Two nights ago, my FiOS crashed twice. I was ranked Gold 3 before it crashed and I was booted from my game. I reset the modem and logged back on and rejoined my fireteam. Just as the map finished loading and all four of us were taking a step forward, my FiOS crashed again. So, I turned off my console and went to bed. Last night, I signed on and found myself at Gold 1. I lost 2 ranks through no fault of my own and I can’t get you guys to give it back to me? Sure, I’ve quit games before and lost rank rightfully, but your servers should be able to detect if my connection was lost, because it would show I suddenly signed off vs. leaving a game and still being signed in. The console should also be able to detect if I had my finger holding the power switch to shut off the console manually. No matter, though. I just heard that ranks have been reset once again. I really hate this feature, along with many other features, and makes Halo 5 not fun for me anymore. Before the 2nd reset back in December, I was ranked at Platinum 5. Now, I can’t get past Gold 3 and I’m now back down to Gold 1. Whereas I would play all day and all night in Halo CE to Halo 4, I find myself only playing Halo 5 a few hours a night, before it pisses me off to the point where I just sign off, or go back to play Halo CE, where things were simple. Yeah, I still love playing Halo CE. No love here for Halo 5. Sorry if you don’t like this comment, but that’s the truth about how I, and many many many others feel about this game, and what 343 has not done to resolve the issues that concern us. You’re losing a majority of your original fan base and it’s sad to think that I probably won’t be getting Halo 6 when it comes out.
Glad to see this system has been put in place.
For everyone who’s claiming they’re getting DNFs because they get a “failed to retrieve data” message at the end of the game, I have a hard time believing you. My game fails to retrieve data every so often too, but I’ve never gotten a DNF on my record for it. In fact, the stats for that game are usually available on Waypoint a few minutes later (and you get your REQ points too, several minutes later). So, for everyone who keeps saying that, the next time you finish a game and then get a “failed to retrieve data” message, check for that game on waypoint 20 minutes later. I’ll bet you didn’t get a DNF on your record.
I do agree that quitting custom games or forge games shouldn’t count against you and induce a ban. But I didn’t think it did…
I got banned after finishing a game. No betrayal, no suicide no inactivity. Played the full game then afterwards got the ban for 11 hours 2 minutes. Never been banned before so how is this justified. Sure I leave a game here and there but never very often at all maybe once a day.
The Ban Hammer is a system that needs to be removed from the game for the simple fact that it is incredibly flawed. It counts Social Playlists and Custom Games, that’s an absolutely absurd.
The amount of games I play competitively till the end is overwhelming compared the to the few times I’ve quit.
Nobody should be getting banned for more than an hour anyways.

LOL Do you think all the players are in the same country?
A good game design need to sit in players seat, get in their head, and truly understand what they’re feeling.
If you don’t,don’t try it.

Lol way to disregard the fact that all but one of those games were Custom Games in which I was the only player in the game. CHECK THE HISTORY, I need to be unbanned ASAP to be honest. It’s ridiculous that I’ve been banned this whole time for quitting 1 Arena game.
Not to mention if the ban hammer doesn’t forgive players for quitting a game a week prior, all players will eventually get banned
Has anyone been banned for absolutely no reason at all? Two friends and I have been banned from arena and warzone multiple times fo no reason. We didn’t team kill, commit suicide, or do anything to get ban. Has this Happened to anyone else? I think there is a bug in the system!!!
Hi all. Directly to the point, I was banned after quitting ONE Halo 5 Slayer match.
Recently started playing Halo 5 again and so far it’s been great. I’ve had a few disconnected matches in the past but tonight I admittedly outright quit a single match. I hopped into a game of Swat after that and right after finishing that match I got hit with the banhammer for 10 hours 19 mins. Here’s the match:
I understand the bahmammer strikes players who make a habit of quitting and it’s honestly not a habit I make. Go through my game history and you’ll see I have stuck out games where my team loses by 25+ points (out of 50). The FAQ mentions “If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong”. That’s placing quite a bit of faith in a system prone to human error.
Can anyone please help me understand how quitting 1 match is a legit ban reason?
Thanks,
Sol Knightt
Edit:
I just now realized I was also playing a Grifball game earlier and a few betrayals were had by accident. With everyone swinging grav hammers how could there not be? But… Do these types of betrayals count towards the ban system’s judgement?
In addition to my previous post of being banned after quitting 1 match, I went through my game history. Yes there are some DNF matches. But if I had quit out of them and not being disconnected from matchmaking, wouldn’t I have gained 0XP from the matches?
The DNFs aside from tonight’s single instance are showing that I gained 100XP and 1000XP from them.
Knightshadow159How about me getting band from losing games. Because that seems to happen to me alot when i lose a game and basicly I feel force to play warzone( which sucks). I mean is there any way possible can you not keep on banning me for this…

I have an issue where if I quit a match and then join an play a complete game, I am banned immediately following the second game. The bans keep getting longer even though I am only leaving one match so it is incredibly frustrating. Is there any way to fix this issue?

This is your lucky day, Spartan!
I have devised a system to negate your bans after completing a match.
the remedy to this is: do not quit the previous game. You’re welcome.

> Awesome! I was banned for 30 minutes for leaving a game AFTER someone else left first… Such bs.
And it’s likely that the other player got banned as well, or will be at least 1 step closer to having the hammer swung on them

When you quit using the menu the game can tell you have quit, but if you dashboard, turn off your xbox, pull your ethernet cable or your internet goes out, there is suddenly no data being sent to the servers so there is no way to tell if you got removed from the game or you removed yourself form the game. It sees you as having left and counts it as DNF

You have 4DNF matches over the past week and a lot more back at the beginning of January. To get an 11 hour ban, as explained in the first post of this topic, you would need to have been banned several times already as bans are incremental. The system runs one game behind which is why it can often seem like you are banned for finishing / winning a game

You have at least 12 DNF matches noted over the past 10 or so days and more the further back into February and January I go.

Looking over your history you have 3 DNF matches noted. As you haven’t played enough to have been banned multiple times, I think this is just a case that you’re reading the ban timer wrong. Inital bans are only a few minutes in duration (see the first post in this topic for details). Your ban will have been for just 10 minutes and 19 seconds and not 10 hours

You have a crazy amount of DNF matches in your service record. If you are quitting out matches then stopping quitting will stop you from getting banned. If it’s connection issues, I’d suggest searching over the support forums for details on how to troubleshoot your connection or make a post there for further help.

That’s how the ban system works though. You’re not just quitting 1 match, you are quitting multiple matches, even if you complete the next game all your quits add up. The simplest way to fix your issue is to stop quitting out of matches.
So I quit one game tonight and I’m banned till 1700, does that mean 17 hours time or are they using 24hour time so I’ll be banned till 5pm tomorrow? Why such a long ban when I havnt been banned for like a month or more And my last ban was a lag out issue and the ban was only like 20 mins or something.
Massive jump in ban time!
Best part of this ban system is you can get banned for leaving forge and custom games! What a joke.

That ones obviously just a bug, I’m pretty sure they’re working on it.
> I didn’t do anything wrong, and you can’t prove it. Will you please reverse my ban?
> Our automated system builds up a digital case of wrongdoing before any ban is enacted. If you accidentally disconnect a time or two, you won’t get banned. Instead the system looks for patterns that can’t happen accidentally. If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong.
So I was told to come here. Anywho, I have to say the above quoted statement, while in theory may work, has failed me at least once in practice. I was disconnected from two FFA games in a row, both of which I was poised to win, and then received a 30-second matchmaking ban, as it was my first “offense.”
I quit one game this morning because the enemy team was to ******* try hards and I get banned
