The music of Halo 4. Overall it didn’t really work. The music itself sounds completely amateur. The recording feels like it is lacking a lot. I would dare to say that the sound technician who recorded all the audio should take some more lessons on audio recording. There was no depth to the music, it all felt like it was far off in the background. Nothing felt surfaced. All the music in the game and on the soundtrack sounded like this. It had no low ends, it was missing flow with the game. I didn’t like it at all. Which is a pity, I love soundtracks, especially good video game soundtracks. One of the best was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s soundtrack by Hans Zimmer (I however do not like the Call of Duty Franchise at all). First off, Hans Zimmer is amazing and has made some of the most beautiful and just overall amazing soundtracks ever written. Secondly, the music had a flow with the game, it was as much of a character as the rest of the game was, and it had depth, emotion, and was very present in the game. You said that Requiem was to be main character in the story of Halo, I would have liked it better if the music was more of a character. I can’t tell you if changing the audio engineer is enough to make the music better, or if you simply may need to not use Neil Davidge again. Another thing with the music was that it was hard to hear. It felt like background noise, not like music. It was more annoying at that volume then anything because you couldn’t make out what you were hearing all of time and other times it was interfering with the voice of characters. I would like to have seen some better music for the game, music can make or break the movie or the game. Please highly consider this.
Also I would like controls for the music, voice and effects volume controls. At some points in the game you couldn’t hear the characters talk or you couldn’t hear the music.
Also add some bass. Again Im not a Call of Duty fan but in Black Ops 2 the guns have some oomph to them, and it sounded so good. Add some bass into the game, if your afraid it will not sound good on non subwoofer television, then add a setting to allow people to use the bass.

I stopped there. The music was far from amateur, it added a cinematic scope to the universe the past games never had, while retaining (or bringing back) the ancient mystery feeling Halo used to have, all encompassed by a sweeping heroic epic in the theme, 117. It did exactly what it was supposed to do, and captured the tones of Halo 4 perfectly.
It’s implementation on the other hand wasn’t very good, but for what it’s worth, the actual music was stellar.
I really like the OST1 & OST2 even more, I’m still listening to more than half a dozen tracks from those. Regarding the campaign in game music I found the mixing levels off, I wish there was 3 volume sliders for game effects, music & dialogue.
Overall the implementation in the campaign in game for the music was weak. However in the CGI or OST the music was fantastic! I think for the in game music they really wanted to punch up the game effects like weapons and explosions more than the music, I personally think that was a misstep.

> That’s my take on Halo 4 music anyhow.
You can always override the in-game music, just go to your music library in the Xbox guide. But yes, sound customization should be added. Halo PC and Halo Anniversary are the only games that have had settings pertaining to music. That should not be so.
And that is why emphasizing sound in the settings is a must. I personally prefer the louder gameplay, but I definitely do want to listen to music from time to time.
Even still, there was no bass, no low ends or anything. The soundtrack needed more high and low ends, not just the middle. As for the in-game sound effects, again no bass, you need to oomph it up a little. That isn’t just about bass I know, but that is a large part of it.

> Yes, I love that song. But its NOT from Halo 4. Its from the Halo 3 Soundtrack, which is the best soundtrack to all the games.

Most of the music felt like it didn’t belong in Halo, it just didn’t have the right feel and vibe that past soundtracks have offered. It was good music, but it didn’t belong in Halo. The soundtracks that did feel like they were Halo music, were really good though.
The lack of Monks and guitar also really annoyed me. They replaced the epic orchestral battle music and guitar riffs that used to be in Halo trailers with Dubstep and electronic Halo music adaptions. That is really inexcusable.

OP is right. The music was bland anime style sounds. The first load up was pretty painful having to listen to that dying lady squeal over the H4 loading menu.
I have never enjoyed a games menu music more than the Halo series but H4 sound overall is super meh.

Last time I checked, the game was still called Halo, and I expected that familiar feeling from this game’s soundtrack that past games had to offer. What I was left with, was a generic sci-fi soundtrack which most songs lacked variety on.

Does it now? It’s not an entirely different game, it’s still Halo and should still retain the musical themes of Halo. The start of a new trilogy/saga is not an excuse to change anything and everything they feel like.
It seems like you’re just mindlessly trying to defend 343’s decisions, despite the fact that some of them are very questionable and poor decisions that have not been received well by most of the community.

No, it really wasn’t. But I don’t agree that it was terrible, it wasn’t that great and either it or Reach had the worst soundtrack, but I wouldn’t say it was terrible, but yeah it really wasn’t that great buddy, sorry but you’re wrong
