The New Helmet Pack and Microtransactions.

Like the Memories of Reach armor pack, this is an item that is only for visual customization. Either you grind a lot or shell out real money. This is a perfectly fine and acceptable thing, because you are paying real money for a guaranteed unlock of a purely visual item and you still have the option to earn them in-game, and the high price fits since they are very sought-after helmets.

This is microtransactions done right. In future games for microtransactions, this should be the model that 343i sticks with. Real money can purchase expensive specific items if you want, as that will continue to fund free or cheap DLC and updates to the game. I’d fully support microtransactions in Halo 6 if they are purely for visual items, and without random chance. Please, no more Nornfang packs, or shelling out money for weapons and on-the-battlefield items. Visual Customization, though, is good. Allow those with money to be able to choose to contribute to Halo’s future, but again, stick with visual stuff like these classic Helmet packs.

Appreciate the honesty and well-written post! It’s always nice to hear people’s well thought-out opinions on matters like this.

Thanks for the input!

The system you mentioned is very similar to the one found on Titanfall 2 wich works since they can get their money back without having to remove the free dlc model and it’s none intrusive to the point were you can just ignore it and forget it even exists. What Halo 6 now needs is to have the essential things that a halo game needs at launch and a good campaign that fixes the problems introduced in halo 5 and we might have a contender for best halo game since halo 2 or 3!

I think it’s okay, I know what I’m working for and I’m getting a lot of items.

I think the only thing that bothers me is I can’t use all the items at once, lol I’ll only use one at a time, but that’s okay.

My issue is the limited availability. Having req packs for guaranteed unlocks is great. If you can get it. I don’t have the finances to pay for it outright and nowhere near enough time to grind for it in the week it’s been announced. They need to add the helmets into req unlock rotation so we can still get them randomly or just keep the special packs up so we can earn them as we can. I’d love this pack but I feel like I’m being slapped across the face knowing it’ll disappear as quickly as it came. Same with the last pack for the popular arnor sets.

That moment when Uny agrees with you :stuck_out_tongue: Couldn’t agree more with ya OP, that’s how microtransactions should be done

The fact that you are guaranteed to get all the helmets is what makes me excited.
im willing to shell out money for something I want as long as I’m guaranteed to get it.
otherwise it’s just gambling and that is no fun to me.
good job on this one 343i

I like the fact that you also have the option to earn RP through gameplay, & have a different feeling of accomplishment when you open the pack. kudos for giving your supporters the choice!

I like it too. My only beef with anything exclusive in Halo 5, is a time limit.

‘IF’ the only way to get the REQs is an exclusive pack, make it available in the store permanently. At least the $ option.

This will help the OCD collectors of the world and make more $. Who losses?

I agree what 343 has done is the the right balance between grinding for that one armor you want and paying for that armor

I’m pretty sure it’s permanent, since it’s one of the only packs that has, in a way, original content. If you noticed, all the previous limited-time packs had either reskins of cosmetics that already existed in the REQ system, or regular REQs that were already in the REQ system, the pack just being a quicker way to unlock that certain item. The Voices of War pack comes with original content, and it’s permanent, so why not this pack?

Yeah I haven’t seen anything saying this is a limited time offer. More likely it will always be available in the store for $10. Heck those mythic packs are still available. I wish all packs they once offered where at least still available. That recruit pack or what ever would come in handy for new players.

Agreed, ideally i’d like to see all microtransactions be visual items and not have anything to do with gameplay. i can live with how it is now if its needed to be profitable but i’d prefer what your saying.

It makes me really appreciate the more visual things in games.

I personally purchased the $3.00 pack for TitanFall 2. I’m rocking those skins like crazy, constantly switching them.

Seeing 343 do something like this with for the helmets I think is personally a great move.

I wouldn’t say no to the helmets being a little cheaper lol

I came in totally prepared to drop a steaming doodoo on this thread.

But nope. Good thread OP.

What if there was an option to gift a certain amount of req points? I think that could be useful.

I like it, I bought the voice pack, and I have 500K RP so I’ll be getting this pack as well.

The microtransactions in Halo 5 are done pretty dang well IMO, its not perfect, but they don’t interfere with Arena and they pay for FREE DLC! So I like it.

Haven’t seen anywhere where it says it will disappear soon. So I don’t know why you think that. Plus we have had since December really to start saving up for this. All you needed to do was play FF in the short time you can play, and you will be there.

I think this is a lot better for the newer players who don’t have everything unlocked. It was unfortunate when I was still grinding packs and a DLC would drop. I had to wait till get to a lot of that content.

While I don’t like (and never will like) microtransactions, I don’t get the fuss surrounding this pack. People are complaining about the “ridiculous grind”, but how is this different from anything from Reach? When you get rid of the whole “pack” thing, you’re essentially saving up in-game currency to buy a specific set of items with no RNG involved. Now, obviously, the main difference is that you can pay for it with real money too, but that’s about it. The grind doesn’t even take that long. I managed to save up 150,000 RP in little under 2 weeks, just playing a couple or so WZ games a day. People seriously need to chill with this.

I like how H5 handles things
