The mystery and myths of Spartans being destroyed

Sadly I do not have as much time as I would like to write my thoughts down, so it might be a bit short, however I am always up to expand on it later.
So, this week we got our first glimpse at some elements of Halo 5. Personally, I am still playing Halo:CE but I did get a peek at the cinematics related to Halo 5 that are in H2A. We also got to see the beta of Halo 5’s MP which I am very excited for. My intention is not to go into the details of the MP reveal, but there are some nuances inside that I want to discuss.
Ok so, straight up. I believe that the Spartan IVs are a discredit to the entire myth of the spartans. Sadly, from what I have seen of Halo 5, this trend is most likely to continue.

So, why don’t I like the Spartan IVs? I don’t like their attitude. I really didn’t want to use this term, but I will anyway. I find them to be very dudebroish. Now, I know that not all the Spartan IVs might be like that, but the ones that we have seen so far have always given me that vibe. I felt nothing but dislike for Palmer and I was more ambiguous towards the rest of the Spartan crew featued in Spartan Ops.
Now, enter Halo 5. While I like the idea of training simulations, the constant chatter and the poses (my god… high fives and cheers…) seem to further emphasize this dudebro mentality. It’s a direction that I personally dislike. I like the idea of having the spartans communicating… but the way that it’s portrayed gives me COD vibe, which is appropriate for that game but not for spartans. Marines and to some extent ODSTs displaying this kind of behavior is something that I actually appreciated, but it just feels wrong for it to be extended to spartans. The chief had a very commanding presence, barely speaking if not needed to, but his actions spoke very well that he cared for his comrades. His words held power and to me the chief is the embodiment of what a spartan should be. I liked the fact that the spartans might come across as machines to humanity, however them being broken or very vulnerable is an interesting trait. On the one hand their demeanor and attitude might make them seem like machines, while they are also very much humans.
Now a small spoiler for Halo 5:

Based on what I have seen from Agent Locke, I am afraid that he might be very much like the Spartan IVs. It might be due to his voice acting… but he seems very cocky and not how you would expect the most elite of humanity’s soldiers to act. Especially when you consider that he’s talking to the Arbiter.

If he turns out to be another Palmer, the campaign might be difficult for me to go through. Sure, right now it’s hard to determine how his character will develop but the first impressions and vibe that I get from him are not all that good.

I feel like 343 is trying to make spartans more human, I believe that how they are trying to do it with chief is the right way to go. However, the dudebro mentality that seems to surface with the Spartan IVs is the complete opposite in my own opinion.

Kinda hate to break it to you but this is most likely because Spartan IV’s are not true Spartans in the Sense that II’s and III’s are basically Spartan IV are just normal people with Spartan Armour this is probably why they act as they do.

In a way, its kinda what 343 are going for.

The Halo 4 prologue kinda hints at it, asking if the Chief’s effectiveness was due to him being broken on a human level.

Then you’ve got the Spartan-IVs who appear less effective.

Humanity vs efficiency and all that,

I do quite like Thorne. He doesn’t seem dudebroish.

Still characters like Captain Keys were all business and he wasn’t even Spartan so hopefully there wil be more leaders rising through the Spartan ranks

Yeah, I think they went for that vive on purpose. It’s like the old generation going, look at all these pathetic children. Master chief is like in his late 50s to early 60s and he’s a total badass killing machine. But you look at the spartan IVs and they are a bunch of cocky noobs. That’s just how they’ve portrayed them, they aren’t super soldiers, they’re you, and you aren’t as cold as chief. Besides, wouldn’t you gloat over a win like those guys in the end? I like the little gloat thing at the end personally.

You just blew my mind, sir.

Again with the CoD comparisons. I must ask, if you like the idea of the Spartans communicating, then what do you expect them to communicate about? Just because they call out tactical information doesn’t make it CoD, it just makes them soldiers.

The amount of CoD comparisons is starting to get ridiculous. Not everything you may not like is CoD people.

Also should be noted that Spartan IV’s are Marines and ODST given super strength and power armor. That they act like Marines and ODSTs is the entire point, to differentiate between them and the “true” Spartans like John. This is even discussed in Spartan Ops.
