One of my roommates got banned for a few minutes after a single disconnect - I checked his history and he hadn’t disconnected before. If a player is reported, does it get added to the “ban points” system? Also, is there a way to see if/when/why someone would be reported?

Reporting and bans are totally separate issues. Reporting via the Xbox Live service in no way influences the banhammer in Halo 5. You can go to https://enforcement.xbox.com/home/reputation to check to see what kind of reports have been filed against you on Xbox Live in the past 6 months.

So what if someone quits the match, in past Halo games the system would throw in a new player; it was a pretty good system to keep the games even. But now we quit a few matches and its like we’re getting thrown in jail.

While I will agree that sometimes giving a 15 minute ban or something makes sense for repeat offenders, that just isn’t the case most the time. Just look at my recent game history, I was struck with the ban hammer today because of one DNF. You can check it yourself.
> > > > > >
> > > > > > I don’t care who you are, there is absolutely no excuse to ban people like that for quitting one match (or even two for that matter). This system is seriously flawed because 343 took an easy route on this just to ban some people for no reason other than lack of intelligence. One day? Seriously. Pfft, it’s hard to defend Halo multiplayer with logic like this.

There are some people here that are banned for excessive disconnections. I have sympathy for them, but on the grand scale a disconnect affects the game as bad as quitting does.

And I haven’t had more than one DNF in over a month. I agree, people who excessively quit should be held accountable–but so should 343. And I’m not just not hearing anything from them. They don’t even respond to things like this, I could have been permanently banned from Halo 5 multiplayer for one DNF and all I could do is blow hot air in a forum… absolutely pathetic, regardless of your views on the banhammer.
>
>
> I’m not ignoring them, at the end of the day I can’t do anything about anyone’s bans.
>
> Like I said before, it’s not based on time, and it doesn’t reset. On two different occasions you’ve had 3 DNFs in one day. Chances are it sees that as a pattern. If there was a way to take it up to 343i, I’d be all for it. At the same time, it’d probably be full of people tried to get out of being rightfully banned. If we had a concrete way to see how the banhammer worked, this thread would be much smoother.
>
> Essentially, the banhammer is swinging so hard that there’s collateral damage, but my zero-tolerance thing is aimed at the actual target.
>
> Just like how Blackjack is implying that quitting is okay because JiP will take over (where that didn’t happen for most of the series.)
Well Blackjack and I seem to be a similar boat with our DNF matches. He’s had 4 DNFs in his past 40 matches, so he’s playing about 90% of his matches-- that shouldn’t warrant the banhammer. Now I don’t know of his history, but I do know mine. And one DNF shouldn’t result in a ban, and my 3 DNFs were two, almost three(!) months ago. If the system doesn’t have some sort of reset then there is another problem in itself.
Listen, I’m not sounding off on you or anyone else in this forum. But unfortunately there isn’t a customer support for things like this, and even then it’s a waste of time, I shouldn’t have to worry about being banned while I enjoy Halo. This is laziness on 343’s part–and as much as I can (and will) make my case known, at the end of the day it doesn’t matter and will get lost somewhere in this forum just like the other select few who are wrongly being banned.
But one thing is for certain, and it’s that banhammer needs to be changed or reformed. Because like I previously stated… blowing hot air in a forum isn’t a solution to my problem.

I couldn’t tell you what the banhammer’s logic is in your case, according to what I see you haven’t even completed a single multiplayer match.

Idk, it was as soon as I got the game installed. I think my friend may have left, but I don’t remember exactly. All I remember is rubber banding like crazy, getting my -Yoink- kicked, then getting banned.

What is the exact message you saw? Did it specifically say “ban”? 1v1 isn’t available in standard matchmaking, so that sounds like a custom game.

Like I said, I don’t remember exactly. It was a custom game, yes. I think it said ban, but… I don’t remember

You don’t get banned for custom games (at least, you’re not supposed to). Are you currently unable to go into matchmaking (Arena or Warzone)? Is your XBox Live Gold subscription current? Is Halo 5 purchased on your account?

Well, my Xbox live isn’t working because my internet is down. And halo 5 was in the middle of a big update so I can’t check. Yes I do have halo 5 with my account
Just got banned for nine hours because I accepted an invite in a social playlist. I say you should not be banned for quitting a social playlist due to the fac that there is join in progress.

While I have mixed emotions about quitting a social playlist, you left 6 games so far today.

I have not quit six games in one day. It is based on a reset time for the ban hammer. The less you quit the lower the timer is the next time you do quit. I know this doesn’t reflect well on me though, just facts.

There are still 6 DNFs on 8/11 (and two the day before) on your account.
- Warzone at Skirmish at Darkstar
- Slayer at Fathom
- Warzone at March on Stormbreak
- Warzone at Skirmish at Darkstar (again)
- Warzone at March on Stormbreak (again)
- Multi-Team at EdenSo either you quit, were disconnected, were really glitched out, or someone else was on your account.

Not once had I ever been disconnected from a match (and, just to be clear, I have never quit a match, ever, not even when it was 1 vs. 4), but in the past few weeks I’ve been booted mid-match with a “You left your Fireteam” error message (never mind that I wasn’t in a Fireteam) at least ten times. This is a recent phenomenon and it is not the fault of my ISP as my Internet has never gone down, and so surely must be Halo 5 server issues. Nevertheless, I’ve now been banned twice in the past few weeks, which is asinine. If 343i cannot distinguish between DNF’s caused by them vs. DNF’s caused by the player, then they should not be banning anyone.
> >
> > Having said that, DNFs are still plaguing Arena gameplay, and clearly 343i’s poorly thought-out solution of banning is both unethical and ineffective. They need to let us re-join matches we get disconnected from (and not penalize us for it), or implement JIP, which is a much better solution than the lopsided 1v4, 2v4, and 3v4 matches that have plagued the game since Day One.

Join in Progress has worked well for every other FPS I’ve ever played. It sure beats the alternative: lopsided routs that plague Halo 5.
Then make it optional and incentivizing (bonus XP or RP, for instance). Personally, I’d gladly opt in, as it means faster XP, faster RP, and a more balanced gaming experience. I’m so sick of dropouts ruining my Arena matches, especially when it’s now pretty clear that many of the dropouts are the Halo servers’ faults.

Dash boarded before joining the lobby. There is a difference than quitting mid game. Except for the first one you called out where I was getting farmed by unyshek and his scrubs. I take it you don’t solo que too often judging by your warzone k/d compared to arena stats.

Apparently not, because it’s still recorded.
Regardless, that only accounts for 2 of them, from today.
Also, your match with Unyshek only lasted for 5 minutes, and only one of them (not Unyshek) got more than 10 kills. You couldn’t have been farmed that hard.

Even if you dashboard before entering the game proper, once the lobby is formed and pressing B to exit matchmaking is no longer available, leaving counts as a DNF, which counts against you.

My friends lagged out and invited me to a different lobby. And in that 5 minute period we were already triple capped and they had phaetons outside our base.
