> For a long time now we have speculated at what the next halo game might be and personally I think it will be halo wars 2. Why you ask? Well from a couple minutes research backs up this theory quite a bit. Here is the evidence I put forward.
>
> 1. Recently there was a Microsoft Job listing in a AAA Strategy Development for a “Well loved Franchise” There are not many AAA Strategy games owned by Microsoft and saying that the franchise is “Well Loved” Hints at halo ever so slightly.
Don’t count on it. Halo Wars is part of the Halo IP, and therefore not a well loved franchise on its own.
No, there are two real possibilities really.
1: Age of Empires.
That WAS a franchise and it was massively popular back in its days. AoE 2 is still considered one of the best RTS games ever. It’s spin off Age of Mythology was pretty darn epic as well. Basically the sprititual predecessor to Halo Wars.
AoE was recently re-announced as a tablet/smartphone title. With the movement concerning that truely franchise at the moment I give AoE the best chance of returning.
Why Ensemble Studios was closed down still is a mystery to me.
2: Viva Pinata.
Yes…that was a strategy game. Well loved too. And Rare has shown interest in the past to revive the series. Would personally think this is most likely to happen. Its a game that is pretty easy to convert to Kinect controls and still work perfectly fine.
> 2. Phil Spencer said that making a Halo wars 2 is not entirely impossible.
True. But there has been more concrete interest in AoE and Viva Pinata.
> 3. The recent comics “Halo Escalation” has been leading to the build-up of seeing the Spirit of Fire again and what was the spirit of Fire known for in which game? Halo Wars.
Interesting. But still wouldn’t count on it too much.
> 4. Also a while back there was another job listing from Microsoft for “Map/Play-space Design” Having a good play space is essential in a Halo wars 2.
As are good maps in a FPS game. Or a better version of Forge that is more in line with a real map editor…
> 5. At E3 2013 I was announced that this halo will be a “Real Halo” and halo wars was a “Real Halo” It is also interesting to note that the game will play at 60 fps which would be easier to create from a AAA perspective.
Yet it also featured a post-H4 Chief very prominently. If it was a sequel to Halo Wars you would expect there to be more of a focus on SoF, Serena, Red Team, something like that.
> Now in this post I am not saying that halo wars 2 is confirmed but merely I am saying there is a lot of evidence pointing towards a “Halo wars 2” Personally I would love to see this as halo wars was one of my favourite halos ever.
I too love Halo Wars and would love to see it return, but I think we will get it later on.
My money is on Age of Empires 4. Based upon Halo Wars’ control scheme with additional Kinect voice controls to allow for true multitasking which would allow for more complex actions to be handled smoothly.
With a simultanious PC/XOne release in late 2015/early 2016.
AoE has a HUGE following, is really popular and iconic. Brining it back would earn Microsoft a lot more good headlines than a sequel to a niche game like Halo Wars.
