The new radar is “broken”

One of the things that Halo is distinguished for is its radar (the way you can detect the enemy’s position) as we don’t have a full map, we get instead a radar to detect the enemy’s position in a range of 35 meters. But in this new delivery (Halo Infinite) the radar is… broken? The enemies can’t be detected while walking and this in my opinion makes the radar useless and gives the camper the advantage. I’ve been killed countless times by a “third party” that I couldn’t see on the radar. I hope this get fixed on the final version

Its only 20M! Its too short.

I actually like it
It compliments sprint well
Has its benefits but isint an overall crutch to players
Gives enough informaiton to be usefull but not so much that you completely lose your situational awareness

Yup it is broken. You can’t be detected if you jump also xD

I agree 100% overall I really like the game this is the only thing bugging me. Squads roaming undetected are just impossible to deal with and has ruined a good chunk of my games already. That being said I think everything else has been really solid and great.

I agree. 3rd party’s and campers rain supreme with it like this.

I hope they change it. They’ve ALMOST got it right this time!

I couldn’t agree more. I actually cant stand this. This should be in ranked or in a more competitive playlist. Not in a base social playlists and
I prefer the classic radar the most. Makes crouching pointless

This is by design, it is not broken. Additionally, once you’re fired upon by an enemy; that enemy appears on radar and you’re given visual indicators of their direction.
The TTK in Halo is far greater than CoD or BF and as a result; you have the opportunity to return fire or move to cover.

In bot slayer this wasn’t a huge issue but playing PvP for the last 2 hours really got difficult with the lack of radar capabilities. Players can sneak behind you sooo easily and you don’t really have time to react to it.

Im really hoping they change it so walking speed is detected on radar again.

It’s practically useless, the only info it will give is when an opponent is sprinting (please bear in mind that sprint and standard movement speed probably has the smallest gap in difference it’s ever had in any halo game with the sprint feature.) is actively shooting their gun (which usually means you’re already engaged, or being pelted from a mile away.) AND they are within the small radius of 20m, if it has a small radius, it should be more effective, effective enough so that a MOTION SENSOR can detect the standard movement speed. It’s more of a novelty item at this point, nice that it’s there, but woefully impractical to do anything significant with.

It doesn’t make sense that a squad of 4 people can literally sneak up on you while moving at a standard pace and one of the most basic tools designed for one specific task, can’t do it’s job anymore becuase it has such a niche restrictions.

I’m not saying it needs to detect all movement, but basic movement should be picked up, that’s why crouch walking was a big deal, to counter radar, now you can just walk up on everyone undetected, active camo eat your heart out.

I believe the nerf to the sensor is to encourage the use of marking.

My gut feeling says we could strike a better balance between the new/old radar. If it were my game I’d do something like the following.

  • Crouch walking: Hidden - Walking: Hidden (Side note, we need a walk key on PC as you can’t 50% press a key like you can with a joystick) - Running: Hidden for the first 5 seconds, then shown on the radar. This allows you to break away when disengaging or quickly move to back melee. Have a slight cool down before you disappear from the radar. - Sprinting: Always shown. - Jumping: Always shown. - Firing: Always shown. - Grenades: Always shown. - Equipment: Always shown.

Nobody uses marking. It’s inconvinient to do so and the default keybinds for it are awful

The radar didn’t bother me much with bots because I didn’t use it. I was to focused moving to the spawns to kill more bots but it became really apparent really quickly how frustrating it was to not have motion detection with basic walking.

I understand they want pinging to be a thing but returning the radar back to its original form doesn’t negate pinging. Pinging can be seen from any position on the map and it keeps your attention in the middle of the screen.

The way the radar is set up now does NEGATE crouching all together. Like what’s the pointing of crouching now? You used to lose mobility to gain stealth, but now you have mobility and stealth and there’s not enough of a difference between sprint and standard walking speeds to ever justify sprinting and showing up on a radar so no one ever sprints.

I honestly like the way sprint plays in this game, but the radar needs to adjust accordingly or there’s gonna be a lot of frustrated Spartans at launch.

I do it so much one guy said “calm down this aint Seige” so it is effective for sure. I’ve never lost.

I made my own comment on this but I reply here too.

Reverting the radar back to normal doesn’t effect pinging thoigh. A ping can be seen from any spot on the map and it keeps your attention in the middle of the screen where the action is.

The radar the way it is now does negate crouching all together. Tell me, what purpose does crouching have in this game now that walking is hidden on radar and clambering is a thing? If you revert the radar back to old you at the very least give another asset of gameplay meaning again.

I think the change is stupid and i have never heard anyone complain about radar until they changed it. this is how its been for the past 20 years and it has been fine for 20 years. Its a motion sensor and walking is motion. To me halo has always been a casual game that has fun prioritized over competitive play. if there insistent on keeping the new radar make it in ranked only and use the old radar for social .

What is your thought process when you say that “the new radar favors camping vs the old one”?
Because from my perspective it’s actually the complete opposite.

There’s a very big contradiction in this OP. How can you claim that a camper as an advantage but at the same time you’re saying your radar isn’t picking up people walking? Someone walking is not camping. The camper actually has the disadvantage in this scenario. I like it. You can’t just sit behind cover waiting to see red dots on your radar anymore.

A 35 meter radar thats able to pick up people so far away is broken and slows the game down way to much…people know where each other are at…a game of cat and mouse…pathways full of predictable scenarios…idk…I for one don’t like this and I felt happier playing game modes that either had no radar, had the modified radar, or a much shorter ranged radar.

Thats just my opinion though. I get some people like social with a very strong radar in it.
