The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

what about team killing in griffball? I mean getting kicked or banned in that game mode seems a little excessive. I’ve been playing griffball since halo 3 and have never been kicked or banned because its almost impossible to unintentionally kill a team mate

I finish games then right at the end i get connection lost and it thinks I have quit and it bans me? happens all the time i know have a 24hr ban effectively for finishing games? I thought this kind of bs was not supposed to happen with " dedicated servers " or was this just another stupid marketing gimmick used just like the trailers? C’mon guys MCC was bad enough dont drop another stinker

To all the people complaining it’s unfair they’ve been banned for “unintentional disconnections” rather than “intentional quitting”, sorry but you still deserve the ban. IF you’re telling the truth about accidental network disconnects, that’s unfortunate, but the effect on the other players in the game (they’re now down a player) is the same. So, you need to figure out how to fix your network connection. It’s true that the servers are glitchy sometimes, but not enough to get you banned unless you’re also doing something else bad.

People need to realize something – the banhammer isn’t a “punishment” for unsporting behavior. It’s a tool to discourage quitting or disconnections, whatever the cause, and therefore MAKE THE GAME MORE FUN FOR THE OTHER PLAYERS WHO DIDN’T QUIT.

In short - the banhammer is to HELP those players who stay in every game, play like good sports, and actually try to win, whatever their skill level. It ruins the game for those players when other people quit, betray, idle, disconnect, etc.

If I get banned multiple times(Griftball) does the duration of my previous ban increase or does it reset?

How does it make sense that I was banned 3 or 4 matches after quitting only one game? I’m sorry, its not like I quit every other match I’m in or I’m idling all the time. Seriously? That’s literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever had happen to me in a game. I’ve literally quit 4 or 7 matches in a row in Halo 4 because my friends and I kept getting split up and never got banned. I quit 5 matches in a row because of poor connection in the MCC and never got banned once. I quit one f***ing match and I have to wait a half hour? Can someone explain that one to me?

How does that make sense though? If someone has poor internet connectivity for some reason and keep getting dropped out you just expect them to stop trying to play so people won’t lose a team member if they get disconnected? That’s totally backwards thinking, “let’s punish people because their ISP sucks but they’re fans and are just trying to play and enjoy our game that we made for them, but screw them for unintentionally disconnecting they deserve to be banned.”

Can you explain 5 dnf’s in your last 20 arena matches?
Have a check of your game history, it might explain your ban.

I don’t understand why I’ve been banned for 8 hours? As many games that I play and complete I shouldn’t be getting banned for this long

I’ve been banned twice (yes, twice) for “quitting too many games” after quitting my own private forge game. what’s up with that? the first time I had quit a single match before going into forge, and when I left I got banned. second time I just left a forge game and got banned. why.

What if Microsoft put in Quit bans for Forza Motorsport as well?

Too harsh?
Yesterday I wrongfully received a “ban hammer strikes” message, and posted my concerns somewhere in the forum. I was met with much ridicule and mockery from fellow gamers, suggesting that i was lying about my innocence. but what they didn’t realize is that the ban flag was lifted seconds after the prompt and i was able to continue to play multiplayer games in halo guardians (see game history). later I came back to post a " false alarm" reply here in the forum. but the posters were still in disbelief. what is wrong with you people?

Im not here to promote people to constantly quit games but here to inform you that in fact the “ban hammer strikes” message has wrongfully appeared in my game. Fortunately for me it was a self correcting bug and was able to immediately continue playing mp sessions. but i still don’t want that insulting message appearing in my game unwarranted. Mentally, it make me feel like someone has mistakenly swung a bat and hit me in the face type enforcement message; totally not professional imo. Yea it is annoying for players to sit idle and quit early, but im actually the person who is annoyed by that type of gaming behavior. Now after receiving that “ban strike” message, i don’t wish it to happen to even those who actually made the mistakes of leaving games and rage quitting; It made me very angry. At some point, I was happy to see some form of enforcement action against players who like to rage quit or constantly leave game idle, but it ruins all when it does not work properly, striking rule abiding players.

Also, to the people that likes come here to poke fun and mock players with legitimate ban complaints. I hope that a random player invites you to a laggy server causing problems retrieving data where you will receive a real “Ban hammer strike” for apparent bad connection resulting in multiple “dnf’s” how does that sound? Then when you come here to report the bug, you too will be met with absurd comments such as “you should never had quit the game” or “ha ha you got what you deserve, you quitter” or even “I see multiple dnf’s under your profile, who do you think you are fooling; sell your game you’re not fit to play halo”.

They claim that the “ban strike message” is error free, but my case proved that to be false. so folks keep laughing and while you think you are playing perfect mp sessions, 343 may hit you in the face with the mighty “BAN HAMMER STRIKES!!!” in error. Until people start to realize that some of these complaints are legitimate and hold halo responsible, ban strike messages sent to more rule abiding players will be inevitable imo.

How long do you have to be idle to get kicked from a game?

Yesterday I was kicked from two games for idling, the first game I was getting new batteries for my controller and the second game I spilled my drink and was getting some napkins to clean it up. My point is, those two events didn’t seem to take very long and I was surprised when I came back to see that I had been kicked without any sort of message.

P.S. I’m not upset that I was kicked, just wondering how long the timer is because it is much quicker than I thought.

I haven’t been banned but I wanna know why I’ve been able to freely quit without being banned since launch lol.

Thank you

Quitting a social game for an important phone call should not illicit a 47 min ban. My roommate leaving her 13th game in a row doesn’t deserve a 10+ hour ban. Seriously the multiplayer isn’t so good I’ll wait all day play. Banning for leaving a game is asinine. You should probably go back and redefine what a habitual quitter is.

Is there a button you can press to say that you’re quitting for an important phone call? No.
Quitting is quitting and a system has been implemented to cut down on it. I tend to not quit/betray/idle so I haven’t seen the results of this policy. I also wouldn’t be too upset if I ever do get the back end of it because its not my game and I also appreciate the efforts to cut down on the quitting.

Quitting 13 games in a row is the definition of habitual quitting, my friend.

Your roommate seems to fit that description, does she not? For her to reach a 10 hour ban, as explained in the OP, she would need to have been banned already as the ban system is incremental. Going by how it usually works, her last offence would be around 3 hours ban time so 13 quits in a row definitely fits for a 10 hour ban.

As for yourself, it’s always said that IRL stuff does happen and nobody will ever say much against that, but to get banned means you have quite more than 1 game. The system will never ban you for a single game but that 1 quit can and will be the trigger that causes the hammer to swing. At the moment you have about 5 or 6 DNF matches over the past week or so and another 6 back at the start of February, so your ban would appear to be justified as the system is picking up patterns of quitting.

I had an interesting drop from the servers last night. After a slow start to a game on the Rig I was kicked to the title screen. Even though I was connected to Xbox Live the game said that I was offline. The strangest part was that the game would not take any inputs. I could not select anything from the UI. Getting kicked and the game telling me I am offline happens about once a week (luckily not often enough to get me banned). However, this is the first time that the game semi-locked up.

Are you retarded? ITS THEIR -Yoink!- SERVERS THAT ARE THE ISSUE! I have perfect connection most (99%) of the time and I am regularly kicked. May I mention it is mainly grif ball. So before you blame other people for faults in a COMPUTER PROGRAM ( program’s can also fail and/or not work as intended) do your research. This is why I lose faith in 343. When ‘hammer storm is here’.

Why are you trying to diagnose this users mental status? Retarded is a medical diagnosis, not what you call someone you disagree with.
