The new announcer in BTB

Can we at least get the option to turn her off and have Jeff instead?

I really don’t understand why 343 always seem so determined to reduce Jeff’s presence in the game when he’s so beloved.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not someone who opposes increased female and minority representation, but there are much better ways of doing that (like introducing new characters in campaign for example).

It doesn’t help that the writing for the BTB announcer is really cringeworthy and juvenile. Does anyone really enjoy hearing “ChAiN tHe PaIn SpArTaN” and “TheY cAn’T sToP yOu” at all?

It’s so jarring and awkward.

I agree.

Nothing against Agryna (cool character btw) but her voice/callouts sounds pretty generic and dispassionate. At least she should make the same callouts (like jeff: Double Kill!, Triple Kill! and so on) in a serious way, but it doesn’t happen.

At least let us choose between Jeff and Agryna. Jeff is just too iconic xD

Hes getting on new blood feels like a safety for the inevitable.

It’s clearly not though. If he were retired that would make sense, but he’s still heavily involved with the project, so casting the separate announcer for BTB is just odd.

Perhaps we’ll get an option down the road, who knows what he’s been up to during this time. Maybe they couldn’t get him in for enough sessions for all of the recordings. I can’t say since I have no ties or connections to say otherwise. I don’t have a problem with the Spartan Commander giving us some cringe callouts, some of them are kind of funny imo. But hopefully we get an option later on.

You guys really need to get with the idea that mortality is a real thing and that Jeff Steitzer is NOT a young man. If not that, Jeff needs to be allowed to move on with his life.

He’s 69 years old. We do not own him. He should be allowed to retire. This isn’t shade on the guy either, I will never forget his extremely heartfelt message about Trans Rights.

Point is folks, we need to be able to let things go and move on if that’s how it goes.

I mean, they have like 1300 polished samples and probably way more raw takes in the studio.

Why are you acting like he’s retired? The guy literally does work on cameo for diehard fans while still reprising his role for the game. The only reason He’s not in BTB is because 343 feel they have a need to push representation though the announcer role. Let’s be honest here.

Besides, chances are half the lines in BTB were probably already recorded by him. The medals certainly already have been…

I really love that you say that like it’s a bad thing.

Some Halo fans are minorities. Maybe it’d be nice to give them representation.

So let’s allow that, instead of railing against it in bad faith like that.

Jeffs age aside he will have already recorded the necessary voice lines. I think we will see him in BTB I’ve got a feeling we will all get to choose which we prefer. Maybe Battle pass/Store related. Wouldn’t surprise me considering it’s free. They got to earn the moolah someway.

I’d like something similar to the ‘voices of war’ customization. Choose who we want.

My dude, I don’t think that’s what he’s trying to say at all. It’s not a bad thing, but we figured she was there for the training stuff for the Spartan Recruits, not also announcing stuff, which was ALWAYS traditionally Jeff’s job. I’m sorry, but we don’t need a Destiny rip off of Lord Shaxx. I don’t need someone chattering in my ear how badass I’m doing in MP. Announce my medals and sprees and be done.

Mh, once I unlock a signature I’ll throw my pronouns in it, feels weird being called dude ever.

Listen, it’s been almost exactly twenty years. Jeff Steitzer, Steve Downes and Jen Taylor seriously need a break. Can we at least consider letting them have that, finally?

Unpopular opinion, Jeff should only be accessible to hear in arena.

If you want to hear the voice of god you better be ready to fight for your life in his arena. And his arena isn’t somewhere where you can socialize with your buddies. The voice of God’s arena is in the tight knit 4v4 combat where only the true survive

Jeff is still willing and passionate about his involvement in Halo as the announcer, as evidenced by his involvement with fans. He is 69, not retired, and no one is forcing him to do anything. Given that he is still involved and enjoys being involved, there’s no reason to push for new announcers when he is still willing and very able to provide his iconic voice.
Agryna is a new character and offers none of the recognizability that Jeff does as an announcer for any multiplayer mode, let alone a classic like BTB. Her lines also felt patronizing and awkward. “They can’t stop you!” and other such lines just seem more like a children’s sports coach giving words of encouragement than a commander of humanity’s newest and finest super soldiers monitoring a large-scale training simulation. And to get nitpicky, why would she be watching and complimenting you specifically out of all the Spartans on the field?
I have no problem with the character herself, and I welcome her over Palmer with open arms. However she like any other character should be used where she is needed in the game, story, and universe, and she isn’t needed as an announcer in BTB or other pre-existing multiplayer modes. That niche has been filled for 20 years. If she were the announcer during training mode or some other Academy-based mode, that would be great. Even better, if players could select her vs. Jeff as their announcer, that would be perfect. If anyone wants to hear her as their announcer, they’d be able to. However, as long as Jeff is still so passionate and willing to lend us his voice, I see zero reason to change suddenly. He’s 69, not 89, and no one is forcing him to do this. He enjoys it and wants to keep doing it.

Thanks so much for this comment. You summed it all up brilliantly.

Would you ever take a break from the most profitable thing in your life that you’ve admitted multiple times you love doing and don’t see yourself stopping any time soon? It’s voice work. Not physical labor. Besides that, Jeff has already done all the voice work already. He just needs to be the voice placed into BTB matches. It’s already there, he’s already done it, those same lines are present in the 4v4 Arena modes.

Diversity isn’t a problem.
