The Next Halo Novel?

I’m wondering what you guys would want the next Halo novel to be about? Personally, I’m really hoping they release a new collection of short stories like ‘Evolutions’ to expand the story a little more than just post-Halo 3 stuff. Maybe we can get a short story about the characters from Halo 3: ODST, the San’ Shyuum-Sangheili War, the characters from Halo Wars, or something from that Rainforest War I keep reading about on Halopedia and Halo Nation. If anyone can tell me where that’s even from I will gladly appreciate it.

I am personally done with prequels. I want something set in the present timeframe (2558-9, that is) that progresses the storyline and deals with the present conflict- be it Jul, the Flood, the Prometheans or what ever. It definitely shouldn’t be a must-read, though (I think that Sillentium and The Thursday War were must reads to understand Halo 4’s storyline).

Also, I want a Halsey POV again, and this time written by someone that doesn’t compare her to Mengale please. I loved the Kilo Five trilogy but the mischaracterization of Halsey was a seriously big flaw. And it didn’t help that all the POV characters kept calling her a “crazy -Yoink-”.

I hope they get a good writer. It’s supposedly coming out this Fall (which IMO implies something around October). I assume we’ll get more details on this and Nightfall in Comic Con, July 24-27.

I want a novel about present day Halo, no prequels set in the past. Something with the Spartan-IVs after the destruction of Requiem. Like a certain fireteam’s story on the Requiem campaign, or the whereabouts of an Elite caught between the ‘good’ Covenant and the ‘Storm’ Covenant.

And then just reading about Grunts is good fun.
Yayap survived. Don’t tell me otherwise.

A more in-depth look at the Forerunner-Human war.

The Rainforest Wars was a war in in the 22nd century in which the United Nations fought over different ideologies with other factions wanting independence taking place in South America’s amazon Forest. This is where the Insurrection and UNSC all originated.

Another “Evolutions” would be fantastic. Those short stories added sooooooo much to lore. They filled in a lot of holes, too. Another collection like that certainly has to appear in the future.

And hearing Jen Taylor read “Human Weakness”… I cried a little…
Okay, a lot. DON’T JUDGE ME!

I’d like a collection of short stories, preferably set on and around the current conflict.
Some of the missions the Spartan IIs were involved with.
Some of the missions the Spartan IIIs were involved with.
Various insurrectionist pivotal moments.
Even some of the early Spartan IV missions.

Try and collect up a bunch of solid background type work, which may have some pointers toward what is happening in Halo 5 (this is where the serious fans get the “ah, so that’s how it all ties together” moment during Halo 5), which can happily be missed by more casual gamers.

That moment is one of the most rewarding.

A series of short stories would be nice. A few ideas that come to mind:

Gabriel Thorne’s Journal: Included with the Limited Edition of Halo 4 was a packet with info on the UNSC Infinity and a journey entry written by Thorne. In it, he ponders the formation of the Spartan Branch and the history of the various Spartan Programs. Of course, we see this curiosity pique when he babysits Dr. Halsey, and he asks her about the Spartan-IIs. I would love a short story, formatted like a journal, that follows Thorne’s “investigation”, both on Infinity, and leading up to Halo 5. Maybe even have a pre-Infinity entry that described his Spartan augmentation and training.

Sangheili Civil Conflict: A story that looks at, with a broad view, the Sangheili civil conflict that has been developed. See what the Servants of Abiding Truth are up two, see what Rtas 'Vadum and Thel 'Vadam are up two in the years between the Kilo-Five Trilogy and Halo: Escalation.

Jul 'Mdama story: A story that follow Jul founding his new Covenant, then his activities on Requiem, what he was up two during the 6 months between Halo 4’s campaign and Spartan Ops, and what he’s doing between Halo 4 and 5. I’d love to see what he thinks of Halsey, and what the two might be doing.

So yeah, just some quick ideas.

I would like to see a future Halo book written. However, one that doesn’t ruin the plot endings for the final Halo game.
Like, for example, in Halo Reach, there is a scene from 2580-something where Halsey is describing the war. Perhaps something from this time, but which doesn’t give away the ending to the current Halo game series.

^This, or to do one on the Rainforest War would be interesting. Perhaps delve closer to our time: a link between now and 2500 would be fascinating.

It would be really cool to read a book that deals with the formation of the UEG. With the little bits of lore that we are getting in the bulletins, we know that the UEG was formed as a solution to a great problem. There is a lot of potential for story here…

IDK why so many people want revisits to the past or first visits to events in past for a major addition to the Universe. It’s fine for smaller things - or if it really connects - but I want to move the lore forward.

That’s why short stories are an excellent way to satisfy the hunger for those of us who want to explore a little more of the stuff that happens before the Human-Covenant war.

A novel about John between 4 and Guardians.

We need to know the situation with the Covenant refugees in Rio de Janeiro.

I’d be intent with a novel that focuses on/acknowledges the existence of races that aren’t called Sangheili.

A novel about The Rainforest Wars or the build up to Far Isle. Those who do not learn or read about the past are doomed to repeat it again.

I had completely forgotten about that! This is why we need another short stories collection (since I’m not sure such a thing would justify a whole book).

“They are about to give it powers that it never had before. Those who ignore history… Are doomed to repeat it.”

That line from Cryptum will always be a torch to follow.

I would like to read more about the adventures of Blue team. (Fred, Kelly, Linda, Lucy, ect.) I know it is probably cliche, but I would like to know more about them. And hope they are able to retire after everything.
Also, maybe something giving hints of Bornstellars return?
And Soren and how he survived the crash and the glassing of Reach. (I think he survived anyway, that was by far my favourite short story.)
I wanna see something in the POV of a civilian, they tend to have more character. (Like Ackersons brother in the graphic novel.)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand lastly, I would like to see something about a Sangheili that may not be a warrior.
So any of those I would like to see.
