The official Halo 5 "Why was I banned?" thread

How many games did you disconnect from? Because you have 6 DNFs today and 4 more yesterday.

I don’t understand why the hell I was banned!!! I logged on and clicked a and out of nowhere, THE BAN HAMER STRIKES! Like why?

Click on your name and look at game history. You quit… a lot. That is why you are banned, old quits don’t go away and the bans get longer every time.

If you disconnect 10 times a day, the your connection is the problem.

I know quitting matches is not cool, but banning someone for days on end for quitting matches? What is this, Soviet Russia? So what if someone quits the match, in past Halo games the system would throw in a new player; it was a pretty good system to keep the games even. But now we quit a few matches and its like we’re getting thrown in jail.

343, please consider changing your punishment for quitting matches. Maybe have an x hour ban max (like 6 hours or something) for the banhammer. Or erase the counter each day so we don’t have to be banned for days (unless we’re not finishing a match ever).

I want to play your game but you’re not letting me…

No it wouldn’t. The game would continue with the team missing a player. The only time JIP was implemented was in Halo 4, and that’s partly the reason why games failed so much.

You’re warned every time you try to quit a match, and people are complaining that they actually enforce that warning.

Don’t quit and you won’t get banned. It’s called taking responsibility.

Ok, first ban. I have never quit a match, but occasionally I’ll get the ā€œyour fire team has changedā€ return to the menu. Well that happened randomly today, hit with 9 min ban. Is it normal to get banned after getting booted one time? I’ve been booted on occasion before but not too often. Anyway went to play warzone and during the gameplay I was taken to the load screen (the one with the knight) and it just froze there. This happened a few times again a couple with the ā€œfire team has changed thing againā€. Checked the connection and it says good. Anyone know what is going on? This is very frustrating. Are all of these ā€œlag outā€ or ā€œbootsā€ counting as quits? Again I’ve never quit a game on my own.

Your last 3 games all say DNF, along with two more today.

There has to be something wrong with your connection for it to consistently drop you.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe it is the connection. Yes those DNFs were from warzone. I tried to play it after the ban from slayer. Only one boot from arena got me the ban. Anyway I’ll try to play again tomorrow. Just strange since I’ve not been booted so much at one time.

It’s a video game, banning someone for more than 12 hours for quitting a match is f’in harsh, I don’t care who you are.

And you are to abide by the rules of said video game as they are clearly outlined to you, or else face the consequences. If you don’t agree with the rules, then don’t play the game.

You aren’t banned for more than 12 hours for quitting a match. You’re banned for more than 12 hours for quitting multiple matches.

If you can’t take responsibility for something as menial as a ā€œvideo gameā€, how do you expect to take responsibility for something that actually matters?

I’m going to have to disagree with you because I see you throughout your posts having a zero-tolerance on quitting matches. While I will agree that sometimes giving a 15 minute ban or something makes sense for repeat offenders, that just isn’t the case most the time. Just look at my recent game history, I was struck with the ban hammer today because of one DNF. You can check it yourself.

I don’t care who you are, there is absolutely no excuse to ban people like that for quitting one match (or even two for that matter). This system is seriously flawed because 343 took an easy route on this just to ban some people for no reason other than lack of intelligence. One day? Seriously. Pfft, it’s hard to defend Halo multiplayer with logic like this.

No, I have a zero tolerance on quitting excessive matches. Even I quit a match once every week or two, but I have never once been banned. There are some people here that are banned for excessive disconnections. I have sympathy for them, but on the grand scale a disconnect affects the game as bad as quitting does.

Before this thread was created, people would flood the forums saying they were wrongfully banned, until they realized their game history was public.

And there are plenty of 10-30 minute bans that were given. You don’t jump straight to a 6 hour ban on your first try, unless that banhammer is seriously broken and should be fixed.

As for your situation, was that your first ban? Because back in June you had 3 bans in one day, and again in May. I don’t know exactly how the banhammer works, but it doesn’t just reset after a period of time.

Again, I can understand people who quit 5, 10, 15+ games daily. But I only had one DNF. What I’m saying is that their logic on the banhammer needs to be reformed, why would they hold something that happened months ago against them?

And yes, I believe I did have a day or two where my WiFi was iffy and I had around 3-4 DNFs, but we’re talking about two months ago. I’ve had one DNF in the last week-- it’s time for 343 to be accountable when it comes to things like this.

The banhammer isn’t perfect, and I never tried to show that, but it’s certainly doing it’s job on the people it needs to strike down the most.

But like I said, the banhammer is mostly based on patterns or something. It’s not like dropping the game for a week or two will reset it completely. I’m assuming it’s also partly tied to the number of matches played as well.

While I will agree that sometimes giving a 15 minute ban or something makes sense for repeat offenders, that just isn’t the case most the time. Just look at my recent game history, I was struck with the ban hammer today because of one DNF. You can check it yourself.

This system is seriously flawed because 343 took an easy route on this just to ban some people for no reason other than lack of intelligence. One day? Seriously. Pfft, it’s hard to defend Halo multiplayer with logic like this.

There are some people here that are banned for excessive disconnections. I have sympathy for them, but on the grand scale a disconnect affects the game as bad as quitting does.

It happens to get the job done with those who excessively quit, but you can’t just ignore the select situations like mine where I’ve quit once in my previous 10+ matches. And I haven’t had more than one DNF in over a month. I agree, people who excessively quit should be held accountable–but so should 343. And I’m not just not hearing anything from them. They don’t even respond to things like this, I could have been permanently banned from Halo 5 multiplayer for one DNF and all I could do is blow hot air in a forum… absolutely pathetic, regardless of your views on the banhammer.

So what if someone quits the match, in past Halo games the system would throw in a new player; it was a pretty good system to keep the games even. But now we quit a few matches and its like we’re getting thrown in jail.

I’m not ignoring them, at the end of the day I can’t do anything about anyone’s bans.

Like I said before, it’s not based on time, and it doesn’t reset. On two different occasions you’ve had 3 DNFs in one day. Chances are it sees that as a pattern. If there was a way to take it up to 343i, I’d be all for it. At the same time, it’d probably be full of people tried to get out of being rightfully banned. If we had a concrete way to see how the banhammer worked, this thread would be much smoother.

Essentially, the banhammer is swinging so hard that there’s collateral damage, but my zero-tolerance thing is aimed at the actual target.

Just like how Blackjack is implying that quitting is okay because JiP will take over (where that didn’t happen for most of the series.)
