> > The following FAQ should answer some of your questions about Halo 5 bans. We will update this FAQ as necessary.
> > I received an in-game message saying I have been banned. Why?
> > If you are checking this page because of an in-game message, it is likely that you have been banned for violating the terms of use and/or committing a code of conduct violation. It is also possible, in the case of an especially egregious violation, that your Xbox One system itself is now banned from Matchmaking. The duration of this ban is based on the type, frequency or nature of the committed violation. In most cases, Custom Games will still be available. In extreme cases, they will not.
> > How can I tell how long I was banned for?
> > Ban duration will be shown on the red ban screen as the ban hammer strikes. First offences are generally low and last only a few minutes, but will increase in duration incrementally with each subsequent ban. The ban timer itself displays times as follows - Days : Hours : Minutes : Seconds

> > I shouldnāt be banned. My brother/sister/cousin/dad/mom/friend mustāve logged on with my account and done bad things. Will you please reverse my ban?
> > If this is indeed the case, we do understand your frustration. However, it is your sole responsibility to keep your account information secure and not share it with others who would abuse it. We have no way of detecting who is playing with your account, and if your gamertag is caught making naughty, you will be banned. Those are the rules.
> > I didnāt do anything wrong, and you canāt prove it. Will you please reverse my ban?
> > Our automated system builds up a digital case of wrongdoing before any ban is enacted. If you accidentally disconnect a time or two, you wonāt get banned. Instead the system looks for patterns that canāt happen accidentally. If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong.
> > Will posting in this thread guarantee my ban will be lifted and that someone will respond personally to every post?
> > Unfortunately, no. We simply donāt have enough eyes, ears and typing hands to respond to every single post. However, the community will help keep you honest. You have a public game history for everyone to see. If you post you were banned unjustly, the community is in their rights to check out your history to confirm or deny your claims. Please, just keep it clean.
> > The purpose of this thread is to keep all questions pertaining to bans in one place. Without a megathread for such questions, the rest of the forum will almost certainly turn into a cavalcade of ban questions.
> > If you were banned and think you have a case, this is the ONLY thread you should post in. If other moderators see posts pertaining to bans in other threads, they will either be deleted outright or a kind-hearted mod might just move the posts to this thread.
> > If any users are caught habitually spamming ban threads in other threads, we will consider that a violation of the forum Terms of Use. You will risk being banned here as well. We donāt want to have to ban anyone, but we do want an open, honest and positive place to post about all things Halo, so a thread like this is necessary.
> > Thanks in advance!
Lol, you have 8 DNF in the span of five days. Just āoneā huh? Regardless if you paid or not (cuz all of us paid), no one wants to play with quitters/team killers/idlers/ect ect. You paid for the license to play, but not to play the multiplayer however you want.

> This is a serious joke⦠but hey no wonder xbox is being outsold 2 to 1 by the PS4. Which one has some weird āautomated policy?ā hmmmm.
Seriously? PS4 is outselling XBOX1 because XBOX has a Code of Conduct? I can tell you I have lagged out, shot the wrong teammate by accident of course and fell off cliffs and have not been banned. PS4 owners are childish, immature and down right obnoxious at times. I swear when I had my PS3 I thought I was playing online with inmates.
> The Banhammer Strikes
> You have been placed on a cool down from warzone matchmaking for poor connection to the dedicated servers. Check www.halowaypoint.com/ban for more information. Your cool down will last for the following duration: 9:40
does anyone have any information that could help me understand why this is happening so I can prevent it in the future?
I understand why I was banned, my console disconnected from too many games. But I didnāt ever leave manually nor did anyone at my house. Your Halo 5 servers disconnect me at least once a day and I literally canāt do anything about it. I have 60 MB/s download speed, and the fact I got banned for something I have no control over really sucks. Granted its my first ban, so itās only a few minutes, this happens daily to me. So soon, it will be a longer ban for something I have no control over. Please fix this, as I told myself I would never leave a ranked game, no matter what, and I get banned for āleavingā too many is ridiculous.
The ban is rediculous, childish, way too strict, and dumb. Hereās whyā¦
Itās not helping anything. People still quit out 10 kills into the game if we go down by a lot. This happens sometimes 5 games in a row.
If you canāt determine if someone quit or was disconnected then next time you take 3 years to build a game letās incorporate a way to determine that. Itās 2016 donāt try and tell me it cant be done.
Making the game not playable for a duration of time is not doing anything relative to making the game rankings fair and accurate.
Letās face it you guys are more excited to slap a ban hammer banner across my screen than to make the game rankings fair and accurate.
(I have played every halo extensively)
Hereās what I would like to see.
No more ban hammer,
I know you all probably spent months designing the banner and perfecting the duration algorithm or whatever makes it take years to make a game.
Plain and simple you quit out you drop down to the previous rank. Thatās it thatās all we need. After all we are all here trying to get to champion. If I went down a rank every time I quit out well I would never quit out agian.
The ban hammer is lame. RIP it. People are abusing the quit out more than ever so your ban is worthless. It was a great idea it even looks cool but itās putting up false ranks when people can just quit out the game.
How is it a good idea to prevent people from playing your game?
So, this has been happening to me a lot recently, and the ban times are getting longer and longer. Just using today as an example (because every other time has been pretty much the same) Iām playing g a game of slayer and complete the match, waiting to goto the post game lobby to check my stats and I get disconnected, then I go play a game, I go 20-4 (not that it matters) and then after the game has completed I get the ban hammer thing pop up. The first few times it was only a few minutes, then it jumped to 45 minutes, now today it banned me for 2 hours and 40 minutes. I tend to have a pretty tight schedule, so when I do play I like it to go without a hitch. Now because of this I wonāt get to play until Mondayā¦schedule. Is 343i tracking this issue? And is there any way that if they read this on time maybe they can lift my ban?
Sooo Iām getting a day long ban because your servers lag out and lose connection at the end of many of my games. It says ālost connectionā right at the xp/rp reward screen. Also many times in the middle of the game too. Itās been particularly bad today. Very annoyed. Also while Iām here the spawn locations sometimes suck (spawning right next to enemies) and the damage is inconsistent (put half a clip into enemy and meleed and me not having any damage and getting meleed and only me dying, also scattershotted a guy point blank and he didnāt die and meleed me when I had no damage and died). Overall really enjoying the game but these issues annoy the boink outta me.

The same thing just happened to me, for Swat. Iāve played two games today, the first being slayer. I will admit, I did quit early, I had to actually leave my house for a few. However, when I got back, I loaded into swat, played the game, hell, I was actually doing good in a game for once, then as soon as the game ended and the stats started popping up, I was disconnected, apparently my console lost connection for a second. I was then slapped with a banhammer because I āquit too many matches today.ā I miss the old halo, I miss Bungies team. They didnāt ban me if I lost connection. 343 does.

3 hours later of playing Halo, happened again and got banned for another hour. Thanks 343! I canāt play your game because you wonāt let me for your mistakes.
I have never quit out of a game ever, until just now. I quit once, and i get a ten minute ban. I mean I get it, but Iāve played where Iām the last guy due to quitters. I finally for once had a buddy invite me to a game and I was getting stomped in free for all and figured it wouldnāt hurt. And bam ten minute ban. Seems broken. Whateverā¦
I quit out of ONE game of unranked griffball because two of my teamates were not playing and one kept killing me on accident and i get banned for it. Its like you guys are trying to make me not want to play this game when i finally try to play some.

The game can detect if you quit using the in-game menu, but if you drop out thereās no way to tell if you dashboarded, switched off your wifi, pulled your ethernet cable or turned off your Xbox. You simply stop sending data to the server so it can only count you as not being in the came. As itās been mentioned already, to easy for people to do that and cry disconnect.

I can tell you now this wonāt work. The reason we have the ranking system that doesnāt allow you to drop ranks, is to stop the de-ranking problem that plagued Halo 3 matchmaking. People would only abuse this to quit out of enough matches to de-rank their account.

As you should, Iām sure you could have waited a few extra minutes and then backed out to the lobby. If you idle in games, youāre going to get kicked. If you keep idling, youāre going to get banned.
funny how it says you wont get banned from a 1 or 2 disconnections. that they base it on a pattern of misconduct. interesting when i in fact have a outstanding record of good behavior not quitting but get a ban after 1 quit. seriously if you donāt believe me read up on my post so this means that my other 2 DNFs almost a week ago, that were from disconnecting arenāt being counted. so i literally just got banned for 1 quit. 1 QUIT! Try and tell me thatās not out of hand. go ahead, look at my gaming history. no DNFs besides the 2/27, those DNFs were disconnections that say on here donāt get counted towards a ban. so what am i getting a min 30 sec ban for? literally 1 match, that is it. They need to fix this ban hammer it is broken. my game history will you i hardly quit. in fact i have such few DNFs i can count the number of times i have actually quit, not continue broken server disconnections, on my hand. thatās how few times i ever have quit since this game came out. how come i am gettign banned? the only logical thing i can think of is it is going months back.

i guess this slightly helps. its counting months back or more. thatās ridiculous. i donāt think it even resets. if so that means anyone that is dedicated to this game is going to be getting banned a lot after a year. so for playing halo 5 long enough over time because you play it so much and it remembers all those DNFs from even over a year ago, it will punish you for it. so newer players can quit more and if you even quit 1 time you get banned.
