The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

There is a warning that “matchmaking rules are in effect for misconduct.” when you choose any playlist. The rules were also announced prior to the release of the game.

Well I don’t know I never played halo in my life do you know how long I’m banned for?

You should have received a "banhammer strikes’ message with a timer. Initial bans are short unless there is some extreme misconduct going on. They do get longer with each infraction though.

I think it said 57 minutes initially but idk where it’s at now. That will be the last time I do that thanks anyway!

My son was begging me to let him play on my account while I went away for work for 2 days. I allowed it and told him to be respectful. I’ve noticed I’m not banned for a couple days. How do I know what caused it? ie Idling vs profanity

Would you consider lowering the ban time? He’s 6 years old and has cancer and on his way out…

When a temp ban in Halo 5 is applied, a message pops up that says you’re banned, why, and for how long. Currently the only time that message pops up is when the ban is first activated; after that, there is no way to bring back the ban message. The behavior that can lead to temp bans in Halo 5 are as follows:

  • Quitting - Excessive disconnecting - Betraying teammates - Intentional suicides - Idling (no controller input for too long)As for the duration of the ban, there is probably nothing that can be done to change the timer. For one, the only ones who tend to comb this thread are Waypoint users and Monitors; 343i reps don’t really come around here, and they’d be the only ones who could change the timer.

It’s an automated system. If it put a ban on the account you/your son/whomever did something wrong. The most common reasons for bans from Halo 5 are DNFS/Idling/Griefing/ and manipulation of matchmaking. The account would have received a ‘ban hammer strikes message’ which indicated what the ban was for and the length. In order to be banned for two days; the account would have had to have a significant amount of prior bans, be involved with manipulation of matchmaking conditions in warzone, or used specific griefing methods in action sack.

While you have my sympathies concerning your child’s illness; it is irrelevant. There is no method I’m aware of to have a ban appealed, you’ll simply have to wait out the ban timer and ideally avoid the misconduct in the future.

Hate how the halo servers lag out and I get banned for it

I paid £300 for an Xbox and Halo 5 so that I could play Halo 5 - I don’t care what argument you use against me, but unless I’m cheating or abusive I should not be stopped from playing it because I left a few games.
> >
> > I quit because twice my team quit before me - which means my quitting was OK. It’s wrong to expect me to want to play a 4v1 or 4v2 game. You can’t tell me to ‘endure it’ because games are played for fun, and you would be wrong to assert that I need to suffer first in order to not get banned.
> >
> > I quit another time because my team were abusing me verbally and by attacking me, blocking me, tbagging me, etc. Funnily enough, muting people doesn’t stop all of that - which is why I left the game. Reporting does nothing either as I’d have still had to put up with them for the rest of the game.
> >
> > That guy’s day did not get screwed. You are being absurd. If your day is ruined by a person quitting in a game then you need to go outside. He most likely finished the match then started another match having probably forgotten about the last game; like any reasonable/normal person would. You are literally clasping at straws to try and justify your indefensible position.
> >
> > Case in point an 8 hour ban for a few games quit is ridiculous. It’s not OK to ban people for so long for something so minor. 8 hours if you’re being abusive or cheating is fine - but not for quitting.
>
> Their console, their multiplayer service, their game, their rules. Doesn’t matter how much money you payed, or, if it does. I payed about 500 € on Halo 5 Legendary alone, about 250 € on the Xbox One and those 5 € on XBL gold each month. I did not pay that much money to play with quitters. I don’t care whatever argument you use against me, unless I’d allow it, I should not have quitters in my matches.
>
> “Insert insult about spending a lot of money on gaming here”
>
> The rules were announced before the game launched, to terms of use include a paragraph stating they can ban you for basically nothing at all and not even tell you, and the rules are also in short displayed every time you go into matchmaking.
>
> How do you know that guy’s day wasn’t ruined? Did you ask him immediately after? However how nice of you to leave the match and make the situation even worse for that player.
>
> However yes, I do agree preventing anyone from playing is a bit unecessary.
> Instead, those who qualify for a ban should instead be put in a different player pool, a player pool existing of only “banned players”. Meaning, quitters, griefers, idlers and so forth matchef with each other. Also, to prevent abuse, no stats recorded, no commendations tracked and only a fraction of xp and req points given. Instead of total time “banned”, it’d be a number of consecutive clean games required to get back to normal matchmaking.

I really like that idea of a separate player pool. Kinda like GTA’s bad sport lobbies. That is actually a brilliant idea!

i have a 4 hour Arena ban, you know when at the fire station and the tones drop i cant just take all the time i want to leave a game

I know how it is when you need to interrupt your activity because of an emergency.
However, there is no way that 343 could prove that someone left an game due an emergency or lies about that,so you need to wait until your ban is over.
Tipp:Not playing online games while you have a shift, its how I do it and it works fine.

To add to this, it takes more than one game to cause a 4 hour ban. TImes are incremental and increase each time the hammer is dropped, would take multiple games / quits to reach 4 hours

why am i getting banned every time my internet drops a game??? -Yoinking!- -Yoink- this game and connection and everything costs a -Yoink- of a lot of money and banning somebody for no reason is -Yoinked!-!!! -Yoink- you halo 5 for being the biggest -Yoinking!- piece of -Yoink- of a game ever made. i cant believe a gaming company would be ok with this, and in reality people quit more than ever so the ban doesnt work and is probably selling a -Yoink- ton of Nintendo and ps4s so they dont have to put up with this type of -Yoink-. thanks for nothing x box -Yoink- you !!!

18 Dnf’s in the last 3 days alone, that is why you got banned and the bans get longer every time. There is no known reset either.

I looked at a few of your Dnf games and you were the only one that didn’t finish, this points to a networking problem on your end and not the Halo servers.

I know why I’m banned but how do I find out how long I am banned for? It just says “at least one player in your fireteam is banned from halo 5:guardians.”

The ban timer only appears once, at the moment when your ban is activated. After that, there is currently no way to see the timer again. If you missed it, you’ll just have to keep checking back to see when the ban expires.

Could this be set for the game search such that in modes where a teamkill occurs above-average (unintentionally)? Griffball, the team shot is disabled?

I have been booted out of games that I was playing due to the games server issues and now because of that i have gotten the banhammer for a problem that wasnt even my fault. to the developers: FIX THIS ISSUE SO THAT THIS BAN DOESN’T BECOME PERMANENT THE NEXT TIME I PLAY
