The numbers of Reach and Halo 3 being played in first year.

http://metahalo.com/population/

This is showing the first couple months of both games populations, as you see Halo Reach has over 4 times the average that Halo 3 did. If it’s such at terrible, hated game. Why would OVER 4 TIMES the amount of people play it?

edit: nvm

awe now i’m so curious as to what you said.

I didn’t scroll down far enough, and neglected to see the Halo 3 numbers.

:stuck_out_tongue:

First of all population means nothing other then the fact of how many people own the game .Example compare COD 4 population to MW2 population and you’ll see MW2 populations soar above COD 4 populations even though if you ask most COD fans they’ll admit that MW2 was nowhere as good as COD 4. Also seeing how much the population of Xbox live has grown since back in 2007 you would expect for halo to recieve a large amount of that player base which it hasn’t because back in 2007 and throughout 2008 Halo 3 was almost always near the tops of the charts but if you look at reach you’ll see that it’s just keeps dropping on the xbox live charts just a years after its release.

TLDR: If the amount of people with Xbox’s increases so will the amount of people playing halo, but reach is being played by a much smaller percent of live owners now then Halo 3 was back in 2008.

Thats only because how good halo 3 was, everyone got hyped for reach

Its ironic actualy…now the numbers are 1/4th of what they used to be.

Once everyone realized how crappy it was, they stopped playing.

/thread.

The numbers are in Unique players a day. Not online at a time. If you read more and look at the facts you can make much more valid arguments. /this guy

Your title to this topic SHOULD be, The population numbers for Halo Reach in its first year, and for Halo 3 in its fourth year. Don’t even think for a second that HR is more popular after a year than halo 3 was after a year.

for the last time the h3 one is from 2007-08

> for the last time the h3 one is from 2007-08

Explain how it states this at the top of your link

This is a small project to track the daily population for both Halo Reach and Halo 3 to see how they’re impacted by the release of other games. Every night at midnight PST since October 29th, a small script records the 24-hour population for both games. The following charts are generated from the data via Google’s chart API.

Didn’t we already have this argument?

Your chart isn’t true. Those numbers are from Reach and Halo 3 in 2010.

Since the charts seems to be from 2010-'11, these numbers can’t show the comparison between H3 and Reach.

Nice try. Reach’s numbers are actually on the rise now. A few weeks ago, it peaked at 75,000 players, now it’s up to 90,000.

In addition, Reach has a lot more competition than previous titles. It use to be that major releases happened, at best, once a month, with minor releases here and there. Now, we have a major release every week or two, and dozens of minor releases in between.

And even through that, and even when the population was the lowest, you could still find a match faster than most games out there.

The population rised because of people playing the Anniversary gametypes. of course the population would grow for a while because some people love the 3SK pistol, like me.

but to my point : Halo Reach’s population dropped alot in the very first weeks after release.

Halo 3 had the same amount of competition as Reach. The competition just got better (CoD, Gears, Elder Scrolls, FIFA, Madden, Battlefield, etc.)

The population is still lower than 3’s at its height. That’s what we are arguing about here.

And I think the TU should be tanked for helping to bring back players. I introduced my friends to TU yesterday, and they haven’t played in a while. They don’t dare go back to Default, and are happy for the TU.

Also, there’s Anniversary. Which was bound to bring back some players/maybe introduce new ones.

A lot factors.

It’s been a while since the TU and Anniversary. While they did have some positive effects on the population, to say they alone are what’s driving the numbers up is daft.

Halo 3 had no where near the competition that Halo Reach has. Halo 3’s biggest competition was COD4, a competitive title that in no way resembled it’s successors. Now, come MW2, Halo 3’s numbers dropped significantly.

Halo Reach has had much more serious competition than it’s predecessors. It has to fight MW3, Black Ops, Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3, and that’s just multiplayer titles. You cannot ignore the dozens of games that come out every month, more than any year prior, and of much higher quality than in the past.

Yet again, my post is being ignored. I get used to it.

This is showing both games’ population at the exact same time, not the population of Halo 3 back in 2008 compared to Reach now, which would both be around a year after release. Therefore, this is inaccurate. Also, Live has grown in population over the years, and whether the next game in a series is better than the last or not, the bulk of a population will move to the newer regardless, because that’s just how it works. I found Halo 3 to be way better than Reach but I don’t go back and play it as much as I do Reach simply because of population and netcode. Otherwise I’d be playing Halo 3 exclusively. So in two or three counts, these charts mean absolutely nothing as far as the better game.

First, i didn’t say that it was the only reason. i said it helped, and that there were many other factors.

Second, FIFA is the same every year. Yet it’s beating Reach. The competition is the same. Everyone else just stepped up there game.

Yes we get it already. More people played H3 than Reach.
