> The following FAQ should answer some of your questions about Halo 5 bans. We will update this FAQ as necessary.
>
> I received an in-game message saying I have been banned. Why?
> If you are checking this page because of an in-game message, it is likely that you have been banned for violating the terms of use and/or committing a code of conduct violation. It is also possible, in the case of an especially egregious violation, that your Xbox One system itself is now banned from Matchmaking. The duration of this ban is based on the type, frequency or nature of the committed violation. In most cases, Custom Games will still be available. In extreme cases, they will not.
>
> How can I tell how long I was banned for?
> Ban duration will be shown on the red ban screen as the ban hammer strikes. First offences are generally low and last only a few minutes, but will increase in duration incrementally with each subsequent ban. The ban timer itself displays times as follows - Days : Hours : Minutes : Seconds
>
> What types of actions can result in a ban?
> Types of violation include, but are not limited to, the following example actions:
>
> - Modifying your Xbox One hardware or game software and services in any way.
> - Idling through games, habitual quitting/suiciding/betraying, or any other type of unsociable and unsportsmanlike behavior.
> - Impersonating a 343 Industries or Microsoft employee on Xbox LIVE with intent to defraud or cause harm to other players.
> I shouldnāt be banned. My brother/sister/cousin/dad/mom/friend mustāve logged on with my account and done bad things. Will you please reverse my ban?
> If this is indeed the case, we do understand your frustration. However, it is your sole responsibility to keep your account information secure and not share it with others who would abuse it. We have no way of detecting who is playing with your account, and if your gamertag is caught making naughty, you will be banned. Those are the rules.
>
> I didnāt do anything wrong, and you canāt prove it. Will you please reverse my ban?
> Our automated system builds up a digital case of wrongdoing before any ban is enacted. If you accidentally disconnect a time or two, you wonāt get banned. Instead the system looks for patterns that canāt happen accidentally. If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong.
>
> Will posting in this thread guarantee my ban will be lifted and that someone will respond personally to every post?
> Unfortunately, no. We simply donāt have enough eyes, ears and typing hands to respond to every single post. However, the community will help keep you honest. You have a public game history for everyone to see. If you post you were banned unjustly, the community is in their rights to check out your history to confirm or deny your claims. Please, just keep it clean.
>
> The purpose of this thread is to keep all questions pertaining to bans in one place. Without a megathread for such questions, the rest of the forum will almost certainly turn into a cavalcade of ban questions.
>
> If you were banned and think you have a case, this is the ONLY thread you should post in. If other moderators see posts pertaining to bans in other threads, they will either be deleted outright or a kind-hearted mod might just move the posts to this thread.
>
> If any users are caught habitually spamming ban threads in other threads, we will consider that a violation of the forum Terms of Use. You will risk being banned here as well. We donāt want to have to ban anyone, but we do want an open, honest and positive place to post about all things Halo, so a thread like this is necessary.

> Thanks in advance!
This is ridiculous, 343 ban hammer should be able to detect actual violation of agreed terms. There was no reason I shouldāve been banned today. I finished a game of breakout; as soon as the last team cinematic started I was pulled out of the game and was banned for over 8 hours. I bookmarked the game. You can clearly see Iāve done nothing wrong. Yet you say thereās nothing you can do. The ban hammer is faulty and clearly needs work. This was not worth my money or my time. 343s faulty dedicated servers/ban hammer/matchmaking are all faulty. But all you can say is thereās nothing you can do. Iām honestly getting sick of this.
Just was banned after quitting my first game and completing my second, I have no clue why Iāve quit MAYBE 5 matches since launch. This is -Yoinking!- -Yoink-, it said my connection was lost and banned me immediately. Take my ban off I support the ban hammer but this was completely unfounded
I am getting really tired and fed up with Halo 5ās banning system I logged onto Halo 5 for the first time in a while quit one game, finished a second, then got banned for 5 hours. A notification popped up saying I lost connection to the server after the matched had ended while I was in the lobby searching for a new match then a second notification came up saying I had been banned for 5 hours.
I do not know when exactly did this start, but after a few week of not touching online multiplayer and playing solo campaign. I went to the arena a message saying a ban is in effect under each game type. I never received the ban hammer message and i have a perfect record with the Xbox live policy & enforcement page. Not only am I banned by my sister who just made an 2 months ago with around 10 matches logged and completed is also being prevented from playing and there is no indication of how long the ban is. I canāt seem to determine the reason as to why I am banned for good behavior and no incidents. I wish to resolve these issues like everyone else in the same boat.
Editorās note: The issue has been resolved somehow after tweaking my network wifi, still dont understand how i was banned from matchmaking
Hereās the issue with arena in halo 5: being banned for no reason. Iāve been banned countless times because Iāve apparently lost connection at the very end of the match. And every time Iāve been banned for 5 hours, thatās right 5 hours for apparently losing connection. I just want to enjoy the arena the way it is without this struggle. It makes me slowly move away from the whole game itself. Rainbow 6 siege even has a better banning system and doesnāt ban you for this nonsense. Ever time I even win a match this is the sake case. I win and right when the screen goes black at the end of the match, I spontaneously lose connection to the game and get banned for an absurd amount of time. 343 if youāre seeing this, you gotta fix this ASAP
I just got banned for 8 hours. At the end of a match it said the server disconnected yet i was STILL in the lobby -_- Im on the verge of not playing again if this ban isnāt lifted.
I got banned for 9 hours today and to be perfect honest itās the last straw on s long road of problems with this game, check my match history for dnf, they are very few and far between and not always my fault. I have been lagged out many times and backed out of Matchmaking and see myself sitting in lobby while it says still searching and puts me into a match in a random playlist while Iām at the toilet then kicks me from that match and bans me for 9 hours⦠Literally done giving 343i my money.
I GOT BANNED FOR NO REASON ON MY MAIN ACCOUNT WHICH IS A LEVEL 146
I GOT A CONNECTION LOST ERROR AT THE END OF A GAME AND IT SAID I GOT BANNED WITH NO DATE OF WHEN I AM GOING TO BE UNBANNED.
PLEASE REPLY
PLEASE READ I got banned for connection lost at the end of a game and i have no timer or time of when i will be unbanned. Iām not sure what happened but iām a very high level and would appreciate being unbanned. PLEASE REPLY TO ME
I keep getting the āBanhammer Strikesā after I finish a full match without disconnection. I finished the match and am still banned for an hour, is there any way to solve this?
I may have quit a total of 5 games out of the 445 games Iāve played. I quit one game today and was banned. I think I may have lost my connection at the end of the second game because it never showed the end game results. It just popped up with a message saying connection lost, then it immediately said I was banned. This is ridiculous. You would think they could do a much better job of watching if someone is actually quitting or not. It may have only been for 13 minutes, but it still sucks. Especially when you only want to get a few games in before going to bed. Been playing online matchmaking since Halo 2. Was never banned even once in Halo 2,3, Reach, or 4. Been banned twice in Halo 5. That should tell you something about how banning is handled in Halo 5.
Yesterday, one quit, next game disconnects at the and got 8 hours⦠For one quit, ban rules says repeated quitting.
Today, again after i got enough from many 3v4 and 2v4 games in slayer, i quit from a game. Next game disconnects and got 24 hours for one simple quit. Again ban rules says āfor repeated quittingā.
Last season, if i quitted from a game anytime, for example one quit on monday and one quit on sunday, i got immediate banā¦
Thatās simply nonsense⦠Even theese long term bans for a simple quit.
Quit once for the first time in 3 -Yoinking!- days (and the DNF 3 days ago was because the god -Yoink!- server kicked me out before a game) and I am banned for 51 -Yoinking!- minutes? I got -Yoink- to do and I want to play Halo 5, fix your broken -Yoink- banning system and make it like reach where it -Yoinking!- WARNS YOU THAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO BE BANNED.
> 2728296738565634;535:
> ive been banned serveral times, for no apparent reason. If the server disconnects me after the game than why am i punished
YES EXACTLY!!! Why the -Yoink- are we getting punished when the servers boot us. -Yoink!- 343, please fix this -Yoink-. I could be using my time to play halo 5 but no im banned. Maybe this is why Halo 5ās population is so damn low.

> ive been banned serveral times, for no apparent reason. If the server disconnects me after the game than why am i punished
If you arenāt then quiters would just disconnect their internet so they can avoid a ban, its not your fault you have to deal with the ban but neither is it 343s they are just trying to keep quitting from happening and sadly youāre caught in the crossfire
