Hum, are you serious ?
Power Weapons are a big part of the gameplay, they certainly won’t stop that…

And so, what ?
YOU can also do that, it’s not unfair or anything.

add in “juicy” fx to the classic playlist maps, trust me it works perfectly to capture that nostalgia feel

can we also get the anti air wraith from halo 3 and be able to play it on custom games ? and forge ? please

> can we also get the anti air wraith from halo 3 and be able to play it on custom games ? and forge ? please

And while we’re on that subject, make it lock on to aircraft. In it’s current state, it is useless as an anti-air weapon.

My suggestions:

Forge:

  • Several versions of forge objects (Covenant,Forerunner,UNSC etc.) Or at least different textures.
  • More natural and environmental objects such as trees, vegetation so you could create overgrown maps.
  • Asymmetrical objects are a must (So I can actually make a continuing circular staircase!)
  • More than the maximum of two lights please. And some more environmental objects like destroyed vehicles and scorch marks as this would more atmosphere to the maps.

Campaign:

  • I would like to see more from the perspective of the Covenant (something that made Halo 2 so great) , or if it is a Halo 3 sequel, then some levels should be playable as the elites as they fight the Covenant remnants maybe as the Arbiter since he is now like their leader.
  • The other half of the game could be about the Master Chief as he explores the forerunner planet.
  • Oh and no skirmishers please.

Multiplayer/Firefight:

  • More traditionally made maps (not forge ones) on the disc.
  • More desert, arctic maps.
  • Firefight characters, like in ODST so we can play as different characters instead of just sounding like them.
  • A flood firefight mode (like the ‘Flood Gulch’ map on Halo PC).

Thanks for reading, and 343 are awesome!

Dear 343,

I’ve been catching up on some of the stuff that’s been posted since I last posted, & I can’t believe some of the stuff that’s been posted. I’ve quoted this as an example of a broader issue – the no fun issue. There seems to be an alarming amount of people that want to take all the fun out of Halo: “get rid of new vehicles”, “get rid of certain weapons”, “Master chief only plot”, “bring back the BR”, “getting rid of griff-ball”, “Get rid of load outs”, etc. I’ll admit that the older games had their upsides, but by large Reach is an improvement in almost every manor over the other games with a few exceptions sighting technical (DLC never popping up, no join in progress, etc) & plot issues (paper thin). Please don’t get caught up in this kinda talk please…I don’t mind adding older elements…but not at the cost of sacrificing major advances in the franchise. The ranking system is fine, the game play is fine…Bungie made something beautiful…don’t soil it by being to serious. I’ll post a few new ideas I’ve had now that I’m done ranting.

Bring back the BR topic: I don’t mind bringing back old weapons, but not at the cost of getting rid of new ones. The DMR is an amazing gun, & frankly I don’t miss the BR from Halo 3 at all. In fact I don’t miss the multiplayer from Halo 3 a single bit…I miss some of the maps…but not the game-play: It was far too hard to kill people, everything felt floaty, & there weren’t enough diffrent styles of game-play. I’ll be the first to admit that I played more CoD:MW2 during the Halo 3 days…just because it felt more responsive. I think Reach was a perfect blend between the styles…as a resault I don’t play CoD anymore.

Get rid of load outs topic: This is a dumb idea…this is basically a response to the whole getting rid of new ideas topic. Load outs allow you to get the kinda armor equips you want with ease…rather than having to fight for them. I think getting rid of them would hurt the over all experience. If we all had to fight for all the different armor abilities…all the good ones would only go to the most skilled players…thus limiting the experience & strategy…I don’t mind fighting for power weapons or even advanced armor abilities…but I would find it very irritating to have to fight for everything. In face I wouldn’t mind taking the Load-outs a bit further ALA the Call of duty series & being able to pick your standard rifle (needle, DMR, BR, AR, etc) & side arm (Plasma Pistol & Magnum) right from the get go.

Halos failing narrative: I’ve said it before, & I’ll say it again…the series is spinning its wheels in terms of plot. Mainly because characters are never fully developed, leading to a massive inability to care for the characters your playing as. Master Cheif was the biggest “blank slate” or “stereotype” character I’ve ever seen…hell he’s worse than the CoGs from Gears of War!!! At least they have personalities!!! To know anything about John that makes him human you have to go looking threw the expanded lore…and even then there’s not too much to see. The story of the original trilogy was carried by the over all plot & supporting cast in my opinion…reaching its peak in Halo 2 with the story of the Arbiter…& its sad he was developed more than the chief given John was the main character…then thrown over bored in Halo 3. All these rumors about a Re-make of halo CE worry me…I don’t want more of the same crap. I want a more plot driven story, with a more developed cast ALA ODST. HELL ODST HAD A UNDERLINING LOVE STORY AT ITS CORE!!! And, if we’re going back to Master Cheif…for the love of god give him more characters to bounce off of & us more to play as. I want more of the ODSTS!!!

Bigger big teams: I don’t know why this hasn’t been done yet; moreover, I used to play PC shooters over dial up 10 years ago that doubled or tripled the player count compared to what we see today in Halo: Reach. We didn’t even have that much in the way of Lag (counter strike, tribes 2, Unreal, etc). Why can’t this be done on the 360!?! I’d also like to see more multi-man vehicles like the Falcon (my fave), & the Warthog…this kinda team work is very rewarding to me when its pulled off. I’ll copy & paste a few of my ideas from an old post on Bugie.net.

"My last comment would be that it would be nice to have more & different vehicles. It’s just we’ve had the same thing for near forever now, & some new editions would be great! If I may make a recommendation, I would include The HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL armor…or at least a less powerful prototype version (which would make sense given the time line). I think it would be awesome to have a mechanized suit armor, & it might be an idea to even just have it run out of fuel after a while…or over heat after a while forcing the pilot to eject or go down with the ship after a while. A powerful version could also turn the tide of battle for a team that’s really getting beat badly. Why is it so frail? I would also like to see a transport ship of some time, sort of like the ones in Tribes 2. Which mind you, Reach reminds me of tribes 2 in many a different way. Which isn’t a bad thing; moreover, Tribes 2 is still one of my favorite shooters to this day…and very few games have manged to tap into its magic since. It might be an idea to give the Covenant the Phantom, & like wise the human forces the Pelican. These units would be amazing in [http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Phantom]Invasion.

Outside of these few complaints, you have made an amazing game bungie! And in my opinion, is far better than Halo 3. I would also like to thank you for invasion, which in my opinion is an amazing. I think this mode could make the multilayer expedience in reach & I would like to see it expanded: new maps, new weapons, new objectives, & new vehicles to help it. Don’t be afraid to make the maps huge either, just add Vehicles to help cross the map. Look at this game for [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribes_2]inspiration. I think the ultimate goal of this mode would be to have multi-player experiences in single player style objective levels…cut scenes between objectives might be a good idea to help pull you into an epic feel of the game. If this can’t be addressed before launch, it would make an awesome DLC pack. you’ve done something great with Reach Bungie…don’t break it – kudos!!

Fix Fire Fight: I don’t know whats broken with it, but something is…it just lacks the magic it had back in ODST. Most of the maps in Reach aren’t defendable…which is a big problem…& some of the enemies are way too hard to kill on their own with out power weapons or a buddy (I’m looking at you elites). You guys should take a look at ODST’s firefight & Gears of Wars “Horde” for inspiration as they were done right. I can’t see anyone pulling off some of the old Fire-Fight Achievements from ODST (which we’re some of the best times I’ve had) without cheating in REACH. Speaking of…I’d love to see the Vid-Master achievements come back…they we’re usually the best way to tell who was good & who wasn’t. They weren’t impossible to get…but they were hard…& it did take team work…A LOT of it!!

Keep the fun: Sometimes after I get tired of killing people…or get tired of hearing smack talk from a 13 year old…diversions like Griff-Ball, Soccer, infection, various custom games & the like keep Halo alive for me. The Action Sack is an amazing addition …please keep it alive.

Thanks for your time!!,

I love Halo since I was 9 years old and playing LAN matches with my brother and all his friends. I want more of the core feeling of Halo back in the Halo games themselves. I want less Reach type game mechanics and more of the core Halo gameplay from Halo: CE, 2, and some of what 3 had.

^I disagree with the above statement…that crowd is a very small crowd. If you want a larger customer base, your going to have to keep the new elements from reach. The vast majority of gamers won’t want to play something as slow & unresponsive as the ealier Halos…hince why Call of Duty is at the top of the Major Nelsons activity list every week. Your going to shoot yourselves in the feet if you go along with this 343…

I don’t mean to argue, but your statements are very un-factual. For Halo: Reach they decreased movement speed, put on ALs and bloom and made vehicles virtual deathtraps. All of which slow down game play considerably.

In Halo: 2, you had nothing to worry about, just you your BR and the enemy. There wasn’t any equipment or AL’s, everything went according to plan without any random complications. Worrying less about what could happen let you focus, predict and adapt to whatever the opposition threw your way.
Nowadays you have to take into consideration that EVERYONE is unequal, thus closing the skill gap shut tight. Not unequal in a skill sense but in a random one.
This turned off many to Halo: 3, and even more to Reach. The fanbase you are talking about is non-existent, every thread and forum I’ve seen, read or just viewed would agree with what I am saying.

As far as feedback goes, I do have a tendency to go off on Fanon binges…relentlessly writing to my heart’s content. Most of it is fan game concepts based in the Halo universe, like how the main series could end, the fate of Master Chief, and Blue Team, etcetera, stuff like that. Some reason articles I wrote on Fanon Wiki: Halo: Revelation - which is sort of my take on Halo 4., and SPARTAN-010, Sierra Zero One Zero (Warning, long read) - He’s kind of like Noble Six. In the game itself he’s ambiguous, like Noble Six, I just filled in my personal backstory for the character.

These are just random thoughts rumbling around in my head I needlessly put down on paper (websites actually, well sometimes paper.)

To be honest, though, I really want to play as another Noble Six type character. Master Chief is great and all, but it makes the player feel diminished and left out if “we” don’t get another role in the Halo universe. Master Chief would be an awesome supporting character I think. Imagine playing alongside Blue Team, with Master Chief as the squad leader, and fighting alongside him and the other Spartans of Blue Team. That is all I really think needs work in campaign. Oh, and more armor options and such, go even more in depth, like attachments for shoulder pieces, or backpacks and other such miscellanea to wear on your Spartan’s back.

I never played Halo 2 Multi-player; however, I did play Halo 3’s. In Halo 3 I felt as if I was a moving tank in that game…it was very slow, & very hard to kill things given everyone had shields that were over powered. I just feel that Reach is a much better game than Halo 3 ever was.

> There wasn’t any equipment or AL’s, everything went according to plan without any random complications.

I can understand the need to have everything going according to plan, but there is something to be said for randomness. It keeps things fresh. Yes make a plan of action: know your maps, decide who will go for snipe or rocket launcher, who will be clutch and flag/bomb carrier, who will use AL, drop shield or sprint.

It seems to me that if these things are mastered than randomness would be kept to a minimum. Isn’t it still mostly about communication and good teamwork, just like in all the other Halo’s?

I feel that the addition of more types of enemies over the series has caused a law-of-unintended-consequences problem. I love all the different enemies. Sadly, as more enemies are added, I feel that each type makes fewer and fewer appearances. This is especially evident with Hunters, Engineers and Drones. I think a good solution would be to replace some of the Grunt encounters with tougher enemies on higher difficulties. That is to say, every now and then, when the player remembers seeing grunts in an area on Normal, surprise him with a pair of Hunters on Legendary.

I also feel that the vehicles are getting less time in the campaigns. Even if every vehicle level had additional distances to traverse, without much added combat, I’d be happy. The problem seems to be that the playable area in Reach has gotten less linear and generally smaller, as compared with other games in the series. Driving levels need lots of flat, open, linear terrain. ONI Sword Base, for example, was bumpy, curvy and small. I’d like more area to drive and explore. Levels like Halo (from CE), The Maw, Outskirts, and Uprising were very good examples of vehicle play.

Halo: ODST 2 someday?

> Halo: ODST 2 someday?

Uhmm…sorry but no. Halo 3 ODST’s campaign was right before Halo 3’s campaign how can they possible make a sequel? they cant.

It doesn’t take a lot to see what the man means, & yes it is possible to make another ODST game. It just has to feature the same characters wrapped up in a different mission or issue is all. It could just be Halo: ODST: “Insert title here”. It could take place during any of the Halo’s…I’m sure they were doing something during all of the different campagins.
