The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

Offering people the option to leave the game while punishing them after they do so is entrapment.

Banning people with absolutely no proof they’ve done wrong, while appealing to a “digital case” is laughable, negligent, and borderline fraud.

Okay okay, so recently (last week or so) I have been banned from Arena a total of 4 times. 4 -Yoink!- times. First for 5 minutes, then 15, then 45 and I’ve just been banned again with no time limit given.

What’s annoying the hell out of me is that I’M BEING BANNED FOR NO REASON. The first two times I was banned from Arena AFTER COMPLETING A MATCH, not for quitting out. I completed the match as normal, the final cutscene of the winning team plays. The game backs out to the post game lobby and I see the carnage report (all normal). It then boots me out of the intermission stage and back to the playlist selection menu. It then gives me a notification saying I’ve been banned. It is important to note that I was playing SWAT, so I wasn’t team-killing or suiciding or idling or anything like that. Banned twice.

The third time I disconnected ‘A problem with the Halo 5: Guardians servers’, so I assume that was my connection, and I ate the ban for 45 minutes.

The fourth and most recent time, the reason I am writing this salty af Forum post. I was just having a casual game of Grifball, just chilling out. I pick up the ball and I’m running around trying to avoid getting a sword to the face. All of a sudden I can’t move, and lose control of my spartan and a red notification pops up over the screen saying ‘There was an issue with the Halo 5: Guardians lobby service’ and it boots me back to the main menu without any warning. CUE FOURTH BAN AND RAGE.

This is serious annoying the hell out of me I like playing arena more than Warzone because it’s way, way more competitive. I’m trying to climb up through Onyx but my progress is being impeded by needless uncalled for bans. And every time I get banned it’s for a larger amount of time. Who even knows how long I’m banned for now. And the next one will probably be a -Yoink- day.

SORT THIS OUT I’VE NEVER BEEN BANNED BEFORE AND I’VE EATEN FOUR IN THE LAST FEW DAYS FOR NO ADEQUATELY EXPLAINED REASON.

343i, I really like where Halo 5 is going. The new direction is great and I’m all for regular fresh content it keeps me coming back. BUT THIS KIND OF STUFF PUSHES ME AWAY. Sort the system out ffs because it breaks my friggin’ heart to have to scold such a shoddy system like this in a game I like so much.

I’m getting to the point where I’m aprehensive to go into Arena because I’m gonna get banned again and I don’t want that punishment to rise.

Please stop this.

I was banned for quitting a single match. Before this instance, I was banned for: accidentally “splattering” a single spartan with a Wraith, having spotty internet and lagging out of 3 matches in 35 minutes, ground pounding a single spartan in Breakout, and having a grenade stuck to me then accidentally blowing both myself and my nearby teammate up. (each of these instances are separate and I was banned for each one) I understand that you all are working hard, but I have been banned numerous times with nearly no reason. I love your games (I even played some on a friend’s console while my parents wouldn’t let me) and I have always tried to conduct myself in an appropriate manner, but the banhammer is far too heavy. This game is becoming a nuisance rather than a joy simply because I cannot play it without the fear that I will go for a kill on the enemy team and will accidentally throw a grenade onto my teammate. I know you all pride yourselves in your games, but please do something about this. I have so much fun, but it is ever so agitating to not be able to play a game for reasons that do not exist.

My apologies for taking up this forum’s space and time, but I needed to get my two-cents in.

Just got an 8 hour ban for getting put into a Grifball match on Skylark that was already in progress. Literally every time I join a match on that map late, I spawn inside the walls and end up getting constant suicides. Well this time, the lovely game decided to kick me out after 3 suicides and give me an 8 hour ban. I can’t even control whether or not I get JIP’d or playing on a map that’s actually broken, yet the banhammer gets me.
I mean, come on. Most of my DNF’s are because of disconnects or -Yoink- like this happening. I haven’t serially quit since I got Halo 5.
Edit: Never mind. As soon as I posted this, the ban was lifted. Huh.

You’re an idiot. The question still was not answered as to why it locked the playlist. It is STILL locked to this day. Also, getting kicked out of the game isn’t MY fault.

Just checking. In New Zealand my internet is fast and I have never had problems with any of my games no matter how many people are on. My question is how does one revive a 3…yes 3 day ban for a first offence. I watched my son on his games and yes he did betray the same person twice when tossing a grenade full map, yes he did get kicked… he then proceeded to wait to connect for another game…20 min later still no luck… next minute his ban appeared. Now I have had this game since release and have never had issues in the past but for this is crap… if I pay good money for a game that uses a ban hammer surely there should be a list that states what the ban was for in the first place.
I love playing Halo as does my boys and I have no issue concerning using bans but its frustrating that bans can happen through no fault of your own. A warning of what the issue is or was would be good. That way people have a chance of correcting or just logging off for awhile.
This happen to my sons GT not mine.

> oh my God I’m beginning to believe it’s just crappy server says I’m banned for 16 hours and literally the second I posted my last post on here I look at my screen and press A and my ban is lifted guarantee right now I’m going to go play a match no misconduct is going to ban me right after
> now I feel very sorry for my language and these two posts because the 16-hour band went away

Perhaps it was 16 minutes.
The banhammer is known to have a delay of atleast one match. So you do not get banned for a match you win.

People are free to leave when thet want. However as stated by the rules in the game, excessive quitting etc will br punished.
If I’m not mistaken, i343 can ban anyone for no reason at all. That is how I understood the ToU, the thing you sign.

Probably because it most likely isn’t a banhammer issue, atleast not on its own. I have never heard of a single playlist being locked. If you can’t find more cases like yours I’d suggest taking it directly to an employee.
It may as well not be your fault but as stated, excessive disconnects are punishable. I also pointed out three DNFs in your Team Arena matches leading up to the last one, with more prior to those three.
Edit: Didn’t you say it didn’t give you a rank, no matter how many matches you played?

Three day bans don’t happen for a first time offense. Seems like your son has betrayed/suicidee/ DNF a lot an been banned in the past

I’m not banned, but this kinda relates to this thread I guess.
I moved on 6th of February and as such have much better internet, I’d like my connection history reset to that time if possible. I don’t disconnect if my roommate uses YouTube anymore xD

Where can I turn in data for Xbox live linked bans?

Hey if it’s a bad connection then you should do some trouble shooting with your internet, being 16 and all you should know all about I.T and routers and stuff, if not contact your I.S.P and go through trouble shooting with them.
On the subject of leaving a game and “Who care’s?” well if I was on your team and you quit half way through by being stomped on I and the other members of the team would be Yoinked at you, great way to let your team mates down!!!
Oh and I would suggest looking at your service history for maybe one of the reasons why you have been banned, you have a lot of DNF’s and a few consecutive DNF’s, it states entering into matchmakeing that going AFK/betraying and habitual quiting/disconects will get you banned, I could list all your DNF’s but at the moment but I can’t be bothered.
TLDR: You know why you have been banned, you agreed to 343i terms on matchmaking, if you don’t like it or don’t like the consequences stop playing the game.

I was banned because I kept accidentally killing playing in grifball! It’s not like it was intentional, the gravity hammer hits the entire area and will ultimately lead to team mate deaths. Someone please help? I don’t know how long I’m band for. It just said 8.24,

If this is the first time being banned or 2nd or 3rd most likley 8 minutes and 24 seconds

I was banned for eight hours. I did leave my match and I accept my punishment. I have no intentions of quiting anytime soon as all I wish to do is play Halo 5. That being said, I have been banned for lagging out before but I understand the Banhammer is not perfect. My question is when will my ban go back to minutes instead of hours or even days? Does it reset after a certain amount of time and good behavior or if I lag out three months from now will I be banned more severe? I just wish more info was available so I would feel not need to worry about what I might accidently do later on down the road.

from the information I have read from the monitors the “timer” does not go back to minutes, although I am hopefull that after a “long long long time” it might ease up, can one of the monitors confirm or deny please, I think alot of people in this thread would like to know.

Wow…I just played two games of Grifball and got booted first game for what I assume was me killing a teammate by accident…let that go and jumped back into another match and got banned. Really don’t get it…I’m not a rough neck player. I’ve been playing Halo for many years and have not been banned before. Something does not seem right about what just happened. In no way was I gunning for my teammates. Is there something glitched with game tonight…or is boot / ban sensitivity extreme?

…ok, ban is gone…guess it was short, but I’m afraid to play the game anymore…especially Grifball…where accidental team kills comes along with the game. After reading posts…this seems to be a real concern to other players who feeI they were punished unfairly. I lost two legendary XP reqs over it too. BIG Halo fan but wow…I feel wronged for playing a game I love…
