So I’m really new to the game. I die a lot, still learning maps and weapons. Yesterday I got a 24 hour ban for I think dying too much…? I never quit games and I don’t grief. Not too sure what happened honestly. Would it be possible for one of you guys to tell me what I did? Last thing I saw before the ban was the message “unnatural selection” during a round of super fiesta on some map with lava.

This means the game issued a temp ban against you for intentional suiciding. Suiciding too much in Halo will result in getting kicked from a game, and eventually temp bans; this is to maintain balancing and prevent potential exploitation. Be careful when playing, especially as a new player, so that you don’t continuously kill yourself. Load up maps in custom games and walk around them to learn where the hazards are. And in games where you have access to explosive weapons, be careful so you don’t blow yourself up. In this way, you will start to become an asset to your team, instead of a detriment.
today i went on forge almost instantly after turning my xbox on and i quit a FORGE game and i have been told i have been banned for 24 hrs and i didnt even enter the arena

You have five DNFs of your first ten games, one from today, the 25th. The following page has four DNFs.
So out of 20 games since the 21st of July, you have 9 DNFs.
You didn’t get banned for quitting a Forge session, but the banhammer can be wonky when it delivers bans.

> I am banned for 4 days because I quit out of a Free-For-All match. 4 DAYS? If I am not having fun I should have the right to leave the game and find another match, especially if I paid 60 DOLLARS! Besides, when I leave an FFA match, it doesn’t negatively affect my team. You know why? BECAUSE THERE ARE NO TEAMS! The punishment for leaving that game type makes no sense and is completely absurd. If anyone at 343 is reading this, please reduce my ban, or remove it entirely. I paid good money and I can’t even play the game how I want or when I want. The whole system needs a complete overhaul. I’m really considering returning the game or boycotting future titles entirely because of this.
Are you sure you were banned for 4 days? Check the first post in this topic in case you are reading the time wrong. If it is 4 days then that means you have already been banned numerous times to reach a ban of the length. Paying for the game doesn’t mean you get to do whatever you want - you pay for a license to play the game and will be allowed to do so as long as you abide by the matchmaking rules et out by 343 and Microsoft.

> I was just banned not long ago (first time banned) . It was a very short ban period but I just want to know if this will negatively affect my account. I disconnected from a match and this was my first time doing so and got the ban notification after a custom game match and I also did suicide on accident a couple times during my matches today. In the past there was the accidental team kills by running over a teammate with a vehicle or grenade throw (These team kills don’t happen often) . Again I just want to know if and how this will affect my account if at all. Thank you.
It will affect your account, but if it’s not something that happens often and it’s not a noticeable pattern that the ban system would pick up on, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

> The following FAQ should answer some of your questions about Halo 5 bans. We will update this FAQ as necessary.
>
> I received an in-game message saying I have been banned. Why?
> If you are checking this page because of an in-game message, it is likely that you have been banned for violating the terms of use and/or committing a code of conduct violation. It is also possible, in the case of an especially egregious violation, that your Xbox One system itself is now banned from Matchmaking. The duration of this ban is based on the type, frequency or nature of the committed violation. In most cases, Custom Games will still be available. In extreme cases, they will not.
>
> How can I tell how long I was banned for?
> Ban duration will be shown on the red ban screen as the ban hammer strikes. First offences are generally low and last only a few minutes, but will increase in duration incrementally with each subsequent ban. The ban timer itself displays times as follows -
> Days : Hours : Minutes : Seconds
>
> What types of actions can result in a ban?
> Types of violation include, but are not limited to, the following example actions:
>
> - Modifying your Xbox One hardware or game software and services in any way.
> - Idling through games, habitual quitting/suiciding/betraying, or any other type of unsociable and unsportsmanlike behavior.
> - Impersonating a 343 Industries or Microsoft employee on Xbox LIVE with intent to defraud or cause harm to other players.
> Why was I banned for winning a match / quitting one match / quitting a custom game? *
> You weren’t. The ban system runs at least 1 game behind so your ban will have been placed for a previous offence. After completing your next event, whether it is a matchmaking game, custom game, forge session, spectating a friend or viewing theatre, the system will then show you a message telling you that you have been banned. As it takes more than a single offence to earn a ban you will never be banned for leaving one match, it will be multiple offences that have led to a ban being placed on your account.
>
> I shouldn’t be banned. My brother/sister/cousin/dad/mom/friend must’ve logged on with my account and done bad things. Will you please reverse my ban?
> If this is indeed the case, we do understand your frustration. However, it is your sole responsibility to keep your account information secure and not share it with others who would abuse it. We have no way of detecting who is playing with your account, and if your gamertag is caught making naughty, you will be banned. Those are the rules.
>
> I didn’t do anything wrong, and you can’t prove it. Will you please reverse my ban?
> Our automated system builds up a digital case of wrongdoing before any ban is enacted. If you accidentally disconnect a time or two, you won’t get banned. Instead the system looks for patterns that can’t happen accidentally. If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong.
>
> Will posting in this thread guarantee my ban will be lifted and that someone will respond personally to every post?
> Unfortunately, no. We simply don’t have enough eyes, ears and typing hands to respond to every single post. However, the community will help keep you honest. You have a public game history for everyone to see. If you post you were banned unjustly, the community is in their rights to check out your history to confirm or deny your claims. Please, just keep it clean.
>
> The purpose of this thread is to keep all questions pertaining to bans in one place. Without a megathread for such questions, the rest of the forum will almost certainly turn into a cavalcade of ban questions.
>
> If you were banned and think you have a case, this is the ONLY thread you should post in. If other moderators see posts pertaining to bans in other threads, they will either be deleted outright or a kind-hearted mod might just move the posts to this thread.
>
> If any users are caught habitually spamming ban threads in other threads, we will consider that a violation of the forum Terms of Use. You will risk being banned here as well. We don’t want to have to ban anyone, but we do want an open, honest and positive place to post about all things Halo, so a thread like this is necessary.

Maybe “the worst servers ever, of all time”,“an inefficient csr and matchmaking” and the fact that this game is full of bugs should be added as reason for being banned
“As it takes more than a single offence to earn a ban you will never be banned for leaving one match, it will be multiple offences that have led to a ban being placed on your account.” yes quitting twice over 60+ games is a very reasonable number of offences…
Your banhammer should deter and prevent people from quitting but the fact that it bans people midgame making them quit and leaving the team one man down is a testament to its (in)efficacy.
Good work on this 343. Keep it up and you’ll kill halo very soon.
This wasn’t a ban but I lost connection and lost an arena rp boost just because the game lagged out.

We’ve been over this. The first time you claimed to have only quit once and you had 8 out of 20 matches as DNFS before that and you have 2 out of your last 10 now. Since then you’ve argued that quitting was okay, despite the fact that it has a negative effect on everyone playing the match (your opponents don’t get a fair challenge and your team is short handed.) I’ve lost connection with the servers less than 5 times since launch. If you are actually losing connection as often as you claim and not quitting then you might want to call Microsoft support and trouble shoot with them. So in my opinion you are either being intentionally dishonest or you are not working to fix the problem.

It makes sense that the boost would be used up, otherwise if you were having a bad game and were using an ultrarare or legendary boost you would just have people disconnecting if they were having a bad game. I don’t know if that is the ‘official’ stance on the issue, but it makes sense to me.

I did not complain because I did get banned again and first time I posted here I wrote that I had quit only twice over the last 50 or 60 games. I argued that “sometimes” quitting is better if your presence is dragging down your team… And I did not mean to say that it is better for everyone since in same modes quitting gives an edge to your team and in others an edge to the other team… what I meant is that they should improve the matchmaking because if I am platinum 3 and I get to play with unranked players in my team or bronze players there is something wrong… the result is that I lose csr since individual performance is irrelevant in this game and that the less skilled unranked or bronze player gets 10+ negative kdr. I don’t like quitting but when you loose many matches in a row due to your squad lack of adequate skills is frustating and I say cos i have both the one dragging the team up and the one dragging the team down… I simply think it is better to leave the game rather give the enemy 15 easy kills while making just one or 2 that’s not team play that’s dragging the squad toward defeat. Of course in objective based modes like CTF and others quitting is bad for your team regardless of your skill.
While I have had some connection problems I’ve worked to solve them in fact I did not complain about my connection but when the game lags and I am on 100 Megabit connection the problem surely isn’t on my end…
In my opinion they should either make the hammer more soft or fix the matchmaking as in its current state the thing that drives people to quit is the game itself that puts you with people way over your skill or way below your skill.
H4 matchmaking was better IMO when it comes to match players with your skills… After a few months when my csr stabilized where I belonged I have never either one or lost a slayer match with scores like 50-30 it was always like 60-58 or 60-55 and even the players with negative kdr did go negative just a few kills not ever 5+.
And anyway not that you should care or anything like that but i did quit 2 consecutive games because after loosing 3 consecutive matches where i scored at least decently (not negative) i did quit but no said 343, i did go to play another swat match and i was taken back in that lobby again… WHY EVER MAKE ME PLAY WITH THE SAME PEOPLE I DID JUST QUIT FROM.

I think you’ve missed the point, so I’ll just say enjoy your ban. Try to understand that the same rules apply to you as everyone else. You are not special. You realized there were consequences for your actions and then chose to quit anyway. You now have to face the consequence, you knew were coming. If you don’t quit you won’t get banned. It also doesn’t make sense to attempt to be dishonest about your original post. It is their for everyone to see, and quoted in my post in case you decide to edit to suit your version of reality.

I did understand your point I just wanted to clarify my opinion as my earlier attempt at expressing myself was clearly poor. I just think that it would be easier and smarter understanding what causes people to quit and eliminate the problem at its roots rather than just punishing people. I am quite sure that if they overhauled the spawns and the matchmaking they would see a an high drop in game quitting. Also history shows that whenever an attempt at harsh repression was made in the end the oppressor did not end well. Since I do like this franchise I’d prefer not seeing it go down like this… If there is need for a banhammer it means that lots of people quit and if that is so there is a problem in the game.
And yes the last time I did quit i was aware of the consequences but evidently it did not deter me and neither the rest of the people that keep quitting.
I excuse for my precedent way of expressing myself.

If that’s the case, it sounds like the banhammer needs to be stricter.

2 out of last 10 Arena games are DNFs; 3 out of 10 for Warzone. I’m sure that there are more DNFs further back in your history if your ban is 24 hours. I won’t try to guess whether you really did lag out or not, but the system sees all DNFs as equal. I personally have only ever been disconnected from the game against my will once, and my internet package is pretty standard, so I do have my doubts about people who claim to have amazing internet yet many connection issues. I have never been banned, probably because I’ve never quit a game or intentionally break the matchmaking rules, so in my eyes the banhammer is working properly.
Also, threatening to never play the game again won’t do anything to entice 343i to look at whether your ban was legitimate, let alone reverse it. It only makes you seem immature.

Save for a few pages, you have 2+ DNF matches per page, didn’t count how far back, but a bit back either way.

I would never quit if hadn’t a team of unranked/low rank players 80% of the time.
IMO they should just fix matchmaking but if they have to go for banning people instead of fixing at least they should do it in a stricter and clearer way as I still did not understand how many “offenses” will get you banned.
Anyway did you even read my entire post?

You mean the part where you blame the system and compare 343i’s banhammer to oppression? Yeah, I read that.

Just straight up banned for no reason. I play Halo to have fun with friends and make new ones. I cant do that when 343 has ruined Halo multiplayer with this -Yoink- banning. Fix your -Yoinking!- -Yoink-. Get rid of the a banning system. Bungie made a wonderful games and amazing multiplayer. Then 343 steps in and ruins everything about multiplayer. The game is rated M. 17+ Its not some -Yoink- kiddy game. If someone leaves a match, fine. Suck it up. And play the -Yoinking!- game. If people like myself are getting banned for no reason other then your stupid -Yoinking!- robot decided to have fun ban at random. Then -Yoink- 343. -Yoink- Halo 5. -Yoink- everything. Iv’e had enough. At this point… I don’t care anymore. Take my post down if you want… But if I get banned for no -Yoinking!- reason again, when I complete a match and plan on playing again. Then -Yoink- it… Halo is dead to me. 343… -Yoink- you.

> You sound a tad upset my little princess.
And you sound like a child trying to fit into his fathers pants after he killed himself.
I was banned for leaving a match for 15 minutes. After that, I kept getting banned for no reason. It started with 20 minutes, then 40 minutes, and finally 3 hours! (This was in arena btw). Is anyone expierencing the same isuses?
Man the servers are complete garbage now. It’s either full of exploiters and cheaters or the servers have too much -Yoink- on them or downloaded. Cause it’s broken
