343 have said that there will be a new threat in Halo 4 and there has been alot of speculation that it could be the Forerunners.
Personally, I think it could be quite interesting if it was the Forerunners considering the “Forerunner - Prehistoric Human” war. Which the modern humans had no idea about.
What do you guys think it could be?
Read up on this. Frankly, it just wouldn’t make much sense for the enemy to be Forerunners. They aren’t an ancient evil.
Maybe cant wait till later this year to see what else gets revealed
we’re all thinking forerunners, I bet it will be something very surprising.

They may not be an ancient evil.
However it could still be very interesting for the enemy to be Forerunner.
Although, admittedly it would be a bit predictable.

It still wouldn’t make much sense. Even with the strained human-Forerunner relationship, the Forerunners still did save us and set us aside as a special race that can control their technology. That and Chief would stand no chance to a full-fledged Forerunner warrior in their advanced combat armor that outranks MJOLNIR considerably.
343 confirmed that sprint will be the main antagonist in Halo 4.

I agree, and I’m not saying that it should be the Forerunners however I would be interested to see how 343 would deal with them as a threat.
Maybe the could add some complexity to the who the actual enemy is, rather than just the typical “That is the enemy, shoot them” scenario. I think it could be very interesting to have ‘shifting alliances’ throughout the story.
Anyway, I hope they don’t just come up with a new alien race to fight.
Also, 343 have said that there have been changes made to the Chief’s armour, however if these are drastic enough to withstand a Forerunner…
Well, from all the links I’ve researched,I’ve narrowed it down To:
1.Precursors (Most Likely option, all signs point to Precursors…)
2.The Diadect (Most likely not enemy, but will probably be very significant in the new trilogy)

A shifting alliance scenario doesn’t really warrant itself now. The Precursors are set to return soon, presumably with a bigger Flood force this time. So Forerunners being a threat to humanity again does nobody any favors. As for now new alien races, the Precursors could make new races and it’s only natural to assume they could do it now. Without a huge Covenant presence anymore, it’s only logical. Not saying no Covenant are set to appear, they are and I find it stupid honestly, but there needs to be a new threat.
What if some human organization was the ‘ancient’ enemy? As it was referenced in halo legends as cortana reviewed human history, war was our greatest enemy/evil.
Maybe ONI or a master chief hating alliance would pose the threat.

Yes on all fronts

The Precursors where destroyed in the “Forerunner - Precursor” war though.

Wait, wait, wait.
I think there’s something I am missing here.
The Precursors are ‘allied’ with the Flood?

Some escaped.

Okay.
Although I’m confused as to what you mean by the Precursors coming with a “bigger Flood force”
It’ll have to do with the Primordial and an all new series of enemies. I’m thinking the Forerunner will be allies rather than enemies, maybe even supplying you with weaponry.
The Timeless One in Halo: Primordium states that “We are the Flood. There is no difference. until all space and time rolled up and life crushed in the folds…no end to the war, grief, or pain. In a hundred and one thousand centuries…unity again, and wisdom. Until then-sweetness.” and “Humans will rise again in arrogance and defiance. The Flood will return when they are ripe-and bring them unity.”
Ergo, the Precursors are planning to set the Flood loose, again.

Well, I think the precursors would be interesting but if the flood are back then i hope they add some variety.
I still think the “Ancient Evil” is the Flood. They’ve been around for awhile.
ORRRRR, it’s the last remaining Precursor whose name I forgot…
