The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

I was literally just playing a game where I was MVP and I completed the match and for some absurd reason this game decided that maybe I should get banned for doing exactly what the tell me to do, complete a match. what the hell halo 5. this is getting really -Yoink!- old and turns me away from the game. halo is my favorite game of all time and it honestly is just going downhill since Bungie left. congratulations Microsoft for trying to make halo as -Yoink- as call of duty.

Xbox Live rep doesn’t have any sway over Halo 5 bans. People with bad rep aren’t denied access to playlists, but they may experience slow matchmaking or not be matched at all depending on how bad their rep is. But Xbox Live reputation and getting reported via Xbox Live can’t get you banned from Halo 5.

So like… Shut down?

Toyota means to completely shut down the console. Do not just put it to sleep and restart it.

So like unplug it or something?

That would be one way or you can go into the menus and set it so that it turns off instead of goes to sleep when you power down. Pulling the plug on the power brick for a minute or so would probably be easier.

A hard reset/power cycle does mean shutting down the console and disconnecting it from the power source for like 10 seconds, then plugging it back in and turning it on.

My halo 5 crashed for some odd reason and now I’ve got a 5 hour ban… My internet hasn’t been the greatest either this past week and I’ve had a lot of DNFs because of that but I was just wondering if there was any way I could be unbanned

Alright. Thanks for the help bud

No, unfortunately excessive disconnects are among the reasons why the system will ban you. You’ll just have to wait out your ban, and hopefully your internet’s quality will go back up. If your connection doesn’t improve, you should investigate why it’s bad and change settings to improve your connection.

I just wanted to play a game of SWAT before bed and as soon as my team won I was kicked and banned for 23 hours? 23 HOURS? I lagged out several times today(lots of people use my internet in my household) I literally just bought an xbox one s and this is my only game and I can’t go enjoy any multiplayer? are you kidding me? by the time i’m able to play again it will be time to sleep for work once again. So thanks, 343. What is the point in being so fussy for bans? and 23 hours is so freakin’ overboard.

I was banned for “quitting my fireteam” when the game would lagg out and boot me from matches, saying “your fireteam changed”. Any Help?

The ban you are currently experiencing (the 23 hour one) is not for completing your most recent SWAT game. It was likely triggered by the previous SWAT game, which was a DNF. Also looking at that game specifically, it shows that you were the only one who DNF, and your personal performance in the game was not too good. This suggests that your leave was intentional, as opposed to a disconnect. Also, you said you “lagged out” several times, but you only had 2 DNFs since 8/28/2016 on your record. Based on your game history, it seems that you finish most of your games. However, instead of frequency of quitting, maybe the system picked up on that you quit that game because you were doing bad, and banned you for that trend. I’m only speculating, of course.
Now, a 23 hour ban is pretty long, and usually a first ban would not be so long. Have you been banned before? You do have DNFs spread throughout your record, and there are some games where you DNF that are close together, which could have caused a previous, shorter ban.

So what happened today was, I play a game of breakout. It is extremely laggy with players bouncing around and my shots not landing where I want them to, so I quit because it was frustrating and unplayable. I play a game of strongholds with no lag, no problems. Game ends, “Victory” flashes on my screen, then I get returned to the lobby unexpectedly with a red triangle and “!” on every playlist. I try to select one “You have been banned from matchmaking”. Back out to the main menu, select Arena, only then do I get the “Banhammer strikes” notification.

However the game regularly disconnects me from its servers, sometimes with no error message at all, and through no fault of my own (I have high speed broadband with a moderate nat type). I have quit a few games in the past but I do not make a habit of it and quit only when real life is more important or, like today, if it is unbearably laggy (again, I have high speed broadband and I wasn’t using up bandwidth, so it’s not my fault). I do not idle, deliberately betray or suicide.

Thankfully, it’s my first offence and only for a few minutes, but now I no longer have a clean record and I’m worried of getting wrongfully banned in the future because of 5’s temperamental servers.

Once again I get kicked out of match and now I’m banned, I haven’t quit any games in the past few days your servers are kicking me out and then you ban us this is ridiculous

I’m banned for 24 hours and your server kicked me out? Forget this game I’m done with Halo , 343 does nothing but let us complain on a forum while you wannabe employees post comments like you should fix this or the rules this, this is bs screw this game

What you experienced was the “late banhammer”, which pretty much everyone who gets banned experiences. You were not banned for the Strongholds game you completed; you were banned for the previous Breakout game that you quit. The banhammer just took 1 extra game to catch up to you, and when it did, it booted you as soon as your next game was over. This is why your Mongoose Sumo game shows as completed (a Victory) in your history; that game was finished and despite being booted right after “Victory” appeared, that game won’t count against you. Only the Mantis Breakout game was a DNF.
I would say that in the future, even if games are super laggy, try not to quit, so that when you absolutely have to quit for emergencies, the system is less likely to ban you.

In the past I’ve left games and been banned for it (average 20-40 mintues).

However now, I’m getting banned at no fault of my own. The game keep saying “LEFT FIRETEAM”, “DISCONNECTING” and “UNABLE TO MATCH”. I’m not the only person having this issue. Many of my American buddies also have had this issue over the weekend.

I don’t know if this is the right thread where to ask this, and in the case I’m in the wrong one I apologize, but how 343 know if someone is ruining (griefing) the fun for others? I mean, if you quit they probably have a bot that counts how many times you leave and then swing the hammer for them, since I love playing grifball I know that you can be betrayed, and if someone is doing it on purpose at least you can boot the player (right or not, it’s not the point here), so, as I said I love grifball, and I have the proof that a player and his friends repeatedly do spawnkill, in those matches I simply couldn’t do anything because as I was respawned they killed me (and my teammates of course), it hasn’t been funny at all, I fell like Jack Cucchiaio, but my ginosaji was in group and had a gravity hammer instead of a spoon, so he killed me over, and over, againg, and again (and again…); what could I do? Quit? No, because if I did it I would be banned, so I want to know, how can justice be bestowed upon them? Thanks in advance.

Well you should receive a Boot Player request if they keep betraying you. You can also report that person to XBOX Live…might not be instant justice but its a start

It just -Yoinking!- happened again. What the hell is going on?

SORT THIS OUT 343, its embarrassing!
