Considering Jul Mdama and his covenant are gone, who do you believe would be the next alien faction in Halo Infinite? His death left me wondering who would come in to fill the traditional role. Many believe believe it to be the Banished. But what if it’s someone else? What if it’s Sali Nyon and his followers. Many in Jul’s covenant and even in Thel’s Swords of Sangheilios held him in high regards as the next successor in Halo 5. Or what if it’s a whole new version controlled by the Created, 343 did have cyborg covenant members in the concept stage of Halo 5 so maybe it’s time to bring those into the games (which I think would be pretty cool).
Homestly, I wouldn’t have minded the covenant if it was still the brutes being maniacs, but that ship sailed in halo 4. I think the banished are the next best option. I just wish I knew if they beleived in the great journey or not. I knew they were cast away but it didn’t seem like it was religious reasons or not.
I think they could even do some good drama that brings Arbiter to the forefront - have a faction of the Swords that disagreed with his handling of the events of Halo 5. That could only work if they really improve the dialog that Arbiter has to Halo 2 / 3 levels, though.
Or, ya know? They could just get those creative juices flowing and do a different alien threat that works its way into the universe. Ancient humans, or a race that worships ancient humans like the covenant did the Forerunner and believes that we are a pale comparison to the ancient humans maybe? I know they were heading towards an AI battle extravaganza lol But I don’t know if I want to battle a bunch of AI which are basically shimmery, whiny humans when we get down to it. It’s been done.

I keep losing hope for infinite if the main bad guy really is some robot overlord. This would be welcome.
Assuming 343i doesn’t just give the Banished that role (which I think would be a bad call), it seems likely that the Covenant will be reformed under The Created as their allies and/or worshipers due to their involvement with the Guardians. In terms of established lore factions, The Keepers of the One Freedom could be a good pick.

Oh I like this idea quiet alot.
To fit in with the current Halo Timeline, the Banished will be most likely our new alien foes.
I thought it might be the banished, but I’m now leaning toward it being a Created led “Covenant” faction. Cortana’s message to the galaxy seemed to imply that at least some former Covenant species will join her. The Grunts already have for example.
The Keepers of the one Freedom and Sali Nyon’s faction are still around, and may end up joining Cortana’s forces. From a story perspective that would be a good way to explain who joined her instead of just saying half the Brutes, etc.
Having a new “Covenant” backed up by Promethean constructs would be nice. And that would leave room for the Banished to be a 3rd faction.
Yeah, none of that makes sense to me. I’m a simpleton that just wants to fight Covies. Whether they look blue or red, that’s fine by me.
There already is a new covenant - The Created. Here to take care of all that is alive.
