First time playing in about a week. Rock solid Internet 125d 20u 60ms and gigabit home network. First arena game loading match and it says " You firearm has changed. Returning to the Main Menu. Seconds later an 8 minute and 45 second ban out of nowhere. Second arena game just started and maybe a minute into it same “LEFT FIRETEAM” message and a 19 minute ban. Three or so matches later, we won and seconds later same “LEFT FIRETEAM” message and a 40 minute ban. This has never happened before and it is really annoying. Same thing happened in my first War zone match minutes away from victory… this is really poor quality… again, never happened in my 13 years of Live membership.
Happened to me this morning around 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. I would gladly pay a few bucks more a month to 343 to not have these issues.
I keep getting banned from Arena. All I play is grif ball and swat, but I’ll be playing grif and charging at an enemy when a team mate charges in at the same time, which ends in my killing a team mate. I think it’s kinda bogus because it happens almost purely on accident. I’m gonna be honest though, if a game of grif ball is progressing no where because of my team mates, I wouldn’t hesitate to eliminate them to keep the ball rolling, but that happens very rarely. My past two bans were because of my team mates rushing into the same enemy, sometimes team killing ME too. I really like grif ball but I’m getting banned for the team’s mistakes. This is not how I like to take one for the team. Any way I can get unbanned?
Haven’t played in 4 days. Play a game of FFA Swat. Quit. Play one game of Arena CTF. Win. Back to menu screen, BANNED! What the HELL!!. Something wrong with the ban system. Never been banned before.
Ok I have a few MAJOR problems not only with the idea of the banhammer and with the way some of you are acting.
1)For all of you who seem to think the banhammer is justified and good let’s all remember: this is a game. A game is meant to be played to have fun, it’s not school or work where there are a tremendous amount of rules to follow or a “punishment” will be received. I can choose to play however I wish. For all of those that look up folks gaming records and say something stupid like “4 DNFs in your last 10 games BRAAAAAH” well my response would be “That is how I choose to play the game.” Why? Because I place value on my time, I have a job and go to school, when I play Halo I refuse to play 1 or 2 on 4…I refuse to stay 12 minutes in a game with so much lag we are telporting around the board. If you have SO much time that you are able to wait these things out and then troll this board to advise people they had 20-40% DNF’s in their last 10 games then maybe you need a job, or a wife? Maybe purchase a home so you have yard work or improvements to make? My main point is when did we start taking Halo SO TREMENDOUSLY SERIOUS that we ban people for quitting or for being bad and betraying/commiting suicide? Serious 343 get over yourselves.
2)I paid for this game. I paid for all my games and guess what? I can do whatever the hell I want in them…because I gave money for a product. What’s worse in this scenario is I had to pay multiple times to be told when I can play this game: for the console, for the xbox live services, and then for the game itself. I can;t think of ANY other products, even products that include interacting with other who have the product, that would ban me for being a poor user of the product. Maybe a firearm…343…is Halo as serious as a firearm? If I paid for the game, I can quit, it’s really as easy as that. All you angels who talk about how many DNFs I have, argue with that logic. Think about buying a watch from Rolex…and you take it off at your desk every day, is Rolex going to come and ban you from wearing it for 2 days because of your early quitting? Nope. You will argue and say that I am infringing on your online experience, but…is your online experience PLAYING A VIDEO GAME important enough to snub a consumer who paid for a product, to then pay for an online service, and then who paid for the game itself? No -Yoink-. It’s not. Face it…you playing Halo is not that important…so yeah I quit that 2 on 4 game. Eat -Yoink-.
Also I would like to point out. I quit a game today. Banned for 43 minutes. I have 3 DNFs in last 70 games.
For all idiots…that is 4%.
Punishing a player who paid for your game for 43 minutes…based on a 4% DNF rate in their last 70 games? Pathetic.
My Warzone and Arena games have been crashing repeatedly and sending me back to the waiting screen, but I have not, nor will I ever quit a game. I’ve been banned now because of Halo 5’s horrible servers. Thanks Microsoft.

Yea I came here for the same reason as you.
I literally just started an Arena game of Grifball only to crash immediately and restart the whole effing game. When I log back in I get a ban message saying I quit to many times. I never once pressed the ‘Leave Game’ option. This has happened way more then once.
So Microsoft, 343, or whoever is in charge, your crappy servers got me banned. This is getting to the point I don’t even wanna support your company/products anymore.
Banning me for team kills in Griff ball is ridiculous!
I understand the need for this, do not get me wrong. But if one could understand…in Grifball…these things happen. It is as unavoidable as death. So could I ask that either team killing, or being removed/banned from the game be eradicated, please? The latter being the simple solution, yes…but the former could rightly correct the whole issue. Now, as a creature of balance, I’m sure this would most likely not go unnoticed in that regard. So as for a few alternatives, I offer: 1 kill counter lost on a grading scale for each team kill, up to ten then boot/ban; 1 kill counter lost and points equal to kill lost from overall score; and…if absolutely necessary, just increase the amount of betrayals required to ban to say, 10. The problem is, at it’s current rate, and considering the fast-pace action that Grifball provides in and of itself, the required reaction times are too fast. Someone dies, they’re trying to get right back into the action. A screen pops up, they’re immediately going to button-smash in order to clear it, even if it is asking not only to involve them in a game issue, but relying on them to solve it. The thought-reaction time just isn’t there. But please, as an honest gamer who knows what accidental betrayals truly are, I implore you to consider this post.
So i got banned for betraying in grifball. Screw this game.

Everything in this. Im done with halo and 343. They catered to the casual market in h4 and now they over catered to the competitve crowd. 343 has no idea what they are doing or even how to make a game fun. The ban hammer has not solved anything. All it has done is kill any reason to bother playing this -Yoink- game.

There is NO need for this. The amount of good players on ANY previous Halo game always out-weighed the bad players. Think back, were there so many quitters that games were IMPOSSIBLE? Nope. They weren’t. W eall need to stop pretending that every dumb arena game we play in is Major League Gaming. It’s not. And MLG is stupid. If my child ever says “My dream is to be a pro gamer, I’m quitting everything to pursue it!” I will slap him across his sweet face and send him to Military Boarding School.

…what did that have to do with what I wrote? You sound like you’re just complaining because you get into games that end up getting too tough for you, so you quit. I see no correlation between the two topics.

> The following FAQ should answer some of your questions about Halo 5 bans. We will update this FAQ as necessary.
>
> I received an in-game message saying I have been banned. Why?
> If you are checking this page because of an in-game message, it is likely that you have been banned for violating the terms of use and/or committing a code of conduct violation. It is also possible, in the case of an especially egregious violation, that your Xbox One system itself is now banned from Matchmaking. The duration of this ban is based on the type, frequency or nature of the committed violation. In most cases, Custom Games will still be available. In extreme cases, they will not.
>
> How can I tell how long I was banned for?
> Ban duration will be shown on the red ban screen as the ban hammer strikes. First offences are generally low and last only a few minutes, but will increase in duration incrementally with each subsequent ban. The ban timer itself displays times as follows - Days : Hours : Minutes : Seconds
>
> What types of actions can result in a ban?
> Types of violation include, but are not limited to, the following example actions:
>
> - Modifying your Xbox One hardware or game software and services in any way.
> - Idling through games, habitual quitting/suiciding/betraying, or any other type of unsociable and unsportsmanlike behavior.
> - Impersonating a 343 Industries or Microsoft employee on Xbox LIVE with intent to defraud or cause harm to other players.
> I shouldn’t be banned. My brother/sister/cousin/dad/mom/friend must’ve logged on with my account and done bad things. Will you please reverse my ban?
> If this is indeed the case, we do understand your frustration. However, it is your sole responsibility to keep your account information secure and not share it with others who would abuse it. We have no way of detecting who is playing with your account, and if your gamertag is caught making naughty, you will be banned. Those are the rules.
>
> I didn’t do anything wrong, and you can’t prove it. Will you please reverse my ban?
> Our automated system builds up a digital case of wrongdoing before any ban is enacted. If you accidentally disconnect a time or two, you won’t get banned. Instead the system looks for patterns that can’t happen accidentally. If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong.
>
> Will posting in this thread guarantee my ban will be lifted and that someone will respond personally to every post?
> Unfortunately, no. We simply don’t have enough eyes, ears and typing hands to respond to every single post. However, the community will help keep you honest. You have a public game history for everyone to see. If you post you were banned unjustly, the community is in their rights to check out your history to confirm or deny your claims. Please, just keep it clean.
>
> The purpose of this thread is to keep all questions pertaining to bans in one place. Without a megathread for such questions, the rest of the forum will almost certainly turn into a cavalcade of ban questions.
>
> If you were banned and think you have a case, this is the ONLY thread you should post in. If other moderators see posts pertaining to bans in other threads, they will either be deleted outright or a kind-hearted mod might just move the posts to this thread.
>
> If any users are caught habitually spamming ban threads in other threads, we will consider that a violation of the forum Terms of Use. You will risk being banned here as well. We don’t want to have to ban anyone, but we do want an open, honest and positive place to post about all things Halo, so a thread like this is necessary.

this doesnt answer my question. why is it i get banned for leaving one game? ONE GAME!
I was playing for an hour of non - stop play and when one of my swat games ended I got hit with a 17 min ban hammer for joining games and idling! I was playing the games not idling, and now I’be lost the refs that I got from both the game and the boost I used. Does anyone have a solution for this?
Umm yeah 343 all the people I know get banned after leaving one game and how is that fair if it’s four on one? And today my connection broke and now I’m banned for EIGHT HOURS. We all bought this game and pay to play online. It’d be cool if something would be done

I’m still on a 24 hour ban…and I have no idea what I did…I had just gotten out of a game, after being wrongfully banned, and in the middle of the next game, I hadn’t done anything wrong…but BAM, I get kicked out and put on a 24 hour ban. There is something seriously wrong with all of this, 343. You have issues you need to resolve IMMEDIATELY. Because this has now gotten to the point of being utterly ridiculous.
I was banned while playing grifball…SERIOUSLY fix your automated system, this is -Yoink!- off alot of paying customers. Especially GRIFBALL it’s almost impossible not to betray someone. Grifball shouldn’t be included and then to ban from all playlists because of that? Fact of the matter is your automated system is not perfect and has done this to me twice already. I’ve been betrayed countless times.
So I was playing a game of FFA SWAT. I’m a beginner, so I wasn’t used to the map. I kept constantly missing jumps and killing myself. It was frustrating, but I’m just starting out and getting used to the new map. However I was then kicked out of the game and issued a temporary ban.
Now I’ll accept my ban, I wasn’t thinking things through very well. I kind of like how strict the ban system is. I remember in the Halo 3 days we had a lot of betrayals and quitters. But this system helps weed them out. It is very frustrating that I can’t play arena though.
