343 and Microsoft’s new business model for Halo going forward is to sell as many copies copies as possible. While this is true with any company - 343/MS will do so at the expense of quality and apparently with complete disregard for long time fans. They figured that the fans would buy Halo 4 even without a public beta, and they were right.
The changes to the core gameplay are largely in part due to Josh Holmes’ ideas about game development(He is the creative director after all.) He believes accessibility is one of the greatest keys to making a game successful(as referenced in the recent GDC panel.) Successful = sales, not the game actually being fun, or in any way balanced or fair.
I have decided, after months of frustration, that 343 is just a puppet company created by Microsoft to sell Halo based on the name alone. Microsoft could more than likely still make millions even if they didn’t make Halo games anymore - selling books, toys etc.
If you want to blame somebody for Halo 4 being bad you should actually blame yourselves. The only way to reach a corporation is speaking with your wallet. Just don’t buy Halo games anymore - no DLC, nothing. Halo will more than likely keep selling based off of brand recognition anyways and Microsoft knows this = the community really doesn’t even matter that much to them.
Bungie and 343 are completely different. One example is that Bungie would reach out to the community in their weekly updates. They didn’t have to do this. It was out of their devotion to their fans.
Microsoft(to replicate this process,) just hires BS Angel to do it = she gets paid to do it. Bungie did it because they wanted to. MS does it because they get paid to.
Microsoft makes zero dollars if people stop playing Halo 4 after 6 months passes and the final map pack is released. The community may care, as I do, that nobody is playing. My entire friends list is full of diehard Halo fans that just watch Netflix now = that is the real truth.
Expect Halo 5 to be released next year and it will play just like the most popular FPS on the market at the time(It will basically have multiplayer that is a bad clone of some other game.) Halo is just a name now and the game is gone. It is sad but the real fans know it.
A new Halo will be released(in name at least) every 2 years - regardless if it is finished or not. Microsoft hasn’t created a new IP in over a decade. They would slap the Halo name on anything if it would mean that product would sell more.
I will put my bottom dollar down and say there will be another halo game of sorts coming out this fall with the new xbox. Microsoft is starting to copy Activisions strategy by making its 1st party companies come out with something new every year.

I wouldnt be surprised. Especially seeing as Frankie already stated before Halo 4 came out that Halo 5 would “most likely” be a launch title for the next system. Plus they already confirmed that they started work on Halo 5 BEFORE Halo 4 was even launched, so I could see Halo 5 in the fall or next spring. After the GDC panel, I am just about done with 343i, especially if Halo 5 will only be on the next system. Halo will be dead in my eyes, and I have played since Halo CE system link lol
You simply don’t know what you’re talking about. Your just making 343 look like the “bad guys” cause you love bungie. Blah Bungie made weekly updates cause they loved us oh so much Blah Blah Blah 343 does it only because BS Angel wants money from Microsoft. Do you hear that? Complete bungie fanboyism. Don’t you think if 343 only wanted money they would get the full house working on halo 5 right after halo 4 was done? 343 shows devotion towards the fans SIMPLY for the fact that they do weekly updates. How many other companies do weekly updates for their games?
Nobody saild anything about 343 or bungie(who I thought were a company who only had a good run for a few games.) It is this simple, if there is a new xbox, which all signs point to yes, there has to be a game that is xbox exclusive to come out. Key word is MICROSOFT

It was right in the OP

Lol so youre saying releasing a CoD game every other year by a single developer is showing devotion to the fans? NO, lol its trying to make as much money as possible. Bungie wasnt perfect, no developer is, but when a developer is completely OWNED by a company, it is a different story. 343i is allowed to make decisions, as long as they fit with Microsoft. I hold nothing against the employees of 343i, they are passionate people who like what they do. But after the GDC panel, it became clear that they were/are tasked to cater to the mass and make as much money as possible.
Also, Ubisoft and Valve do weekly updates on their games. So did Bioware. So yeah…where were you going with that?
I gotcha. My mistake. I agree somewhat with the OP but I think Microsoft pretty much ran the show and made 343 take the brunt of criticism.
MS/343 were looking for a new Creative Director on their job listings but it has since been filled.
I hope the new Creative Director is actually a Halo fan this time.

Just because the name has Halo on the box doesn’t mean it will even be a Halo game anymore. Now Halo games are outsourced to about 10 different developers so Microsoft can meet their 1.5-2 year deadline.
What you end up is a FrankenHalo that is barely recognizable anymore.
Comedy gold.
Would-be game designers and coders have now given way to would-be business execs…
Stay thirsty my friends!
MS is the heads, the rule makers, and in my opinion, the reason H4 is at its current state. Also, has anyone else noticed a huge increase of recruits since March? I’ve been here since November, and I swear there are alot more Recruits (Forum) than normal.
I really doubt that this is the case

I agree with you. I am sure there is some big-wig market analyst at Microsoft who studies market trends. This is more than likely the person(or group of people,) who are responsible for what Halo multiplayer has become.

MS are the head honchos and are tough cookies. Usually to argue with them is an automatic defeat, if you know what i mean. With regards of the forum, I know, i was an ODST Iron when recruits started appearing.
The “real” fans need to get a real argument.

I’m sure they will as soon as you get one, my friend.
