the new spartan's armor is mark vii?

thoughts?

The colour is misleading you. Naomi’s armor is configured to look like the MKV just with different colours.

I’m not saying its impossible, but I don’t think this evidence supports the case.

Looks like Mk. VII Gen-II to me.

It also has a sort of “default” vibe coming from it…

Said or asked? xD

I’d say that the ONI Spartans armor is a Gen-II frame (which is a much lighter weight version), however is based on the same fundamental technology as the Mark VII (which is Naomi’s case is designed to follow the same physical lineage as the Mark V).

The Mark VII armor could be rearranged on the fly into whatever you wanted it to look like. (Within reason) Naomi took Mark V (B) variant because that was the armor she spent a lot of time in I believe.

I’d think maybe they’d use something more advanced. Depends on timeline I guess.

It is kind of odd. We get the MKV (just before battle of reach) the MKVI (couple months later before halo 2), and MKVII (technically the following year, but I think its still within 12 months of the MKV) in around the length of the year.

It’s not really that odd. From being in the military and seeing just how periodically upgrades are done to super-expensive systems (The RQ7B Shadow, in my case) it actually makes it that much more believable. I can hardly believe that Chief is still wearing Mk VI after he linked back up with the UNSC. Somebody get this man some Mk VII! Not Gen-II, chief doesn’t need any of that pansy lightweight crap

They go like 20 years with the MKIV and then in the last year of the war and shortly after (which means it was probably developed during the war) they pump out 3 whole versions.

Especially given the fall of reach, they probably had better things to invest in than developing armor for a small number of individuals.

I think it’s just a Gen2 MJOLNIR suit with lots of reverse-engineered Forerunner tech in it.

With Mk IV, it can be assumed that they got a lot of little upgrades. Nothing too crazy. Nothing worthy of a new designation. As the war drew to a close, a lot of technology (notably forerunner) was made more readily available. Technology normally improves in big leaps, followed by little trickles and steady growth.

Doctor Halsey discusses the whole “mark” thing in her Journal.

January 7th, 2535

The military now requires a simplified generation system (‘Mark’) to categorize, prioritize and serialize the project neatly into fiscal-year budgets. I’ll go along with this ‘request’ to keep the accountants out of my hair and my work, but I’ll be -Yoink!- if I’m going to wait on a breakthrough just to fit their calendars. They’ll get their tidy generations of armor on paper, but my Spartans will get the best I can give them.

It’s also worth noting that the Mark VII was said to be made by a new supplier so it could have been in development at the same time as the Mark VI.

Like others have said, it is probably some kind of gen 2 suit and the armour could be customized.
Seeing as how the main character of the game has always had a MK ___ gives me more suspicion that this could be a Mk__

I can’t be 100% on this obviously, but it is a possibility.

Roughly possible, if not totally, but I wouldn’t just jump on it without a little more info on both the armor itself and the man inside it on the promotional picture. It is of course, highly likely, due to the ONI symbol represented and etc. Only time will tell though~
