The needler is a terrible weapon

What is so great about this gun that it makes nearly everyone who passes by it want to use it? It is probably the WORST weapon in the game. Yes, it fires a steady stream of homing needles at a target. it also can apparently take down your shields quite fast, and result in an explosion if you were able to get enough of those needles to hit your target.

But the thing is, the weapon promotes mindless rushing. Most people think that the needler is an all powerful power weapon like the rockets, or the sniper. Which just inst the case. When you are using the needler, you leave your self open for attack.

Reasons why it leaves you vulnerable:

1: the projectiles/ needles are bright, and slow. This gives other player the oppertunity to pin point where you are almost immediately.

2: it’s range is actually fairly limited. Meaning, you are really only able to use it’s full potential at long range, both medium and short range do not give the needles you are firing enough time to adjust to their targets’ movements. So while you’re spamming that thing at either short of medium range, he’s pot shotting you with a DMR, or some other projectile weapon, while half of your needles are missing him. So rushing at a target with a neelder is probably the worst thing you could do at any given time, because as you do so, you are limiting the movement of the needles, and just screwing your self over.

3: the needles are slow. Which gives any decent player a lengthy reaction time to try and dodge most of the needles that are being fired at him. For example, when I’m in a match on Zealot, and I have a person firing needles at me. I would just simply duck behind some cover and let him waste his needles. Once he’s finished, I would just pop out of my cover and finish him off while he is reloading. or hell, even if he stopped firing and waited for me to pop out, I would still be able to finish him off becasue of the slow travel time the needles have.

4: the amount of needles you need to use to actually kill a target is awful. 90% of the people who use this weapon just spam the entire clip at one target, which would result in a reload, and leaving you open for attack by another enemy. If you insists on using that weapon to take out the second target, you’ll probably only be able to get two needles out before you’re killed.

5: outside of your lock on range, the weapon is just useless. All it can do is mindlessly spray an area where a target is. If you’re lucky, MAYBE you’ll get two needles to hit that target.

So what I’m trying to say here is don’t use the needler. Or if you do, try be smart with the thing and only use it if your target is out in the open, and far enough (but still within lock on range) for the needles to adjust quick enough to hit your target. otherwise, you are just feeding the enemy team points.

If you think you are a beast with the gun, then I’m sorry to say that you need to stop lying to your self.

It’s called the noobler for a reason…

Because its fun.

Sounds like someone got needled like a porcupine and is upset. Fear the pink mist!

ROFL by far the best Automatic weapon in the game.

My friend got a rampage with the needler once. :stuck_out_tongue:

with JUST a needler…Good lord O.O

Nope, every time someone uses that gun, I get a free kill.

I don’t hate the gun, it just has a bad concept for a weapon. it’s useless in most fighting ranges.

Yeah…it was one of those “get x kills with automatic weapons” challenge days and he couldn’t find any other weapons and was like, “Challenge accepted.” :stuck_out_tongue:

I give him/her major props. back to the topic I am actually a fan of the needler I dont have many kills with it cause I rarely use automatic weapons. But I enjoy it. It definitely is a unique weapon,

The Needler

The acupuncture device of doom and my favourite weapon in the Halo Series. I ALWAYS use the weapon if I see it.

Two people I have gotten started on Halo Reach recently both love the Needler. Their reason? It’s accessible. Ask them where rockets are? Don’t know. Ask where the sniper spawns? They don’t know. Ask where the needlers spawn? They’ll show you!

I don’t tend to use the weapon, as I find the range to typically be trumped by DMR. Especially with the TU.

Do not underestimate he power of the needler!
Cereally, whenever here is a one on one duel in matchmaking, when I have the needler, I always get the kill, mainly because the supercombine explosion kills them faster then they can kill me with a dmr.
The homing feature also means you don’t have to have a perfect view of the enemy to hurt them.

  1. That big bright light would be very useful to me if an opponent is using that ‘explosive weapon’ on one of my team mates. It tells me “your teammate is in danger”

  2. The range is perfect. Not too far back and not too close.

  3. They’re only slow if you don’t have an enemy targeted.

  4. The thing that most people don’t get is that the clip of the Needler doesn’t need to be used all up at once. When someone is firing the Needler at an enemy, they use up all of the needles at once not knowing that the Needler has a small amount of needles left to detonate the enemy. They use up the full clip just to make sure that he explodes.

  5. Your using a weapon that can kill in enemy under three seconds, so you will need some patience. You will be straight dumb to use the needler without targeting him. The Needler takes skill to use. Check this out ->: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUsSFQmqt6o&feature=related

The weapon is great at its proper range.

I think the weapon might be intended mainly for campaign purposes. I use it to great effect at close and medium range. I don’t bother at longer ranges. The shortfall to me is vs shields, then it’s just a waste, but I love it for killing unshielded brutes since they can’t dodge the needles as easily. I don’t bother using it on people, elites, or brute chieftains, it just takes too much time and ammo to kill.

The one I avoid is the needle rifle. I find it useless unless the enemy is in a wide open space. I use it on brutes and grunts and sometimes on skirmishers. But really it just takes too much effort to make useful.

So? Yes the needler is a useless weapon, but some players still enjoy to try and use it. Why sneak up behind someone and tap them on the back when you can spray needles into them and make them blow up like the 4th of July?

Competitively yes the needler isn’t there for obvious reasons, but for the casual playlists its still there for the lolz.

So more people using needlers means more kills for you, and youre here trying to stop people using it?

Im not buying it. I think someone needled you up

Needler has a skill gap, it kills faster than nearly anyting, if you havent worked out what it is yet im not gonna tell you.

Depends how you use it. I remember getting an Untouchable with one way back.

If you’re not good with it, don’t use it.

Seriously, it sounds like you just got needled.

Get that weapons into the hands of a skilled jetpacker and as long as their target has no close cover then you’ll take them down faster then any DMR user.

Fear the pink mist.

My beef with the needler is in the campaign enemies can’t get a super combine off of you. Campaign and firefight. You could have 10 needles sticking out of you from a needle rifle and still you won’t blow up.
