The Nades Will Block Out the Sun!!!

Grenades are at an all time ridiculous high in Halo 5 matchmaking.

This is not an opinion, this is a fact.

I’m not here to whine about it, I’m here to collect feedback and suggest alternatives.

I wouldn’t say grenade damage or blast radius is the issue, because these both seem fair. Grenades are generally not single hit kills, they are tools used to drop the shields of an enemy spartan before getting that sweet headshot, a technique much loved in Halo since 2004. However, the amount of grenades and the rate at which they are spammed across the maps definitely seems like an issue in arena modes. I can’t be the only one noticing this, but it seems like most fights open up with a multi-grenade spam from both sides, I have taken to counting the number of grenades thrown at chokepoints over the course of spartan battles, and most fights see 4-6 grenades being thrown in rapid succession. This creates a very weird flow to the game, a lot of hunkering down and avoiding aggressive action simply to avoid the arm-thrown artillery of the other team… not to mention all the team kills that go on from players unwittingly chucking 4 or more grenades into their teammates.

I’m hoping 343 addresses this sooner rather than later, with a simple fix such as players dropping less grenades upon death, increased spawn time for pickup grenades or even fewer grenades after the first spawn.

I can’t be the only one who chuckles a little bit while watching 8 frag grenades bounce into a room and decimate a whole team. Halo should focus primarily on gunplay and character movement, grenades should be a tactical option, not something that becomes one of the primary methods of grabbing spartan kills.

I have noticed the spam. Maybe because they’re so easily accessible?

That’s what I think is the main problem. With 2 grenades per spawn + usually 2 per kill + pickup grenades on map that spawn very often, it’s like we have our own personal artillery division blasting the map all game long.

I’m really digging the MP so far but this has become something of a running joke with the squad I play with, we have started counting how many grenades are thrown consecutively and the amount of times we have broken 8+ is just staggering hahaha

They’re too easy to use. They bounce too far and have a pretty large blast radius. I’m having flashbacks of the Halo: Reach beta grenades. Even if they just made them not bounce as far it would be a significant improvement since players would have to be more accurate.

In my first 10 rounds or so i would say at least a 1/4 of my kills are nades. Any time i am about to lose a fight i stop shooting and toss both nades. working well for me but i can see where it would get annoying.

While I agree that the grenades are very…excessive… I do think that the reason they are so deadly is to stagger down the speed of the Multiplayer going on now. Movement is so much faster and the grenades have to keep up with this increase. I mean, thrusts and base movement speed means you can be on the other side of a map in a matter of seconds, given a clear path.

It seems to me, and someone suggested this, is that they shouldn’t bounce as much. I think that may give players some relief.

Until I read this post I hadn’t really thought about it much, but there does seem to be grenades constantly flying in arena. I’d like to see them decrease the spawn rate and drop rate in a future update. That would make players think more tactically about when they should throw nades. At the moment I throw at least 1 before every engagement since I’ll get at least 2 more whether I win or lose the fight.

I’ve definitely noticed the bounces are way too generous, like the grenades are made of elastic. Deadly, painful elastic.

I agree with J Dog with the grenade spams going on in multiplayer.

Maybe make it where we only spawn with one grenade. Also make the respawn times longer. Same goes for power weapons, make them spawn less frequently
