The best way I find around the whole getting banned thing in arena… Is I’ve just stopped playing since the matchmaking system for some reason always matched me against players with incredibly higher skill level than I am and I’m not into paying for a game to get farmed. It’s gotten so bad now that I only play Warzone, but not solo and the one group I play with is so busy with Fortnite that I rarely even get a chance to play anymore. I’ve even noticed a suspicious trend with the AI in WZFF that I struggle to load a game of that. I actually cancelled my live account because it was so bad and the only reason I have this Xbox is to play Halo. But a friend who was unknowing of my struggles with the game, as a gift bought me the promo 3 month Gold with 3 free extra months. So I’m not as stressed now that I have these 6 months free. I join from time to time to see if it’s fixed and Im finding it’s just getting worse and worse.
Anyways, point is. You can’t get banned if you don’t play the game.
I have been refunded my money because I refuse to pay for a game that won’t let me play it. I started playing multiplayer games last week, have been banned twice in that time. once for 24 hours, and again for 36 hours. I don’t do “unsociable” things, I play, I have wins, I try not to kill team mates. I’m also a father and get distracted once in a while to deal with family things, so I’ve “abandoned” a couple of games, but nowhere near enough to justify auto-banning. Anyhow, getting my money back because this auto-ban nonsense is garbage. If other players feel I should be banned, they should be allowed to ban me individually if they feel I’m “misbehaving”, but the system-generated bans are absurd.

Under normal circumstances doing this once will not cause a ban. You have several DNF’s on your record. The system looks for patterns, re idling, griefing, suicides betrayals. You have obviously have committed some of these to cause your ban. Just wait it out, and try not to do these things again.
I was playing Slayer and everyone quit on the team I was playing against except one guy so I got up to feed the dogs and make some eggs and bakey. In this time I was killed a few times. I was kicked out of the game and now I am banned. Can you please reinstate my account. Thank you.

It’s an automated process. You admit you were idle in the match. It detected you were idle for more than three minutes, booted, and banned you the way it was intended to do.
So what if I have something important I need to do IRL all of a sudden while playing and I need to leave… I can’t quit, and I can’t just let the game play while I go handle my personal business. I don’t want to be unsportsmanlike but sometimes you just have to get up and do stuff in the middle of the game. I paid for the game, I don’t want to be unable to play it just because im idle or I quit games because I have matters I need to tend to. As long as banning for these types of offenses remain reasonable in length then I’ll be ok, I just don’t want to get Perma-banned for being idle.

Idling is against the rules. If you idle you’ll get banned.

I’ve never heard of someone getting a permaban for idling, but if you keep getting banned you can eventually rack up bans that last multiple days.
If you’ve got emergencies popping up so often during your game time that you are getting banned for it, you may need to reconsider when you game. Obviously real world issues take precedent, and it’s not like we wouldn’t expect a firefighter to immediately stop playing and go do their job. But not every idler/quitter is a firefighter. The game doesn’t know why you idle/quit; it just knows that you idle/quit. There is no way to determine if you idle/quit for “legitimate” reasons or not, so it must all be treated the same. The game doesn’t know if you’re idling because your baby woke up, you’re about to poop yourself, or you just decided to try and farm XP by rubberbanding your controller. And if there were some sort of survey that asked “why did you quit or idle this game?”, everyone would just chose the most legit answer to avoid punishment. The only way to discourage that behavior is to punish it indiscriminately.
Okay so I believe I received a indefinite ban for warzone, and this is my first offense. I went to go get a beer and was hit with a ban the moment I came back. I don’t see any sort of timer for my ban so I believe I have been banned from warzone until further notice. Can someone please get back to me and see if this can be reversed this feels so unfair.

I’m sure it was just a ban for being idle, first offense is usually about 2 minutes.
Im starting to get really frustrated with this whole thing. Firstly, I understand why the bans are necessary and in place.
That said, the way this game actually takes betrayals into account is infuriating. I was betrayed twice by a guy for no reason (probably because I took a shotgun?), so I proceeded to get him back twice. And now I’m banned for half hour all of the sudden.
I have been banned a couple times in the past for 10 minutes, but this is absurd. Does the game not take into account other people betraying me first? And why the hell can I be betrayed twice and not get to kick the kid, only to betray twice and then be kicked?

You retaliated and are surprised you got booted?
Don’t do that and you won’t get quit banned. And if you’re banned for 30 minutes, that means you have prior history.
Got a 10 min temp ban for quitting 2 quick play games. Not complaining, just wondering what the rule is. It was 4v1 in both games, though in one game i was on the 4 side and in the other i was the last player left. I was under the impression that the ban penalty was not applied when quitting games that aren’t full, but I guess I was wrong.
Is it dependent on playlist or do you have to be the shorthanded team to avoid a ban?

The soft penalty only applies to ranked games as there is no join in progress in those.
I was pointed here after making a statement about poor matchmaking so I guess his point was to reply here. Banhammer is cool and appropriate and all, but is being used as a crutch by 343 to stand up their horrible match making algorithms. If I choose to quit a game, it’s because the game isn’t enjoyable. I don’t mind losing a close game, but when I am getting utterly detroyed because players are substantially better than me, that points back to poor matchmaking algorithms - and that is a 343 problem. Step us guys, and figure this out - so many games today do SUCH a better job. And while you are focused on ensuring your elite players and enjoying Halo more and more, the guys that have supported you from the beginning (who happen to suck at the game play but nevertheless enjoy it) continue to get beat up by your game play decisions. So let me summarize - your match making algorithms SUCK for players like me. And when a game is so frustrating that I need to quit, penalizing me is totally inappropriate.

> Just got banned for betraying teammates who had spent the entire game killing me (I was betrayed 5 times). It didn’t give me the option to kick them, so I had to betray them so I could just play the game. I killed 2 people and got kicked and banned. It really makes NO sense at all how they get off without any punishment and I get banned.
Firstly, I would say that you should never stoop to the level of griefers in any situation. 2 wrongs don’t make a right, and all that. If you betray in retaliation for getting betrayed, you still are betraying and therefore are opening yourself up to the consequences. In situations like this, the best thing to do is ride it out, try to play normally, and do your best to ignore them until the end of the match. Then, after the match, report them. If it’s super unbearable, I suppose you could quit, but that risks getting you banned, too.
Secondly, how were your teammates killing you? Was it one teammate? All of them? How often were you getting betrayed? Did they simply damage you and let an enemy finish you off? Was this in Warzone, and you were getting splattered? If you betrayed 2 people, that probably means that at least 2 of them were antagonizing you. They could have been pacing how often they betrayed you to avoid getting detected by the system, and baiting you to retaliate. It sucks when allies do this, especially if they are doing it in a way that gets around the banhammer, but still you should never betray back, because it’s still wrong, and they were probably trying to goad you into doing that anyway, so by doing it you gave them exactly what they wanted.

While I would normally agree with you, this was breakout. I was getting gunned down EVERY round, and while they were winning most of them, I wasn’t playing at all. It was a party of 3, so I was the odd man out. They would take turns betraying me (to avoid the banhammer). 5 rounds of being betrayed twice by each person except the last one. They weren’t even letting the enemy finish me off, they would Spartan charge and shotgun me in the back at the beginning of the round. It was either kill or be killed. I guess what I’m REALLY upset about is the fact that they were given the option to kick me after 2 offenses when they themselves had each killed me twice (except for the last guy, who only killed me once), as well as the fact that I was banned immediately after getting kicked.
