The new Forge will be very limited by gametypes!

From the new info 343 has released about Halo 5 Forge, it sounds amazing. Waiting till what looks like late December to get to try it out was a tough pill to swallow. But I am willing to keep being patient as long as it’s as great as it looks.

However, right now Forge is looking like it will be severely limited by the gametypes we have been given. Really we only have three. THREE. The different gamemodes all boil down to different variants of Slayer, Capture the Flag, and Stronghold (Territories.)

Where’s King Of The Hill? Oddball? Assault? Those seem like gametype staples. But let’s not forget about fan favorites Race and Infection. I’d also like to see the new Halo 4 gametype Ricochet return as well, that was a ton of fun.

I really want to get some custom games going again with my friends like we used to enjoy with Halo 3 and Reach, but right now there’s hardly enough gametype variants to do that. And that’s not okay 343.

It’s pretty cool we are getting a bunch of DLC maps for free, I’m hoping we get some gametypes along with that. Has anyone heard anything about this?! I wouldn’t be nearly as worried if it wasn’t for terrible selection of custom game variants in Halo 4. Let’s not forget about this thread: Custom Games Are STILL Unacceptable, 343.

TL;DR: Where’s King Of The Hill, Oddball, Assault, Race and Infection?!

agreed we should be gaining gametypes not losing ones that have been staples in halo

Yeah, it’s been three years since Halo 4, what have they been doing?! Halo 1 was made with a fraction of the people and resources and it had WAY more customization options!

i think they will release more game types soon, When Halo 4 launched they only had a limited list of game types and they added more in the months after release.

The reason that we have only a limited amount of playlists at the moment is the community itself actually. Quoting from their blog:

When we set out to design Halo 5: Guardians’ launch playlists, we did so with a simple, focused mission: Keep matchmaking quality high and provide the right amount of variety with both new and familiar gametypes. It’s nice to reduce it to such a simple idea, but as with everything in game design, and after almost 14 years of Halo multiplayer - the right way to reach that goal is different for every player. Some folks like the selection of Slayer and objective playlists from Halo 3, some folks are monomaniacally focused on Team Doubles or Neutral CTF - while others prefer the mode-specific playlists of Halo 4.

To shine a more democratic focus on the initial playlist design, we enlisted the help of the awesome members of the Halo Community Feedback Program. And thanks to their great feedback and passion - we were able to come up with a solid initial selection of playlists that met our original goals of variety, community involvement, and above all - high quality matches where team skill and individual ability are both allowed to shine.

We want to be absolutely clear that the playlist selection in Halo 5: Guardians is going to be a living entity that is fueled and molded by the community.

Very soon after launch, we’ll continue to introduce and layer in maps and modes, as well as fan favorite playlists. We also have more game modes and brand-new maps on the way as we go heads down into sustain mode and will be fully entrenched in our efforts to continually provide excellent new experiences and content in the months and years to come.

Now, as much as we’re taking input from community very seriously, we also realize the tyranny of the majority can lead to unintended consequences, so we’re being hyper-diligent in testing and strategizing the rollout of modes and maps. But we do appreciate direct input, so one other thing that came out of the Halo Community Feedback Program was the idea of a Weekend Social playlist. This is an exciting playlist that gives you the fans, the power to determine what is featured every weekend. So in the coming weeks we’ll be gathering data, requests, anecdotes and ideas – allowing the community to provide the ideas for modes and maps that get featured. Over time, the most popular modes will have a shot at getting their own dedicated playlist as well. On top of all that, the Weekend Social playlist will feature increased XP and REQ points!

Stay tuned as we’ll go deeper into the design and intent of each of these playlists in a blog post later this week.

Thank you Jones! I was hoping that they had talked about this in their blog or something like that. This gives me a little more hope. I do still think it’s kind of ridiculous that we have so few gametypes in the custom game settings, but as long as they release a bunch more very soon that will do.

But that doesnt explain why the gametypes are missing from custom games.

They are releasing both forge and BTB in December. Then the month after that more maps and modes, then in February once again more maps and modes.

I really hope they don’t take until December to release more gametypes. I want to play customs with my friends and the amount of gametypes we have right now is very limiting.
