The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

> 2533274817408735;4325:
> You are getting banned because you are leaving games. It doesn’t matter why you left those games; the fact is you left your teammates high and dry and disadvantaged even more than they were before. If every 10 matches or so you get matched against a much better team, then that’s not too bad a thing. Stick it out, lose with dignity and finish the game, and you won’t get banned.

So I don’t quit but I have to deal with those who quit or ruin my gaming experience otherwise and just tell them how -Yoinked!- up they are. Then ONE SINGLE MESSAGE results in a TWO WEEK LONG communication ban.
Frankly this sucks. And don’t come with that crap about a private site where 1st A stuff doen’t get you anywhere. You can’t just let the ones who ruin the game get away with a slap on their wrist (if even that) and punish those who express their feelings with a few colorful words with a 2 weeks ban not just in the game in question but all over xbox live.

If 343 and -Yoink!- would make sure everyone had a good gaming experience in the first place we wouldn’t even have to deal with most of this mess.

> just experienced a great game example! I’m playing a game getting absolutely hammered my whole team had left and then my batteries go in my controller… I have no other batteries and now I have to leave myself in this game taking death and death for what reason? Because the rules are ridiculous. I could’ve easily just turned my Xbox off and it would’ve effected nobody… instead a team of 4 just ran around killing me… hmm I can’t believe there’s any players that are actually agreeing with the rules.
>
> Also I didn’t edit my original post last night but phone died as I was typing and cba typing it all again :see_no_evil:
> I checked my games I’ve had 11 DNF since the 25th which fair it is many but at least 4/5 was due to connection failure which would leave 7 in 13 days… now I’m getting banned every time I leave a game??? When does it reset? Or do i just get banned whenever I leave a game for the rest orb my life now?! :joy: Crazy these rules are

Connection errors are no excuse.
Here are some tips to improve your connection:
Open your Nat
Use wired connection
The ban system dont reset itself, but people discovered that the bans got shorter after they finished a few games.
You know when your batteries are starting to run low, there is more then one warning,so you have enough time to organises some.

> “It doesn’t matter why you left those games”
> thats gotta be one of the more ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. So no situation at all am I allowed to leave a game? So I see someone get hit by a car outside and I leave a game to go help them and I get banned?! Hahahahahaha sort it out 343 messed up big time on this!

Can you tell me a way how the ban system can see that you left to save someone?
And edit your posts instead of creating a new for such an trivil thing.

You dont get a communication ban for just one message.
As you said"you telled them"this implify that you wrote more then one message and if they just contain swearing, you shouldnt be surprised that people report you for communication
So to solve your issue, just dont write messages or be a little bit more friendlier.

> I am getting banned every single time I leave a game a couple hours ago I was banned for leaving one game for half an hour and that’s probably the first game I’ve left in a few days and then after waiting for the 30 minutes to be up I played about 10 matches and then I left a game and I am banned again for 47.05 minutes?! Huh?! Are you serious?!

While I understand your frustration with the crappy matchmaking but think about the frustration that you are causing those on your team that you leave behind. Your action actually makes a bad situation worse for those who are left behind and frankly, early quitters need a much more severe punishment - their whole multiplayer privileges all across xbox live need to be revoked for a certain amount of time.

Yes you do.
One -Yoinking!- message telling a -Yoinking!- early quitter what an -Yoink- he is. They are not worth more of my time since they already wasted enough of it.
Again, if there was enough incentive not to quit early in the first place I wouldn’t have to vent and tell them how well they ruined my game experience.

Xbox Live communication bans are not handled by 343i. They are handled by Xbox Enforcement.

Both are -Yoink!- and the key here was that if 343 would do more to prevent the party pooper from ruining the game those with the negatively impacted gaming experience wouldn’t even be there in the first place. That is what this is about and it concerns 343 as much as the xbox live team

So how many times has that happened to you? You must be quite the hero on your block.
Even if that would happen once a week I doubt it would result in any ban so the only reason you are being hit by the ban hammer (not a car LOL) is that you quit for less heroic (if heroic at all) reasons.

How do communication bans work, I got a nasty voice message from somebody with explicit words, do I just report the message?

Also for those who complain of being mismatched all the time try changing your search preference to focused. It will happen less often then.

Leaving “at the beginning so other player can fill in” is still something that shouldn’t be done and should warrant a full force ban hammer. Yesterday I had a match where two people (out of 4) left and nobody joined for the remainder of the whole match. As for the farming - I haven’t quit out of those either. I just did my best to minimize the damage.

I found this very useful it showed me that at times there may be reasons to break the rules, not for personal gain and the time between this instances does not create a pattern therefore ban hammer won’t pick it up

I strongly disagree with that statement.
I always search “focused” and it still matches me solo against teams of 3 or 4, against much stronger players (Onyx and above when there isn’t even a diamond on my team) and so on.

Questions about the reputation system can be answered here, but yes.

Let’s stay on topic please. This is the ban thread, let’s keep the discussion to bans from Halo 5 please.

Well I think that this all did fit in quite well.
You can only solve an issue when you are aware of all the circumstances around it.
And my point for example is that if things were different in Halo 5 already (and I am trying to be very neutral as you can see) then maybe nobody would need to report anybody to begin with which in return would significantly minimize any kind of bans - hammer or otherwise.

It does that when it can’t find anyone in your rank, it then widens the parameters to near your rank , and like I said it reduces the chance of it happening.

That’s absolutely pathetic buddy.
were playing in “social” matchmaking here not “ranked” and certainly not any game battles clan battles or anything like that either. Fair if people are quitting ranked games on the regular but I’ve paid for an Xbox one, Xbox live, halo 5 and then I still don’t get to decide if I leave a game on a social playlist? Come in it’s stupendous not even fathomable to understand.
also me leaving when I have 2 kills and 18 deaths if not making it’s harder for any team and I am very confident all of you on here replying are pretty good at the game so when you see someone on your team at the end of the game doing 2/18 and similar stats to that then I know you all find that much more annoying and actually wish the guy left???
Btw I just got roasted like 5 games in a row we lost about 9-50 and you think this is fair? More fair than me leaving? It’s just put me in ANOTHER game against that same team this time it ended 50-25??? then tried to put me in another so I quit and now I’m banned for 3 hours :joy: I’ve probably played 20+ games today too!!

The ban system is automated. If you don’t leave games you won’t get banned for leaving games. It doesn’t care why you left. It doesn’t care about your rationalizations. The ban worthy offenses were announced prior to the release of the game. You chose to purchase a game and participate in matchmaking knowing that matchmaking rules were in effect to curb misconduct. If you then violate those rules, you cannot expect that there won’t be a response regardless of how ‘justified’ you think you are.

Nice to see I can find someone I agree with. Xbox needs to stop censoring our speech. Some people on this service really do need a verbal whipping. I am just sick of society becoming so overly PC. But hey, if you keep getting betrayed just finish the match and report the individual(s) engaging in the TK’ing.

Questions about the xbox live reporting reputation system can be answered here. It isn’t a form of ‘censorship’, you simply violated the rules. By creating/using an xbox live account you agreed to certain terms here and here. By violating those terms Microsoft can respond. All actions have consequences. If you misuse/violate those terms they take your usage of the system away. Discussion of this has nothing to do to do with the Halo 5 ban system. So one last time, STAY ON TOPIC, Please.
