The multiplayer should not be the focus of this game.

I really don’t understand why everyone seems so obsessed with Halo 4 having “Balanced” multiplayer. Halo games have great stories but also have the potential for even better ones if some focus is taken away from the multiplayer. The ranking system will never be perfect, so why not just make do because to be honest, it doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t need to be super “balanced”. They are called power weapons for a reason, the sword is fine as it is and nothing needs to be nerfed. You’ll find a slightly unbalanced but fun game will be much better than a game where everything is equal.

If we contribute more to what we want to see in the campaign and maybe even forge, we can get a game that for once everyone can appreciate. An amazing campaign, fun multiplayer and a bunch of extras including a map editor is basically the definition of “Amazing game”

Disagree if you want, but Halo is about the story, and it’s high time this community realised it.

Discuss etc etc just KEEP IT CLEAN

Multiplayer was never the primary focus of Halo games. But that doesnt mean they cant have a balanced, fair, and fun multiplayer matchmaking component.

Most people’s game time will be spent in firefight, matchmaking or forge. Not campaign. Of course it deserves focus but I doubt there are many people that will spend the majority of their game time playing campaign (I’m just waiting for around 10 people to all post they never play matchmaking and solely play campaign now).

> but Halo is about the story

I disagree, story is a part of Halo, it isn’t about the story.

Campaign and Multiplayer needs the same amount of attention to be the best they possibly can be.

This.

Thats why its called Halo, you know, the ring world IN THE STORY. Its all about the story, MM may be important but without story there is no Halo.

I think it is, all the books, graphic novels and cartoons build upon it, but without a solid foundation within the game, it can amount to nothing.

Why do you think Halo CE is considered by many as the best? Almost all the time was focused on the campaign and they done an incredible job.

All parts are equal. Everyone has their own preference, none of which should overshadow some other people’s preference. Halo has a lot of different aspects to it. It’s as diverse as it’s audience.

I expect the campaign to be epic!

That said, the reason everyone stresses importance about the multiplayer part of the game is because that is what will keep people playing the game and bring more people on board. I am pretty sure that you are not going to play the campaign only, so there needs to be a good multiplayer in order to keep bringing you back.

I will use Mass Effect as an example. It has a great campaign, but it gets repetitve and boring playing the same thing over and over. Because there is no multiplayer to bring you back and keep you playing, it becomes one of those games that you buy and play 2 or 3 times and then it sits there.

Although Halo 1 was focused on single player, it did have an amazing multiplayer which brought people together to play it. Ever chug your Xbox and tv over to somebody’s house just to play Halo 1 multiplayer in a giant 16-man lan party? Yeah, didn’t think so. THAT’s how good Halo 1’s multiplayer was.

Vintage91 is right, the multiplayer is definitely what keeps people coming back to play the game over and over again. Both the campaign, the multiplayer and firefight need to be epic, and with such a big and talented team, I expect them all to be as such.

I’d prefer if the Campaign got more attention from 343i. Sure, the multi-player is fun, but I buy and play Halo for it’s great campaigns (except Reach’s).

Well, from the ammount of time 343 spends putting up story related videos and making books and even putting terminals in CEA, it seems like 343 know what they’re doing with the story. Obviously the story is big enough to span 3 games.

I personally think 343 should equally focus on all consent included with Halo 4. To bring out a game’s full potential, a developer must make sure everything is great. That includes campaign, multiplayer, firefight theater and any other currently unannounced game modes.

When you go on to Halo, the last thing you want to do it play a Campaign you know and have played many times.

Multiplayer is what keeps people coming back online to Halo each day, to compete against others online, Multiplayer should get more attention that Campaign if you ask me.

Multiplayer is better

The Balance is supposed to be between the Normal weapons, and most of the Covy power weapons.

The Focus Rifle doesn’t Compete with the Sniper
The Plasma Launcher doesn’t compete with the Spartan Laser
The Sword (with block) doesn’t compete with the Shotgun

The AR doesn’t compete with the DMR
The Plasma Repeater doesn’t compete with the DMR
Even the NR doesn’t compete with the DMR (outside of TU, and only when not ZB)

Plasma Pistol vs Magnum? No competition.

Plasma Rifle/Spiker vs AR? Again no competition, AR.

I think having two separate teams, one for Campaign focusing on story, enemy, and level design. And the other for Multiplayer focusing specifically on weapon, map, physics design.

Basically, the Multiplayer crew creates the meat of the game, the way the player moves, and feels, and the way the weapons work. The Campaign guys just design an epic story, filled with sweet missions and such.

Also, if there is an enemy in Campaign who is “Spartanlike”, allow the Multiplayer team to design it first, then let the Campaign guys make a bigger/smaller/whatever version of it for campaign specifically.

I love everything that is Halo, no matter how much I slate Reach, I still have a good solid 15 days playing time, every Halo game turned my hours to minutes. What I am saying is, make everything cutting edge. We are obviously going to be kept in the dark for a while and I am prepared to hunker down and take it like a man, because I have the utmost confidence in 343i and Halo 4.

Ever since Halo 2 the main focus on nearly every Halo game has been multiplayer and I hope that they keep it that way because while it may be nice to have a good and lengthy campaign I just wouldn’t want for it to effect the work that goes into the multiplayer because it’s the mp that keeps you playing for years not the campaign.
