The most controversial thread

Greetings,
I, like all of you would like to see a franchise like Halo prosper and thrive. Here are my thoughts for Halo 6.
Halo 5 + Reach = Halo 6
Now I now know by now almost 40% of readers have left but hear me out.
Halo reach had a great emotional story that was both likeable and relatable.
Custimization was Great.
Gamemodes were Great.
And Forge was Great.
Now imagine all that and more, Halo 5 only improved on these things ( lack lustre customization).
Halo 5 has the best forge out of every game and what game modes there is are perfected to a T.
Think about it…

With 5’s fluent movement system and features, halo 6 would get its spring back in its step.

Armo(u)r abilities weren’t all that back for those crying over invisibility and evade.
Also, For Crying Out Loud armo(u)r lock was the worst ability in the game! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve kill a spartan in amo(u)r lock by jumping over there bloody body as their invincibility ended and melee their -Yoink- for the insta kill!
It takes them 8 frames to turn around and 2-4 frames to hit or shot you, so in total it takes 10-12 frames to even act out of their lock. Just jump over them at the right time and melee.

It’s nice to hear appreciation of what H5 did well, instead of just “lol reach is better.”

I don’t think we need any more customization, it just distracts from the actual game.

Reach’s Armor Abilities were awful. Most were removed outright, while others like evade were just reworked into default abilities. None of them need to come back. I don’t care if you an “ninja assassinate armor lock users”, armor lock in itself is still a horrendous idea.

Only things Reach really did right are Style, Customization, and Game Options.

Agreed, I think all of us that spend time reading and posting on this forum would like to see the Halo franchise prosper, albeit to our own peculiar tastes.

Halo 6 has to bring back a great narrative for it to work. The lack of a narrative that fans appreciated seems to be the biggest complaint about Halo 5. My hope is that 343 has a plan of continuity with their installments; though there’s certainly backlash against how Guardians’ story played out, they should stay the course with the characters that were introduced, but further develop their stories. That includes the Spartans of Blue Team and Osiris.

My opinion is that there’s so much that can be done to add to the plot, that it’s not important for 343 to feel like everything has to be smashed into “the next episode,” i.e. Halo 6. According to what’s been reported, 343 has an idea of where Chief’s story comes to an end, and where the Halo universe moves forward from there. It doesn’t have to come to us all in a single game. My wish list for the next installment of Halo:

  • Bring back Locke and Fire Team Osiris - a good thing began in Halo 5 with their introduction and it must continue. I was more than happy to play Halo with new Spartan characters. Halo can’t live or die with the Master Chief. To me, Halo is about the honor and glory of being a Spartan, not just one Spartan. Being fans of the franchise, we all should be able to appreciate this perspective. - Continue to develop Master Chief’s character - During the events of Halo 4, Chief broke out of his armor to become a more dynamic character. In Halo 5, we saw a somewhat rigid, even angry Master Chief–and that’s awesome! I just would like to know more about why he is the way he is (and telling me that he’s a Spartan II doesn’t suffice as an answer). Halo 6 does need to show a lot more emotion to the narrative, especially on the Chief’s end. - Continue to develop the Halsey vs Cortana arc - those two and Master Chief form a love triangle with Chief at the top and Halsey and Cortana at base opposing each other. For all the criticism of Halo 5’s plot, 343 introduced many elements that can develop into important arcs within the story. This is obviously one of them, but there are a ton of parallels and mysteries that can be explored. The key to exploring them is by not caving to the pressure of getting everything packed into one game. There’s too great of a story to tell. - Reintroduce the Flood - this seems imminent as the very reason for the Halos’ construction was to destroy them. At the close of Halo 5, the ominous humming or Cortana and the visual of a Halo is a pretty good indicator that they’ll be back. Where there’s a Halo, there’s also the flood. Shotguns ready? - Destroy the Covenant once and for all - this also seems to be in the works based on the events of Halo 5. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m tired of shooting grunts. There has to be a better reason to be at war with other organics at this point in the narrative. Maybe the next installment will have us allied to stop the Flood and the Created.

Okay in terms of forge, yeah go ahead for a reach like system but gameplay, can we please have the H2 style back?

halo 2 br is coming. grab a lockout remake. grab some freinds. turn off everything clamber etc. and make it br starts with the new br. and bam you got halo 2 classic gameplay right there

If Halo 6 is inspired by Halo Reach that would be very good in many ways. My opinion Halo Reaches graphic design and armor looked very well done and realistic. Halo reach had great forge which in turn allowed great custom games. Game types were in my opinion very well done in Halo Reach and using Halo Reach as ideas for game types would be smart. Halo Reach did have a sorta darker campaign, if Halo 6 used that I believe it would work out very well, because in Halo 5 I was not connected or immersed into its campaign at all.

If they aren’t going to have chief as the main character I’d rather be able to create my own. Something similar to Reach, but with the ability to choose between a few voice actors/actresses like Saint’s Row. Maybe with the ability to custom paint the armor?

Other than that your ideas are pretty much spot on.

Oh and we should definitely fight a guardian (A single guardian) in the next game.

Fighting a guardian sounds like a great idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if that made it into Halo 6.

I like playing as the Chief, but there’s something about the Spartan IVs that resonates with me a bit more. Another user on the forum wrote something to the extent of favoring the Spartan IVs, because they represent the point in history when humanity “took over” as militarily and technologically superior to the Covenant. I also have to say that a great solo campaign can better connect you with the character. During Halo 4, I loved Chief’s character as he was somewhat of the underdog/outcast on Del Rio’s infinity. I also loved how he took control of the situation to do what he’s been trained to do since childhood, “protect humanity at all costs.”

In Halo 5, I enjoyed Locke’s character because he represented everything new and progressive in the Halo universe. It also begs the question to be asked (and hopefully answered within the narrative), how does Chief, Halsey, and even Cortana reconcile all that was done to the Spartan IIs “for the greater good” as he stands face to face with Locke, who for all intents and purposes is his equal?

Reach and Halo 5 combined would be great. I’m sure every one liked at least something from Reach.

Sorry, my apologies.
Saw a rage thread on armour abilities and I got a little out of line…
Other than that I would like to see a customizable Spartan return in the campaign because I felt it was creative way to to bond and relate to your Spartan and it was also a nice way to incorporate your own story and tie it to your Spartan ( I Love Lore ).
I would like to share my thoughts on a possible story ark I saw early on,
How I see Halo’s story while evolve is through the destruction of the covenet in Halo 6, then maybe civilization collapsing on itself in Halo 7.
Plus there is nothing more poetic then ending the franchise on Bungiee’s favourite number.

Armor abilities should definitely come back for Forge only though,. Even if we don’t get playable elites, we can bring back Dino Blasters. Infinite action sack opportunities with armor abilities.

Reach + 5 customisation would be amazing.

Nope how about taking Halo back to its true roots when it was at it’s peak and see how it does? All these armor gimmicks clearly aren’t holding a healthy population… why keep going in this direction if players aren’t sticking around to play? How about a game more like H2A? Use that as a jumping off point for H6?

To make Halo 6 good, you need the story of CE, the mechanics of 2, customization and Forge of Reach (but the unlock system of 3). Absolutely nothing from Halo 5 should be in Halo 6.
