with the return of the Br, Carbine, and the DMR. Should a revised version of the Needle Rifle return along side the Carbine to counter the DMR?
In my opinion, the NR should return with a design more along the lines of the DMR, perhaps a six shot kill, a 2.5x scope, and the original 18 round magazin in the Reach beta. It could be more accurate than the Carbine but have a slightly slower rate of fire than the carbine, but still slightly faster than the DMR. and, of course, the ability to cause a super combine explosion with 3 needles.
Me personally? I’d like the NR to never leave Reach. I was never big on it. I always wondered why they didn’t bring back/modify the carbine for Reach. But now that we know the carbine is back it makes the NR seem redundant.
It’s a pretty neat weapon, but since we already have the BR, DMR and Carbine, doing one more rifle just seems kind of overkill to me. So I’m going to have to go with no here, leave it in Reach where it has a place.
I absolutely love the Needle Rifle’s design, it would be a great shame if it didn’t return in Halo 4. I mean, we have both the BR and DMR that have different roles, right? We could have the Needle Rifle and the Carbine in the game as well that act differently. The Needle Rifle could be the more medium ranged weapon and the Carbine could b long range.
No it doesn’t need to return. The Carbine was much more useful.
I wouldn’t have had a problem with the NR, in fact i liked the weapon. Except that it was took too long to drop the shields and it’s scope was inferior to the DMRs. Which had better range and kill times.
Well, logically it wouldn’t return unless it’s upgraded?
The Covenant Carbine is either its upgrade or replacement, since Reach happened before the Halo trilogy, and this is a new trilogy after the first trilogy.
Anyhow, it’s a cool weapon and I’d like to see it again.

technically, the covenant don’t upgrade their weapons, they imitate forerunner tech. Therefore, the NR is a completely different weapon than the Carbine. The reason that the NR might not have been seen in other games because it wasn’t used during those conflicts or perhaps was used, it was just in engagements that the player wasn’t present. And during Halo: Glasslands, the Needle rifle was present. As well, the Elites were getting weapons from ONI, they could have received needle rifles as part of these shipments.
