The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

I’m assuming you wanted to link this game. Not sure what you’re trying to point out here since it looked like an even match. The player who quit on their team also seemed to be a low gold in overall skill level.

the previous link doesn’t work anymore. It was just a funny welcome, however i have played a lot today avoiding any other risky bannable stuff, i just wanna play and grind xp

I think I played with you this morning in some snipps, anyways, congratulations on the unban sir!!!

I’ve just received a 126d ban for “ruining the fun of others” but am no sure what I’ve done. Any possible offense would be my first regardless and the duration is seriously steep. I would really like to know what the exact reasoning behind my ban is and what has to happen to get it appealed because I do enjoy playing team snipers while it’s out.

Hi there,

It appears I have been banned for an unknown amount of time for DNFs. I have connection issues with my controller where it will sometimes disconnect and needs the battery taken out, put back in and repaired to work again. I don’t mind waiting it out but considering the fact that it doesn’t specify the length I just came here. Would appreciate a response and a lift if possible.

Edit: Never mind, it seems it has fixed itself.

Thanks.

A ban of this length occurs when people derank or play with derankers. Derankers are people who play terribly on an account on purpose in order to get a low skill rating, leading them to matchmake against opponents who are actually alot weaker than them. Then, once they’ve qualified in a ranked playlist, the derankers start playing normally, thereby completely stomping their weaker opponents since they tricked the system into thinking that they were just as bad. Deranking is a form of matchmaking manipulation, which is against the ToS. Similarly, people who play several matches with a deranker also share the punishment, as they benefited from the manipulation and did not use common sense to notice that something was off.

In your case, it looks like you played several games with a few different smurfs/derankers.

Yes I’ve played with smurf accounts, played on smurf accounts, and against smurf accounts. It’s often the only way I can find games in team snipers. As I would never throw a game or attempt to hide my skill level, that tells me the ban is a result from playing with my friends who could have potentially deranked during their placements. However in the many years that I’ve played halo 5 I have never been banned before, asked anyone to derank for me(I’ve been deranked by many people which is another story) or all around attempted to cheat the system. 126 days is an astoundingly steep punishment for something that I was not aware I would be punished for especially so severely. The only thing I’d like to do is to continue to play team snipers while it is out and try not to ruin anyone else’s experience. Now that I know what I have to do to avoid doing that it certainly won’t be happening again. Will there be any way to use this as a warning for a first time offender or is halo 5 just done now for the next 126 days and however long it takes team snipers to return after that?

Checking Enforecement’s logs, it looks like it was more than just that, it was also using alt accounts to quit out of matches intentionally so the CSR update would be more in the favor of your team.

Several alts were used consistently for only quitting out of matches and quit out of almost every match they played in your matches, and they were in your party.

Enforcement classifies this as leaderboard boosting which carries a much harsher penalty than deranking. The original penalty for this back in H2/H3/Reach was a lifetime ban from the game. Enforcement has decided to reduce this to a season ban, though they will double the length if it happens again.

I acknowledge the mistake that’s been made and while I had no intention of leaderboard boosting or benefiting in any way from having one less team mate I also understand the need for this to be enforced. I appreciate that the ban length has already been reduced from a lifetime duration but I’d really like to know if it’s at all possible to get it appealed or at the very least reduced more-so. With it being the holiday season I was very much looking forward to being able to play with all my friends with the abundance of free time we’ll have. Cheating the system in any way isn’t something I take pleasure in and regardless of the ban being upheld it’s not something I’ll partake in again. I wasn’t aware of the consequences of my actions and now that I am I will be sure to avoid making the same mistake. Is there any way at all for this to be reversed by resetting my rank or simply removing the ban with the acknowledgment that a second offense will result in an even more steep punishment? Please let me know if anything can be done at all. Thank you and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Yo why was I banned? ix Bravo xi… no explanation

I’m not gonna lie bro I hope you get unban but from experience the admins and mods won’t unban you  Hope you do though I miss playing halo 5

If that’s the case how was I banned for 200 days? I haven’t quit out of games, I haven’t ‘Leaderboard boosted’ I was simply tricked into playing in a fireteam with someone who I had never met before who was de-ranking.
Which subsequently ruined my life.

I’m relatively new to the online scene on Halo 5 and started playing Social Arena about a month ago and learned the consequences of being banned (Since I was banned about 4 times I believe.) I have learned my lesson to not quit matches, but if I may ask, is there a way to steer clear of a ban, like quitting a match for a good reason once a week or something along those lines? Just asking in case I run into a problem relating to leaving a game.

Quitting for any reason risks a ban. There is no “good” reason to quit. If you only quit every once in awhile and don’t make a pattern of it, then your risk for triggering a ban should remain low. However, quitting is never encouraged, and even if you quit once a week, the system could still eventually ban you. Just try not to quit unless you absolutely have to. And if you catch a ban for quitting, well, hopefully the reason you quit was important.

If that’s the case after this season refresh, why am I still banned? I’m not a champ and I have never played like a champ - unfortunately.
As it seems like the people who are actually champs get a different set of rules.
I never knew I was playing with a de-ranker and I never knew that it was one of my fireteams intention to get that guy in the fireteam on purpose.
It was said he is on our friends list I’ve never had him on my friends list or even met him before.
As of today it’s been 80 days since my ban, and I have 120 more days left to go. I cannot last that long, unfortunately like the others that were banned with me I cannot afford a new Xbox to play on new accounts.
I’ve asked if there is anyone else I can speak to regarding this ban and I have been ignored, there’s no way of contacting 343 except from this forum which is flawed.
Please please help me, I’m begging now.

Thanks bud but I doubt they’ll unban me as well. Apparently they banned Vetoed for 14 days for something far less egregious. I accept the ban and that they don’t over turn it but what’s a bit questionable is all of the people involved in my ban are also guilty of having people throw on the opposite teams to boost them and they’re still loving playing the game every second. Reported one of them to the moderator here with no reply and I have a list of many more gamer tags that do this. There’s just not very much consistency in the whom they choose to ban.

With everyone boosting how are you supposed to know how you roughly measure up against others? Maxed 1704CSR on slayer found myself slapping 100+ higher CSR players. Are they boosting? Who knows. I hope Infinite has a better less exploitable system, cause anybody serious about rank on h5 no doubt knows all the loopholes by now

100% loving being ignored.
