then you get on its plasma turret and start killing enemy players. It adds a certain “feel” to the game. It also wouldn’t affect gameplay that much. Or even if a warthog blows up you can use the turret that will fall of of it(it will obviously not still be attached.)
The Visor should actually be useful
-make it like ODST where pressing up on the d-pad lets you go in-depth
-make it spot enemy player like in crysis 2 (adds more usefulness to visor and adds tactical teamwork)
Melee should be like Halo 3 again
bleed through should return
Jump height and movement speed should return to halo 3 style
-this makes it easier to dodge nades and evade power weapons
*This is my first time posting and I may knot have as much experience with game mechanics or multiplayer as the rest of you so please be easy. I think nades should be nerfed damage-wise but keep the physics, the high bounce really helps when trying to get players in spots like the grav-lift room on countdown. But I think they should still be used to get the upper-hand, so increase the general damage of the aoe while still decreasing kill rate. I believe someone mentioned AIs in here before. I think this is a great idea but have different AIs with different personalities that would encourage different play-styles. For instance an aggressive AI would suggest an aggressive approach while another might suggest a safer but perhaps less effective approach. They could also encourage teamwork like “Get on that warthog with you ally!” or Go help your friend he’s in trouble." To keep it from seeming like a nuisance it should have limited benefits that won’t affect gameplay. Maybe it could mark a weapon within visual range of you that you didn’t notice or advise you to not carry two close-range weapons. Sploosh I personally prefer over recoil. Take it out for semi-automatic weapons all-together and decrease the time it takes for it to return to normal. As for ranking I like the Arena system and think it should be prominent but not just for 1 gametype. Cr should be armor purchasing only. I know a lot of you are saying AA’s are OP but if everyone has one then it’s kinda even. Maybe nerf them a little but they are too much of a part of Halo now imo to take them out. They should add things like maybe different visr such as X-ray, extra zoom, heat sensing, and rear vision(lets you see behind you) that won’t decide a game but will be fun to use as you as a player are using everything at your disposal to overcome your enemy, no matter how insignifigant it may seem. Also I loved equipment from Halo 3 but it wasn’t prominent and was often wasted because you wanted to use it before you die. Maybe add customized loadouts with your chosen AA, AI, Equipment, Visr, and Weapons. But the weapons you chose are limited to basic weapons like Dmrs, Magnums, AR, SMG, Needle Rifle, Etc. Also kill streaks. But not like Cod. Lets say their are 3 tiers. 5 kill streak to advance from each tier to the next. You choose your tier for each loadout. Lets say you choose overshield kill streak.
After 5 kills you get overshield for 30 seconds. After ten it becomes permanent(until you die , when you get your 15 kill streek it’s permanent and your shields recharge faster, or you’re immune to headshots or assassination or something like that. And you could use that for speed, camo, damage, and more! It gives the better players something while not giving the other players a bad chance. I dislike the bleed in because it makes people want to melee rather then rely on their weapon this could also prevent double beatdowns since people will melee less often. but the melee hit box should be increased to prevent those moments when you’re like ? “Where did he go?” Also increase the cooldown after you melee to hit again because that would still give people who are taken by surprise a fighting chance, while still giving the ambusher the upper hand. Speed needs to be increased. This gives players a better ability to dodge, get out of a grenades aoe, and get to where they need to go. But not too much of an increase or it’l get annoying. Again this is my first time, I hope you like my post, and we may not have the same opinion but I ask that you respect it.
I posted this on another thread, I just wanted to make sure it was seen.

There’s no reason people couldn’t play both online. The whole, “this’ll destroy the online community if you bring back Halo CE multiplayer” is a terrible excuse. Just look at BO and MW2, they’re #1 and #2 respectively. I won’t play Reach even with these new maps, but if I had Halo CE multiplayer I would play that. I’m sure there’s lots of others that feel the same way. Everybody complains it’ll split the community, but it may, in fact, add to the community. Reach just ain’t fun, but Halo CE is.
Everyone who supports their decision to not include Halo CE multiplayer is really naive. They obviously decided against it because they want to try and milk as much money as possible out of Reach and Halo 4. Well, here’s something for 343 to think about. If this sorry excuse for an anniversary edition would have had multiplayer, I would have bought 3 copies, one for each of my family members who play live, so we could all play together. There are a lot of gaming families these days, and a lot of times they buy multiple copies so they can all play together online. I already own 4 copies of Halo CE, and don’t plan on buying another unless it has Xbox Live capabilities. Adding CE multiplayer would revitalize the community, not destroy it.
Things that need to be fixed in Halo: CEA to make it better, graphic wise.
First of all, the Halo CE assault rifle needs to have its own model, not just a reused Reach model. They are two different guns. The same goes for the Pistol.
Second, The zealot in the trailre was white. They were gold. Why is everything else using its Halo CE colors except for the zealot?
Third, the marines should look like what they did in Halo CE. The Reach marines simply don’t look right in this game.
Fourth, you guys sure surely remember the curly back grunts from Halo CE. Those should be in Halo CEA. Im really just nitpicking right here, but I think that curly back grunts would be well received.
As im sure you’ve seen by now, these minor graphical issues are making some folks pretty mad. Making people mad isn’t something you want to do, im sure.
Being able to switch between Old and New graphics is cool, and I really like that idea. What would be really cool, is if you could filter what version different things are.
For example, have options for to use the new or old graphics for:
Allies
Enemies
Human weapons
Elite Weapons
The World
Vehicles
Master Chief
Then, the other thing is the music. Have the option to change between the music, and if the sounds get redone as well, have options for those.
I havnt been liking reach that much because it’s lack of focus on skill. Bloom is a good idea but it is way too prevelant in the game. I would of liked it more if it was more like halo CE’s bloom system. I also would like headshots to do more damage like in CE for the next halo title. I feel like when I’m getting headshots in reach (wile the person has shields) I’m not rewarded for being more accurate. I can just spam the body and pop the head.
I’m hoping that halo 4 is less gritty and realistic, halo has always been about having epic large scale battles, with funny lines from grunts and human companions, with a vivid colour pallete. Halo has such a character to it, that no-other game has ever come close to replicating. I love how it is epic, with high stakes at hand, but still has funny parts in it. This is another reason why reach was a let down, it was way too depressing and gritty.
343 industries, all you need to do in Halo 4 is make changes to the gameplay that makes the game have more skill involved, instead of trying to add gimicks to the game such as armour abilities. We will all be happy. And please don’t make the game exactly the same.
The best thing 343 could do is enhance every part of the game, like the melee system, and grenade throwing system. Adding the ability to hold grenades for a few more seconds by holding down the grenade trigger, so you can accurately line up a stick for e.g (but it doesn’t reduce the grenade fuse). Spartans know nearly every matial arts, why isn’t there much focus around melee combat? We’ve all seen the awesome combat scenes in halo wars, where the spartans are blocking and countering the elites melee attacks.
343 needs to re-amp EVERY part of Halo 4 to make it better then reach, and to prove themselves to the world. Such as having the ability to change the landscape in forge, creating your own firefight maps or even campaign missions! Having the ability to place AI in forge. The settings in custom games and firefight should be more extensive too, like being able to change fire rates of weapons, or having the ability to select the enemies weapons (so I can get all the elites to weld energy swords (if Halo 4 has elites), which is like a zombie mode).
This is the ONLY way I think 343 can succeed with this game. It’s a 2012 game, the standards of everyone are very high. I think 343 has the ability to pull this one off.
Bring back the skill use (like in Halo 2 and 3)
Don’t over power the grenades like in Reach
Bring back the ranked and unranked skill level
Bring back the customization
Make the credit earning and ranking up separate (so the player can still customize their character but still be in the same rank and we can tell who has skill and who doesn’t)
Bring back the challenges like in Reach
Bring back the skill to be able to use weapons
Don’t put in weapon customization then it will be like Call of Duty (well thats a rumor i heard)
Don’t bring back armor abilities
Don’t put in vehicle customization then it will be more like a racing game (another rumor i heard)
Don’t make the maps huge unless invasion is making an appearance
Make the game feel like Halo 2 and 3 and build on that
Bring back the BR (that gun was the main weapon in Halo 2 and 3)
Don’t use the campaign for multiplayer maps (make original maps)
And make the Halo Veterans happy excluding New Players in Halo Reach
Campaign:
Make the Campaign Challenging at Legendary unlike Reach
Put armor abilities back but only in campaign
Make the Legendary ending rewarding
And make the Halo Veterans think this is the best Halo Campaign
Forge:
Basically keep it the same as Reach but build on that
I believe you guys (343 employees) can make a good halo game if u guys listen to us as much as Bungie did

I don’t want a ranking system in Halo 4, it will just ruin the game like in Halo 3. It was full of boosters and de-rankers. Mabey one special playlist with it would be good, so all the boosters and de-rankers can play in there and people like you don’t complain about it not being there. The campaign was as challenging as ever, it just you have increased in skill dramaticly over other halo games you have played, plus there is something called ‘skulls’ ever heard of them genius???
I like the ranking system in Reach, since it gives you a long term rank. Mabey a 1-50 would be good for a special play list, but not in all of them.

Ya i heard of them just totally forgot about the skulls because i hardly play the campaign after i beat it
Another thing for Halo 4. The grenade physics should be less bouncy, and settle faster to de-promote spamming. This also rewards accurately placed grenades.
