Given Bungie’s interesting fascination with the number, and that they have now left the series to work on projects new and old (Oni HD was announced just now), what can we expect of 7 in the future of Halo? Obviously all the old references will remain for the sake of canon, and I assume that very few new references will be made. If the number 7 does appear anywhere in new Halo fiction from now on, it’ll be as arbitrary as any other number.

He is trying to say that 7 to the third power = 343… as in 343 industries… the new makers of halo…
And if you think about it, that makes sense. that is where they got their name. they were the third major company to work on halo. Bungie-Ensemble Studios-343i

Yes, that’s exactly what I meant with canonical references not being changed. John will always be Spartan 117, the Monitor of Installation 04 will always be 343 Guilty Spark, there will always be 7 rings in the Halo Array after Mendicant Bias attacks the Forerunner citadel, and the Gravemind of Installation 05 will always speak in iambic heptemeter. That will never change because it’s already established lore.

No… it would end at Halo 7. Only 3 released games have followed the Master Chief. Halo 4 will be the fourth.
