Yeah okay this new progression system is really good. There’s actually several reasons it’s kinda’ genius so let’s outline that…! First off, the six games give you collective 1k XP regardless of performance. You are guaranteed a level up for the day as a result.
That’s great! Win/Loss doesn’t matter, you’re progressing because you’re logging on for six matches. Funny that, by the way, you know how long that takes? About an hour. You know what else lasts an hour? The 2x XP bonuses. You’re probably getting where this is going.
That might seem predatory but it gets a lot better. You tend to get XP boosters pretty often in the battle pass, so you’ll usually have one lying around. So excluding challenges, you can get around two levels per day using a booster. But save those for weekly challenges! Win or lose, you get XP, so consider boosters a challenge helper on the side. But let’s do some math.
With no boosts or challenges, it’d take 100 consistent days of play for reaching the end of the battle pass. But, with boosters that’d lower to 50 days, right? Well, no. There are 19 XP boosters in the pass. So out of the 100,000 XP you need to max out, those will now get you a guaranteed 48,000 XP. Which is pretty good! takes care of nearly half the Battle Pass. You get that XP in 24 days, too.
That leaves 52,000 xp, so, 52 days. Minus challenges, we’re at 74 days of daily play before the battle pass is maxed out. But, there IS more. My sample size is low, but my girlfriend helped me get the data for this… Assuming the weekly capstone challenge is 300xp, weekly challenges are worth 5,000 XP. So… double that, you get 10,000 XP.
So a doubled week of play, would be worth 17,000 XP - 17 levels. But, we have finite boosters from just the battle pass alone - 19.
So. Combining all this… 12k XP / wk that the 7k portion of can be guaranteed doubled (since challenges are case by case, we cannot average this through time so it will be inconsistent.) You can get -up- to, theoretically, 24k XP / wk. But likely under that. Now with 19 XP boosts, you can get just under three weeks of boosted XP. Based on my math…
It’ll take you anywhere from 6-7 weeks to just under 15 weeks to hit 100. But my math is extremely faulty! There’s a lot of unaccounted for variables and imprecision near the end.
The point is, at the end of the day… You don’t have to play 1000 matches anymore. You don’t even have to play 2000 anymore. You play a fraction of BOTH of those. At this moment, progression is REASONABLE. Battle Passes like this are meant to last about three months, but Season 01 will be very long, about six months, according to 343i. Some of us will finish the Battle Pass in less than two months. Some, it will take just three months. If you’re regular, you should be able to go through every pass as they come out.
Do I advocate for Battle Passes? No not really, but progression is now reasonable and paced in line with the expected lifetime of each season. Of which, we will get 40 through Infinite’s projected life. None of this accounts for confirmed Campaign based XP btw.
But for a free to play game, where the most you should spend is ~10 dollars per season for the battle pass, yeah. This is a very very good rate of progression.
Now what 343i has to do, is lower those Store prices because they are absolutely egregious.
