The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

> I have been booted out of games that I was playing due to the games server issues and now because of that i have gotten the banhammer for a problem that wasnt even my fault. to the developers: FIX THIS ISSUE SO THAT THIS BAN DOESN’T BECOME PERMANENT THE NEXT TIME I PLAY

Looking at your game history, 90% of the time you are the only one that Dnf’s. If it was a server issue then no one would finish the game. More than likely it is a networking problem on your end.

> 2533274800148509;4401:
> Okay so i quit one game today because my team kept killing them self and me. It said 12 min ban so i’m like okay ill go play custom games, played a few custom games yes i did leave a few of them, i did not like them or got bored. Left home for about 3-4hrs came back now i cant play social, ranked or warzone games…really 343!? Banned for quitting custom games…Pathetic.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, bans can’t occur due to actions in custom games. So yes, your DNF record in MM would explain it.

> I know why I’m banned but how do I find out how long I am banned for? It just says “at least one player in your fireteam is banned from halo 5:guardians.”

Usually restarting the game will give you the ban message again to find out your time.

I got banned for nothing beacuse when
the whole game was done i got banned

The ban system runs on a match delay. 7 out of your last 50 matches are DNFs. That is likely the reason for your ban.

The ban system runs on a delay, it was your prior misbehavior that caused your ban. In this case I’m reasonably sure your ban was due to your idling through infection matches (I can post a video if you’d like.) In order to reach 24 hours you would need to have been banned several times, so you might want to re-read the first post in this thread to make sure you are reading the ban timer correctly.

I havent been banned since i got better internet…

Banned… I think. (Accidently clicked through the banner).

Was playing warzone firefight, both times got ‘disconnected’ a few mins into the game (which happens too often for my liking)… and restarted my game to see I was banned.

XOS wired into 200Mbps cable… disconcerting, to say the least.

You’re right, I don’t see any DNFs. Either the servers really aren’t working right, or your internet has some weird issue.

**Edit: Correction, I see two. Which I am assuming is a result of your ‘disconnections’, in both cases you were twenty or so minutes in each match. Which leads me to believe either you could’ve actually quit, (because you didn’t seem to do well in both games).**DNFs stack, you know. So, even if you got one say… a week ago, it doesn’t just reset.

You do have six DNF’s in your last thirty matches which might be enough to trigger a ban. However, it should be clear that you were banned if it was the case. You would receive a message saying you were ‘disconnected from the server’ immediately followed by a ‘banhammer strikes’ message indicating what you had done to warrant the ban. If you didn’t recieve that message you might consider power cycling your modem and hard resetting your xbox one. The latter of which is done by pressing and holding the button on the front of your console until it completely shuts down, waiting a couple of minutes and then restarting it.

The disconnections are exactly that. For some reason, if I try to play firefight a reasonable percentage of the time I get disconnected in 1~3 mins of gameplay. Doesn’t occur in the Warzone or Assault, nor Arena (though I play that infrequently).

Don’t confuse that complain with other DNF’s, which I try to avoid in general are rarely have anything to do with my performance (I often play in casual, not competitive manner).

“You do have six DNF’s in your last thirty matches which might be enough to trigger a ban.”

Wow! If I DNF 20% of my matches (which are typically big team, 20 min games) I can get banned? That’s harsh… esp. as that seems to consider disconnects as DNF’s.

Excessive disconnects are on the list of ban worthy offenses. 20% is a pretty high amount. Leaving 1 in 5 matches is frankly a bit absurd. If your DNF’s are due to disconnects there are several threads that have tips on how to improve your connection stability. Feel free to use the search feature to find that advice.

Frankly, ‘banning’ players who play non-competitively if they have a single disconnect or need to rush of due to work or life in an average of ~100mins of gameplay ‘is frankly a bit absurd’. Esp. given this disconnect shouldn’t have a significant impact on the game.

I’ll look at the connection stability topics.

I’ve found my history: those two recent DNF’s were disconnects within 1~3mins. I have no idea why they suggest I played for ~20mins.

Normal Game:

1st place, ~70 kills, ~30 assists: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-5-guardians/xbox-one/mode/warzone/matches/2e0f1cf3-9cd2-4652-ab5c-530bc7803afb/players/npsf3000?gameHistoryMatchIndex=4&gameHistoryGameModeFilter=All

DNF:

10th place, 10 kills, 3 assists… yet took 20 mins? In Firefight? Yeah, no I was disconnected in the first few minutes.

https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-5-guardians/xbox-one/mode/warzone/matches/4f1b6606-03d7-46e8-b24b-2a52f9cae2ae/players/npsf3000?gameHistoryMatchIndex=8&gameHistoryGameModeFilter=All

i had to put the controller down to take care of my child. halo 5 thought it was necessary to give a 6 hour ban. that seems a little harsh. is there no one to talk to to try to resolve or lower my ban time.

Posting here is the only place to discuss your ban. If any sort of ban shortening or retraction were to occur, this is where you ask for it.
that being said, I’ve never heard of 343i manually unbanning people early.
its worth noting that a 6 hour ban suggests you’ve been banned before, likely more than a few times for that long of a duration. Bans in Halo 5 are cumulative; each successive ban is longer than the last, and there is no known system of forgiveness. The system also has no way of knowing why you are not finishing your games; it treats all DNFs equally.

I never quit my games, because I believe all things are possible if you try. However, when I first bought my copy, I would always load any warzone type playlist, and it would always quit my game before the first one loaded. I would then restart the game and play as normal with no crashes. This has happened multiple times, so banning must only count if the game had already started.

P.S:
It only lags me from new games, not JIP games.

I have a question. When you go to a banned account and it says the date, will their accounts actually get unbanned at that time? Because I have seen some that say 2552 AD. Just wondering. Also, how can you tell if someone creates multiple accounts?

This is the halo 5 ban thread. It’s for questions about bans from Halo 5; not waypoint.

we have a couple tricks. Why?
