That right there is a masterpiece. It’s a great blend of depression and encouragement. It’s like an “end of the world” feel, but grows into a really encouraging piece. The soundtrack for Halo 4 will be amazing. I had my doubts about Neil Davidge, but now it’s one less thing to worry about. He has an incredible legacy to live up to, but he lives up to it. This guy doesn’t fail to deliver. I know it might be too early, but I feel it’s going to be epic.
His interview is on the front page of the site, but just for you lazy folk.
What do you guys think? Does he even compare to the legendary Marty? Let’s drop the other Halo news, let’s focus a little bit on the soundtrack. I feel it’s always been an important part in Halo. I look forward to it.
To be honest, I expected something really clever from Neil Davidge, but I’m quite disappointed. The track ‘Arrival’ has an uninteresting build-up and a chord progression that is so simple it almost made me cringe… It has that overused ‘cheesy epic’ feel to it, which is really a shame considering Marty really brought us a completely unique style of music!
I really hope the rest of the soundtrack will be a lot better…
Edit:
Also, the mastering isn’t the best I’ve heard, but that’s just me being nitpicky.

that’s just you being nitpicky, now, as for the track ‘Arrival’ having an uninteresting build-up, it might be Neil trying to give us an idea of what to expect to see at the start of the campaign, not all sound track songs have to have an interesting build up.
True, but they have to be interesting as a whole, and, in my opinion, this particular piece didn’t get close enough to that considering Halo’s “standards”.
I did find it really cheesy heroic. The first time I heard it I was sorta disgusted but after my fifth time listening to it or so it’s gotten better. It still makes me cringe though at around 1:40 when the snare comes in along with the high instruments playing those 5 notes at the beginning of every chord change. That made me really mad. I wish the song had more of a desperation feel too it, cause right now, it makes the story sound like we’ll go through it without getting a scratch.
As far as I’m concerned, this doesn’t compare to Marty’s music.
I think it is really lacking in the great melodies that Marty put into so many of his compositions. I can’t stress how cheesy this song feels at some points, but even with that, it doesn’t really have a tune I feel I would catch myself humming. And the behind the scenes video made me even more scared. They seem to want to use the same instrumentation and gimmicks as other Halo soundtracks, but I’m worried they’ll use it in all the wrong ways and it won’t make a difference unless the actual music sounds right. Right now I imagine it as some gross cheesy-love space-opera story soundtrack and I really hope that isn’t going to reflect in the story.
I know we can’t expect Marty number 2 or anything and that’s fine.
I’m just really worried the music is going to be a disappointment.
I think it sounds amazing. Definitely a rival to Marty.

The last part is so… haunting. This is hands down my favorite part. If the music relates the campaign, this is going to play at some scary parts.
I don’t care what you guys think anymore. I KNOW the music is good and it still does have that Halo feel. It’s probably the closest thing to Marty anyone can ever create.
