============
MELEE
this is probably the most flawed system in halo reach. i can see where bungie was going with this, in making it so players didnt have to ‘guess’ when to melee, but this could have easily been done with a small flicker on the players armor instead.
in my opinion the halo 3 post-patch melee system makes the most sense. it functions as follows:
Shoot -> melee -> person who did a significant amount more damage wins.
in halo reach, on the other hand, the melee system sucks the viability of shooting out of some close combat situations involving at least 1 melee. because of this, the ever-so-popular sprint + double melee tactic works as follows:
1.) do i know what range in which shooting is viable? if yes, go to 2.), if no, go to 4.)
2.) is my target at the range in which i can shoot to have any positive effect on the outcome of the battle? if yes, go to 3.), if no, go to 4.)
3.) shoot -> melee (oh, and dont miss a single bullet, because you’ll probably go back into shooting doing nothing to help you again XD)
4.) dont shoot, wait till they are within melee range -> melee -> jump backwards -> headshot.
this is also assuming the player knows that, at some ranges, shooting simply WILL NOT HELP HIM/HER in the least. if the player does not know about this lost viability of shooting, the problem is compounded (and how would you remedy this problem? tell them ‘sorry, but sometimes you simply cant shoot to get ahead’?).
please revert to the bleedthru melee system. it is literally about a billion times more straight forward, and intuitive.

ARMOR ABILITIES
in my opinion, AA’s are fine for halo provided that they are:
-balanced across the board
-ALL VIABLE at higher levels of play
-non-rage inducing (see: armor lock, jet pack, sprint, bubble)
breaking it down further, i’ll go into each AA, and what i could see changing for the better with reasoning why.
ARMOR LOCK - this armor ability is a pretty cool idea. the problem with it is that, at a 2 second max duration it does EVERYTHING it was intended to do (block a melee, block a rocket, block a grenade, etc.) without being BLATANTLY OVERPOWERED like it currently is. armor lock is currently, straight up, the most rage inducing thing to have EVER landed in a halo game, WIDELY hated by the VAST MAJORITY of the community. the reason its hated isnt because of its concept, its because of its implementation, i believe. if armor lock lasted only 2 seconds, or 3 seconds, and had a bit faster cooldown, it would NOT be so widely hated from the community. never in my life have i heard so many people straight up YELL into their mics ‘-insert obscenity-! ARMOR LOCK!’ change here is needed more than any other area.

oh yeah, bring back the old weapons from Halo 3, they were also great
