I think it goes without saying that we went backwards since December.
In December the Winter Contingency event was released with a focus on just play to earn things. Play any game, win or lose, high kill or low kill, doesn’t matter. Play something get a reward. Once a day for x days. Why have we reverted to the challenge system that few people enjoy? I was so excited to see Fracture Tenrai come back, expecting 343 to continue the mentality from the WC event.
Instead we were back to the Challenge BS. I assumed it was just a “Couldn’t change progression in an already running event” problem. Today I was greeted to the same horrid challenge system from before for the new event. Why? Why did we go backwards? I see no reason to force the community to play a specific mode in order to earn the rewards.
Don’t get me wrong. The event mode is fun, and I have been playing it a lot even though I won’t be able to progress the event because I’m not a melee person and my 3 challenges are ALL melee based. I know I can get a swap but I’m not buying swaps that should be earnable. That fact, that even when I’m playing the mode they want me to I can’t progress in the event unless I play exactly how I’m told OR pay money to try to get something better is garbage.
The other problem is that the other challenges are to play something else. In my case that’s win a BTB game and win an oddball match. This is so broken I don’t even have words. 343 Please address this issue. I want to enjoy your game but man, you’re not making it easy.
How is it going backwards? I, as most people are not available to play every day. With a challenge based event I can unlock multiple tiers per day. I missed out on quite a few of the WC unlocks because of it being capped at one unlock per day.
I guess there really is no way to please everyone.
I think they should be both. The challenges are there for people who want to grind it out in a day, the play 1 match a day is there for those who can’t play long each day or aren’t good at the game
Why not implement both? Let people who want to unlock 2-3 a day get the challenges and make all challenges unlock a tier not just the event ones. Then add the one a day on top. 10 day event, 10 tiers, 10 challenges. Rock 'em all in one day or play once a day every day to get the full set
I distinctly remember multiple people ranting and pulling their hair out because they couldn’t play enough days to unlock everything.
There is no winning. Someone will be upset.
What do you mean? I’m pretty sure this follows the same changes they made to the Tenrai event, which is that you should always have an event challenge ready at all times. That was one of the changes, right? I know that I keep getting event challenges each time I complete one.
Yes, I have 3 event challenges and 2 that are not. My 3 event are all melee and my 2 other are oddball and BTB. That’s where my problem lies. I’m no good at melee and I can’t unlock the other event challenges without paying money or playing the non event playlist until I get a win on the designated game modes
I don’t believe you for a second. I quickly pulled up your match history and I can see you averaging 1-3 melee kills per game. Even some backsmacks in there too. What are your challenges specifically? You’re platinum 3, I find it so hard to believe that you can’t manage to melee enemies to death based on your match history.
If I remember correctly the reason for Winter Contingency being the way it was, was due to the fact that they had designed it to work as some kind of advent calendar with something to get each day. So they didn’t change the event progression for Winter Contingency and back again later. They ran it the way it was designed from the get go.
Anyway - I see the issue with it being tied to challenges the way they are now. Most specifically: with all the issues with certain challenges. I think if they got challenges to a point where they are not quite as annoying to do it would allow most people to progress through by playing 1 - 3 matches a day which would likely be what would keep most people happy (not having to jump through massive hoops and allowing progression at a faster pace).
I prefer this structure to both Tenrai and the Winter Contingency, but I absolutely agree that their method of challenge delivery is awful.
They should have a separate challenge category dedicated to events, so that daily and event challenges don’t mix. After all, these events are supposed to add to the gameplay experience, not replace fundamental/essential portions of it.
I agree. I hate the challenge system, because it keeps forcing me to play modes I hate. I want to play BTB and that’s it. I shouldn’t have to play something that makes getting my nails pulled out sound like a pleasant experience. These challenges if they must stay should be an extra means of progression instead of the ONLY means of progression.
Challenge swaps replacing bad challenges with other bad challenges is just the cherry on top. Sometimes I burn through 5 on a single challenge trying to get something that isn’t oddly specific, or tied to ranked. I will never play ranked, because I do not want a rank.
this is bull*hit, just loaded up Inf. (for the first time in 2 weeks) to check the event and store changes. i do somewhat aprove of the latter but WTF we have to earn a color (pink) that’s been in halo since day one
