Now, for now, this is all just based on speculation. But recently (being right before the release of the Halo 5: Guardians title and poster) Mike Colter was cast and Colter will play a character named Marlowe, “a rising star in a futuristic army who is troubled by aspects of the military industrial complex he inhabits. Approaching combat situations with caution and logic, he inspires loyalty in his fellow Spartans.”
Now, if we all remember from the FUD launch before Halo 4’s release, it had to do with a character who had serious relevance to the story, i.e. Lasky. So would that possibly mean that Marlowe, our new mystery man, could possibly fit the role for this ONI labeled Spartan? In my opinion, yes. Colter, who is recognizable as a talented actor as is, did amazing in the The Good Wife. And I can imagine his husky, yet subtle tone coming from the Spartan we see above Chief in the poster.
I am extremely curious to see what Microsoft and 343 shows us at E3 and to see if this is confirmed there or not~
Tell me what you think below~
It was confirmed on twitter that the new spartan is both a “he” and a “NEW” character.
However, Marlowe is technically, new. Though I doubt he will be the new spartan if the series is coming out before the game. Even though they revealed Lasky in a series before Halo 4, you didn’t get to play as him. I’m pretty sure 343 will want to keep this big of a mystery a mystery for now.
Yes, but Marlowe IS a new character. He wasn’t presented at any time before hand, meaning he is new.
In a sense, I agree with you. But remember, we don’t know if the new Spartan is playable as Lasky wasn’t either. So it could be possible either way.
My theory is Marlowe as well. How many new characters they going to keep introducing?
> How many new characters they going to keep introducing?
They’ve gotta replace all the characters who have been killed off, like Cortana and Johnson.
No, I’m pretty sure it’s new-new. Nobody who has introduced before, in any game or lore.
It’s a SpecOps ONI Chief-replacement is my guess, since ONI was angling for a ‘new 117’ previously.
I won’t go any further into detail, for a truckload of these threads are already out there…

^ This. It’s a system of the Heroes journey, something Franchises like Halo and Star Wars have followed for awhile. In order to do it, you need a world of characters around him, and if characters are dying, he can’t have them around him. It’s just how it is, and I truthfully don’t mind seeing some new faces in the mix, it’s something we kind of need, actually.

I still have my doubts. But I can’t help but keep looking at FUD and seeing how that tied into the game, and both the Feature and TV show are coming out around the time of Halo 5: Guardians, if not after.
> No, I’m pretty sure it’s new-new. Nobody who has introduced before, in any game or lore.
Marlowe’s only been introduced by a news article, he’s not in any game or lore yet.
> No, I’m pretty sure it’s new-new. .
Doubt that.
This digital production that we’re getting later this year seems strikingly similar to Forward Unto Dawn in how they both are projects meant to introduce a new character to the plot.
FuD was meant to introduce Lasky before Halo 4. The thing that we’re getting this year is meant to introduce Marlowe before Halo 5.
> Nobody who has introduced before, in any game or lore
Marlowe has yet to be officially introduced to the lore, so that’s not valid either.

Yes but Lasky was a side character in Halo 4. What’s say Marlowe wouldn’t be the same. And why would they “announce” their big blue visor reveal a year and half before the game release, even IF it can’t be confirmed.

I like to call this particular phenomenon “George R. R. Martin Syndrome”.

Anything. A completely new character, not even mentioned. I release Marlowe was only touched upon in an articles, I included that in ‘lore’, though. Sorry.
But that digital production hasn’t happened yet. If the character is inrtoduced in that, so be it. But it’s still ‘new-new’. Somebody we’ve never heard of. It may be Marlowe, but I don’t believe he’s the mystery Spartan who holds so much significance.

This.

This is the point I can agree upon the most, mainly due to how they would build suspense and how revealing him as the big blue would destroy a bit of it.
Regardless though, the Feature and the show aren’t set to debut till Fall of next year as well, meaning that I don’t think we will actually get confirmation on Marlowe being or not being the blue visor Spartan till next year at earliest.

Lasky wasn’t a side character, he was a primary protagonist and pivotal to the plot. The only reason on why he wasn’t playable was because he wasn’t a Spartan. On the other hand, Marlowe is a Spartan, and I don’t think it’s mere coincendence that we’re getting an entire digital feature about a “new” character while at the same time, Holmes states that the Spartan in the promo-art is “new.”
They’d probably be announcing their “big blue visor” character a year before the game to allow more media about him before Halo 5.
> Lasky wasn’t a side character, he was a primary protagonist and pivotal to the plot.
Ah yes, he ordered a Pelican to be prepared. Who could forget such a significant role in the story?
> Ah yes, he ordered a Pelican to be prepared. Who could forget such a significant role in the story?
So, he was at least as important as Lord Hood, Shipmaster, or either of the Captain Keyes’, then?
Anyway, I’m hoping they introduce, I don’t know, Sargent Johnson’s son who happens to look and sound exactly like a younger him at some point, just so we can get his voice actor back into the series in a significant way. After hearing a bunch of his work in Dota 2 (while not finding out that it was him for an embarrassingly long amount of time), I discovered that he’s apparently quite a talented voice actor, and he could easily do just about any other character they wanted him to. But I really just want to hear him do the Johnson voice in Halo again at some point, and not just as a Firefight or Elite voice.
And, for those of you that didn’t realize, he’s also voiced some of the Elites throughout Halo. His name is David Scully, if you want to look him up.
Also, they better bring the Arbiter back, as a protagonist, and most preferably as a playable character, darn it. Him and the Chief were an awesome duo (and by extension the Elite & humanity alliance was pretty darn awesome too), and they’d be stupid not to do it again. Screw all of that humans-trying-to-rustle-stuff-up-on-the-Elite’s-homeworld stuff that’s going on in whoever’s Halo books right now.
(Mildly off-topic post, sorry.)
I believe it probably will be Marlowe.
> Even though they revealed Lasky in a series before Halo 4, you didn’t get to play as him.
We don’t know if you play as this new Spartan either.

Then they have to kill those new characters off without establishing any emotional bonds to those characters (cough keyes1 and keyes2 cough) that would make their deaths significant to begin with.
I kid, I kid.
