The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

> Banned for idling 1 game. I had to answer the door and speak to someone when I got up from the game but this was the 2nd game I had played this day so I had only idled out of 1 game. Reading this post it seems as if the ban happens after repetitive game idles. Does the ban reset everyday or does it just include previous days of play?

Ban timers don’t reset. They basically double with each infraction. If you were booted for Idling you can receive a ban regardless of whether it was your first offense or not.

Why was I banned when the first 3 games that I played in doubles my “partner” left the game as soon as it started. I left the game after that because I refuse to let my stats suffer due to someone else not staying in the game. This should not be a banning action. I should be reinstated asap. It is not my fault nor or is fair to force me to play a 1 v 2 match because my partner backed out before the match had even started.

You have a few DNF’s on your record. The game looks for patterns. You have DNFed three times on your first page. This is why you were banned

Hello All…I’ve been a Halo player since Halo 2. I left the gaming world during grad school and never returned. I got the itch to play again, so I went out a few weeks ago and purchased a new Xbox and Halo 5. I quickly learned I’m not as good as I used to be, lol. Now, to the point. I’m currently banned from matchmaking. I can honestly say that I have idled before, so the resultant initial ban was appropriate. However, since that time, I always log out of the matchmaking lobby when I want to watch Netflix or use another app. As of now, I’m banned from matchmaking and don’t know why. How can I get my privileges reinstated? And, how do I ensure that it doesn’t happen again? If this is going to be a problem, please provide me with the instructions to cancel my Xbox Live membership. I enjoy games, but not so much anymore if I have to deal with this aggravation.

If you were banned from matchmaking you would have received a ‘banhammer strikes’ message which would indicate the length of the ban and what you did to earn it. The most common reasons are idling, griefing, manipulation of matchmaking/networks, and excessive DNFs. Did you receive such a message? If not what makes you think you are banned?

> How can I get my privileges reinstated? And, how do I ensure that it doesn’t happen again?

It’s an automated system. If you are banned, you’ll have to wait out your ban timer.

> If this is going to be a problem, please provide me with the instructions to cancel my Xbox Live membership. I enjoy games, but not so much anymore if I have to deal with this aggravation.

You’d have to do that through Microsoft and it would depend on your plan.

I’m just curious, but does the Forum team respond to this thread or look at issues? I hope I’m not wasting my time by posting this.

Anyway, I was hoping that this game linked below could be removed from my quit record towards a ban if it’s possible. It was a JIP game which I got a quit for because my Internet went out right after I joined the game. I’m not trying to get out of a quit game because I have quit games in the past and I accept the consequences when I do that, but this one was unintentional.

No,the forum team cant remove games from the quite list.

I got banned because I would find a match and right before the game was about to start, the game said unable to connect to server then brought me back to the menu. This happened a couple of times until I found a mach. After completing the mach, I got a ban message…wow. way to go 343, ban people based on the internet connection.

If it was ranked arena, since it was JIP it likely won’t count. They updated the system so that it didn’t count towards a ban if someone had quit before you.

Hello, I’m SYN Brickster and I can not get on halo and I was just wondering why or if I was banned if so why?

Did you receive a ‘banhammer strikes’ message flashing on the screen? Are you unable to enter a playlist because 'one or more members of your fireteam have been banned." ?

Can you still select playlists with the blue cursor,or has it disappeared? If yes,use an hardreset.

I hope 343 understand that if many players quit often that it is not the players fault but the developers. Players leaving games is a strong indicator that the ranking/matching system is not working properly or the server lag is really bad. I don’t get halo to get beat up in lopsided games or be lagging all over the map.

No, the player is the one who pressed that quit button. It’s their action and the consequences are theirs as well.

So people should be allowed to quit any game they are losing?

If the match was not winnable and “severely” mismatched.

Which is mostly subjective and the player’s knowledge often doesn’t allow them to determine if the match ‘is not winnable.’ I’ve had my -Yoink- kicked badly by a group of players and then completely owned them the next three matches. There are a lot of factors that go into play with a loss. A team can appear to be well coordinated and more skillful when they are merely having a good match or feeling the luck of a draw. Now if you’re a bronze and you’re facing off against four champions that would be the fault of the matchmaking; that isn’t the case most of the time. It’s the player who is responsible for their actions. They know they aren’t supposed to quit the game. They know there are consequence for quitting and if they quite anyway I don’t have a lot of sympathy when the hammer falls.

But if they are losing only by a little they should stay. The point I was trying to make is that if the other team is obviously 5 times better than you that you would lose no matter what. Why would someone put themselves through that kind on misery? Thanks. I will edit my post rather than making another.

You can edit your posts. You don’t need to quote the same post of mine twice.
