People for a while have discussed who the most important/influential character in Halo (John, Cortana, Halsey, Librarian ect). I think it’s pretty obvious who is arguably the single most important/influential character in the Halo Universe. It is the Primordial. He waited patiently for a way to avenge his species against their ungrateful creation. Once the Flood arrived, he knew he could use the parasite to his advantage. His words caused Humans and San’Shyuum to kill themselves, convincing them of a cure to the Flood. Simply speaking with him made Mendicant Bias turn against the Forerunners. When the IsoDidact though he’d killed him, he simply transferred himself into the Gravemind’s neural network, taking over. So, the Gravemind IS the Primordial just in a new body. He’s now using the Flood as to exact his revenge for the Precursors. The Flood was hurting the Forerunners bad, but when the Primordial took over, man it was over. He wiped the floor with the Forerunners at the end of the war so badly with his Precursor tech it was pretty embarrassing for the Forerunners. When the Array fired, he wasn’t worried as he knew eventually the Flood would break out once more and he would return to assume command. He’s extremely patient, that’s what so scary about him, having simply time. For being around for a month in 2552, he caused great horror for the rest of the galaxy. He even scared Cortana, which is very rare to do. He also drove the Ur-Didact insane much like Bias. This guy is the most important character in Halo, so much is by him. He added fuel to the fire in the war between his creation. Turning a powerful Forerunner AI against his creators, and took over of the greatest threat the galaxy has ever seen. He drove the Forerunners’ military leader mad, showing “it’s the end” for the Forerunners. He planted seeds in Cortana’s head that’s led to today. The Primordial has done so much, which makes him the overall villain and single most important character in Halo.
I’d make the argument that it’s actually the IsoDidact. I get that there’s an overarching scheme of events in the Halo universe, but I think the actions of individual heroes like Chief and Bornstellar ultimately cause the greatest impact. The fact that it’s often theorized that Chief is an imprint of the IsoDidact is telling, and so far Chief has torn apart the Covenant and contained two separate flood outbreaks.

While the IsoDidact had a massive impact, the Primordial has caused more events to occur: he drove Mendicant Bias insane, he drove the Ur-Didact insane, destroyed the greater Ark and Omega Halo, planted ideas in Cortana that has led to her mindset now. That’s just a few stuff he’s done. He just has this looming presence over the Halo Universe, and he’s gonna be returning at some point.
