The negativity in Gamespot and IGN...

SERIOUSLY!? what the hell is wrong with people? 90% of the comments are people saying Halo 5 is too bland because it’s just the same old halo with no major differences… But over here in these forums we got people saying the game is bland because it’s too different? so which is it?!

Just look at the comments ughhh Bringing Down The Kraken Gameplay - Halo 5: Guardians - YouTube

Ign, gamespot, and all others like these two comment section willl be filled with nothing but negativity no matter what the topic is. It could be about new skittle flavors and you’d get 6544 negative comments about it.

As for here I just ignore “those” people and “those” threads.

Like seriously gamespot posted an article about phil Spencer saying the console wars was distasteful and their twitter section and article comment sections got filled with nothing but insults and negativity.

Good for them, more Halo for me.

It’s Gamespot’s viewers. Everywhere else the comments are very positive.

Didn’t anyone ever teach you not to read youtube comments? :stuck_out_tongue:

You can’t spell ignorant without IGN, and the same goes for the comment section.

I think much of it is because the majority of console gamers are ps4 owners, and have a look at their library this holiday, its the worst lineup they’ve ever had, this whole year has been horrible for ps4 owners, I know because I own both consoles.

This. I’ll break the comments down for ya;

  • 90% Sony/PS4 players who trash most Xbox-exclusive games (Who would rather back up the trashy DLC-hording Destiny)
  • 5% Former Halo players who claim “Halo died at 3. RIP Halo #HaloIsDead
  • 3% COD fans who think Halo players are morons and that its better to go get 2 shotted in the back playing Blops 3
  • 2% True Halo fans that try to back up Halo, and getting pushed down by the other 98%

I’m kind of surprised that for the good of humanity, youtube comments arent disabled by default.

yeah from what I can tell a lot of it is a mix of jealousy and not wanting to admit the other console has a better 2015 lineup. its a bit childish.

Comments on internet sites are always 90% hate. Just look at this page Halo waypoint. Its a page dedicated to halo, with almost only Halo fans and active moderators and yet you still have people hating 343, the game, abilities, sprint etc. Imagine now a site like IGN where all the comments are of people wasting their time even more than us XD battling over which console is better and sony fans hating on everything xbox related. etc

  1. As someone who is apart of both console communities, PS fans trash the Xbone in their own forums and hardly talk about Halo.

  2. That is a very poor generalization of Halo 5 critics

  3. Oddly enough, I see more Halo/other game fans trashing COD on COD videos than vice-versa. I’m saying this and I’m not even a COD fan.

  4. Loving something unconditionally doesn’t constitute you as a “true” fan. And those statistics are horribly wrong, their is an immense amount of hype for Halo 5. Stop martyrizing yourself over your opinion of a video game.

What part doesn’t make sense?

It is the same old Halo game for the most part. In their perspective, Halo is still a barebones Sci-Fi shooter with a small weapon pool, no cover system, no hand-to-hand combat system, no upgrade system, no real rewards system, no open-world and no real customizability as a single player experience… They only added Spartan Abilities and squad gameplay. That doesn’t make Halo ‘new’ to them, because those additions were possible 10 years ago.

But this is just from the perspective of a non-Halo fan. In stark contrast, those additions would make it bad at being a good Halo game in the eyes of a diehard purist.

Negativity is not a feature of gaming, or of a console war, or of classic Halo vs. modern Halo, or of Halo vs. CoD. It’s a feature of humanity. And the internet is the most powerful negativity amplifier ever created. If you hold an ant under the comments section of youtube on a sunny day it will fry. Ignore it all, at all times, and forever. Unless it’s constructive negativity. Which also abounds, but which is not entirely useless. Which one is which only you can decide. But since you hang on youtube anyway you should check out Favyn and BDobbinsFTW. People love to hate on them, but they’re both what I would call “constructively critical.”

meh, it’ll still sell 9 million copies. And there will still be a Halo 6. bring on the hate. people hate on CoD, that -Yoink- sells like dollar drink days at McDonalds

Lol good one.

Seriously though, they make controversial videos, have clear cut views, and seem very passionate. Unfortunately, both of them like to speak that their version of what they speak about is true. Too bad that sometimes they offer conflicting videos, and have since found major success with clickbait titles. Favyn, for example, started out as a decent anti-new Halo with fair points and only slight misuse of statistics and facts, and very few instances of false or misleading facts used. Then he realized how many views he got, and started putting videos out like “Why Warzone will be dead in a month” which proceeded to get him wrecked in the comments, mostly by his own subscribers. Look, anti-new Halo has a strong voice. Its just that 9/10 times, people will love to say things like “Halo 3 had good player retention, Halo 4 had bad player retention. Halo 3 didnt have sprint, Halo 4 had sprint, ergo, sprint in Halo is why everyone doesnt play anymore”. While that may be true for quite a few fans, it is in no way an accurate blanket statement for the entire Halo population.

I’ve only noticed this in Gamespot comments. IGN comments usually have positive top comments after you let the the comment section even itself out over time. I’m sure IGN has such bad comments as well, but I suspect they are buried by how the top comments float to the literal top of the comment section.

I’m not suprised. Youtube comments on anything this high profile tend to be carcinogenic.

I just tend to ignore most comment sections because of this very reason.
