When I say new types, I don’t just mean new skins or just any new map. Over all Halo’s the main thing about the bigger maps was the sheer size of the outdoors part along with two small bases. Those are good, but I think Halo needs new types of maps to accommodate for more players and give a nice variety in what a player can do.
The map style that Halo needs for BTB is also a basic and common theme among maps.
I think Halo needs a map somewhat similar or rather more based off Sandtrap. A map with a center favoring infantry while the outskirts or outside is dominated by tanks and vehicles. The heavy and slow moving vehicle like the Wraith and Tank should have a protective area to cover them from behind so banshees and other air units can’t destroy them too easily, while giving them a view of like 40-60% of the outer part of the map. I say 40-60% because I wouldn’t want a map that favors the tanks fighting each other right away and immediately turning it into a one-sided game if one tank should and probably would come out alive.
To accommodate for air units without making it also one-sided right away is that I believe that there should be a wall like a forerunner building cutting off direct access from one side to another. There should be two or three tunnels that the air units would have to go through to get to the other side or just have to go around the forerunner object completely. If one air unit goes to the other side to spawn kill or try to dominate the map the tank belonging to that side would have an advantageous view to shoot it down.
Smaller sized vehicles like the Revanent, Mongoose, Warthog, Ghost, and possibly others would be faster and so there would be a few structures to give them cover should they go to the enemy’s side.
I believe this would make for a good map allowing for skill and coordination to be needed in order to truly take advantage of what you have. This would probably be meant for a more competitive BTB, but the interior could be sealed off to make it either a race type map, regular slayer type map, or some kind of objective based map.
I honestly am not very good with small map design, I mostly forged larger maps on Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4. I might make a prototype version on Halo 4 or Reach and put it on my File Share if I have the time.
